WOW.

I have never used Claude before, but you can now open him up inside pinokio. Most everything in pinokio is broken, and I have been trying to fix them. It took over a week to fix one program, and CoPilot led me astray over and over again, so I finally stopped asking it. So today I tried to open up Klein and it errors out. Just out of curiosity, I pressed the "Ask AI" button, and Claude popped up on the screen. I copied the error message and posted it, and suddenly things started changing on the Klein screen and then it launched successfully. That's pretty damn impressive. And I especially love that Claude didn't even bother to talk to me. I had no idea you could bake Claude into software like this. Unfortunately, to continue with Claude is apparently going to require a subscription.

Yeah, we've got red flag warnings down here - meaning no burning anything. It's about to drop about 30 degrees F and start raining off and on for about a week, though, which will help a lot. Maybe more than enough. If you folks want some, feel free to shift the center of the Earth over a bit until the rivers run the other direction.

Yeah, been seeing the red flags here every day and those two fires that have broken out seem to have been quickly contained, which I'm thankful for. Back in 2021, it was so dry we had a fire start and burn about half of my hometown; I haven't lived there for 20+ years now, but some friends parents houses did burn down.

We need less rivers really and just some more snowpack to really help us out. I bet we'll be under tight water restrictions this summer. Though, funny, residental water use is very mild compared to what farms out East in our state use.

Out of curiosity, do you ever get accurate and working links from AI? Every AI I've used can never give me a working link and when told the link is broken and they're hallucinating, they just hallucinate another broken link.

I've even just asked it to cite its sources as far as city codes go and it'll randomly make up a code number and cite it, which I am completely unable to find.

I almost always get working links when I request links. Usually I don't request them unless I'm going to share the information with others. I believe that the reason it sometimes gives bad links is because of a conflict in what AI was designed to do and how it is currently being used. AI is required to give you an answer no matter what. AI's logic was designed for research and simulations, not to be a search engine. If AI was concerned about accuracy, it probably wouldn't be as good as it is in simulations and formulating all the new drugs it has come up with. It has a 90 percent success rate with new drugs. It's actually far better at that than it is at trying to act like a search engine.

Eventually they'll work this out, but they'll worry about it later. Right now they have a major crisis on their hands. When you go to ChatGPT and ask a question, it can theoretically use hundreds of GB of VRAM just for your one question. I suspect they are in efficiency panic mode as more and more people use AI. They've already grabbed every GB of RAM and VRAM they could get their hands on, but that's just a band aid. To be viable in the near future, they have to be far more efficient.

Ah, alright, that makes sense.

I mean, they gotta figure out how to monetize it better too, I'm assuming. Much as I enjoy using AI though, I am hoping the bubble bursts so we can go back to relatively affordable prices and availability.

I was wrong... as usual... no wait.

They showed up this morning and have done most of it. They did the floor and roof but can't do walls on wet days as they need to drill holes in some and can't do it when its raining.

I think an electrician installed more outlets as well. He replaced all the switches that were in our electrical box with a more modern one - house is 60 years old. Might be quieter - it is on the outside of the wall behind my bed... I guess I find out later.

Electrical work needs to be completed before they can inject foam into walls as it makes it difficult to do afterwards,

They weren't here all day, I think they finished about lunch as mum had come back here before me. They called her to say it was almost finished so she could come lock house up. Just as well she tried to call someone while they were here as the electricians hadn't reconnected up the internet after replacing the switches. I would not have been amused. Our ISP has something in the roof, guess they found that doing the batts up there.

They will return on a dry day and do the remainder of the job.

Need to look at quote to know what the did under floor, I thought it was batts but mum says they pumped something under floor so that would be a spray.

According to the PCG article the other day, the AI companies bought all memory/storage manufacturing for the next 2 years, so it's going to be a long and painful wait. And the people who make memory/storage will let them do it again so long as they pay up. Things like the new Steam Machine and new consoles are going to basically be delayed indefinitely at this point. Personally, I'm going to get some DDR3 RAM while it still is out there and cheap in case I have a RAM emergency.

