Personally, I can't recommend 8bitdo more. Super high quality and cheaper than the official controllers.

I'm using the SN30 Pro+ wireless for games like Zelda on Switch or some of my older retro games. I don't like the battery it included, as it has a bit short battery life because of some weird charging error with the software. Thankfully, having the ability to use rechargeable AAA batteries is just brilliant. Much longer battery life, and I don't have to be scared of low battery life because I'll just feed it new batteries while others are charging. Can't go wrong with that.

I have an 8BitDo Pro 2 and its fantastic. Nice and weighty without being too much, comes with a rechargeable battery pack thats replaceable without tools. It has a toggle switch to change between Nintendo and Xbox/Windows layouts, two other settings there for apparently Apple and Android. Connects perfectly over Bluetooth or wired. Ive had it over a year I think and its been great with no signs of wear yet.

From about 2014 to last year I was using a Sony DS4 as my main controller, used to be you had to use 3rd party software like DS4 to trick Windows into thinking it was an Xbox controller, but for the last few years it just worked natively for most games I wanted to play with it.

I also have a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller which Steam seems to recognize just fine, but I hardly ever use it on PC. Its a pretty solidly built thing had it a few years and works fine unlike the Joycons. Ive had about 3 sets of those and all of them started to get stick drift after a year or two. Awful hardware.

and should be getting an Xbox wireless adapter for PC sometime this week so I might actually use it again

Controllers for PC are few and far between. I know i had a flight stick about 25(0) years ago but I don't think I ever got much use out of it.

I'm a OEM snob, I just need that original feel... I use the Bliss-Box USB adapter, and all of my original work on it.

on a semi related front, the founder of 8bitdo also has a console company under another name:

not surprisingly the controllers work on the consoles.
Guess if you making a console that uses hardware emulation to play Nintendo cartridges, you need controllers as well.

The Microsoft Sidewinder? I got one myself and I believe I only used it once with the game following the Flightstick/Joystick.

its 20 years ago, I don't recall what it was but I did have a short look in garage earlier as if it is anywhere still, its out there. Probably thrown away by now.

The portable N64 they are making had me wondering if I had any old cartridges still

got the adapter today - the wrapping was excessive, three layers before I got to a box that was literally just holding a USB stick... could have been way smaller. And easier to unwrap.

Controller needed a firmware update, I wonder when I last used it was... October 23 looks about last time.


Had to turn off power management for the adapter in device manager as it was causing the rest of my USB drives to disconnect when it slept on the hub - then i thought... just give it its own USB slot on PC so I did.

I like all the extra parts I have to adjust it with, I had forgotten it didn't come equipped with the + controller - the original button was a circle. Easy to swap since they just magnets.

I don't know if I swapped the other joysticks.
the brick at rear is actually for wireless charging as you plug a USB cable in back of it... I had forgotten that part.

Guess I am one less excuse away from playing a game now.