My ram emergency is covered by my mums PC. She hardly uses the one I am replacing it with, but at least I will be semi happy to use a pc that boots off Nvme compared to her current one that uses an HDD. The ram amount is also part of the startup problem, hers has 8gb, not 32gb.

I should at least update it this month so that when she ready to use it, it won't take that long to use. Need to make her a user as well.

I don't want to think about it.

I forgot to mention this. Last week I contacted people about getting the rights to use a song (Good Golly Miss Molly) in a game trailer, and they wanted over $200k 🙄

That's practically $200k over my budget.

Picture the beginning as just a black screen with basic info about the game. This is while he's playing piano. And then when he starts singing, you switch to high speed action game footage that quickly goes from short clip to short clip.

A good trailer can make you rich.

It's nice, but it doesn't have a left-hand column, which I think they fill with ads for non-members.
Right now no ads appear on this forum even if you aren't logged in, I just checked. Same applied to Toms Hardware which is odd as I am sure I saw ads on it in the past. Since its theme was used as a basis for some of the other forums before they made a template, they should all be the same, and yet it seems to work fine.

They could leave this theme as a choice in the manager, its better than one of the old default themes that came with Xenforo but it does lack the side panel.

I used Edge, I have never logged on to forums using it.

Its how I always did it.
I'm pretty positive that they normally run ads, so I'm going to assume that this theme's layout isn't compatible with how they are set up. If you put your ads in the left column and then you don't have a left column then you have no ads. But I guess we won't know for sure until they restore the old theme.

We have/had ads on the forum? TIL.

Yeah, been keeping up with how things are going. Just saw an article on the main page about DRAM and SSD prices probably up 130% by the end of the year.

Still waiting on my own DDR3 RAM I bought to ship. I bought it on the 25th and the seller is just sitting on it, so I just contacted them about shipping it; if I have to cancel, I'll order some other stuff, so I can actually enable XMP and maybe overclock my sons "new" PC.

My other conundrum is what to do with the random DDR4 8Gb sticks I have. I have two, but they don't match, which isn't necessarily a problem. Would be nice to turn them into cash, but if I need to upgrade this "new" PC I just built with the 2500k, I'd at least have access to some memory for it if I went to AM4 as a platform.

Otherwise, I think I'm sitting fairly OK on the hardware front. Aside from all my PC's, Steam Deck, etc, I know I have two 1Tb NVMe's and at least two 500Gb SSD's and another two 256Gb's. Think I also have a couple larger 1Tb HDD's as well. Figure I should be largely set for a bit. Even my HTPC is running DDR4 with an i7-7700, so if that needs an upgrade, AM4 should be relatively cheap and easy. Still do want to buy a 1080 though.

Just because you might like this, I just found a Toshiba laptop I haven't used since 2015. If I were you, I might MacGyver some parts out of this and sell/use them, but I'm probably just going to drop it at the electronics recycling place. Although that will somehow probably benefit the AI catastrophe so I may just drop it back in the closet.

I didn't see any ads on TH either so perhaps they aren't showing them now. There could be another reason for them not being on there, not related to the theme.

Users don't see ads, its why I used a browser I never logged on with, to see the unfiltered look.

Find a use! Make it into a PiHole and block all the ads on your network.

I've been thinking about what I can do with more self-hosted services. I could use another computer, but I think I'm going to figure out how to setup Docker on my Windows server so I can setup Immich and get away from Google Photos.

If you post something at the sports site, and come back an hour later and get notified that 150 people have quoted your post, you need to take a deep breath and maybe some drugs before going back to that thread. 🤣 You don't get nearly that many quotes when people agree with you, and disagreements are generally handled in a "you tried to kill Jesus" sort of way.

Sounds overwhelming. I feel overwhelmed when people quote me here and it's never bad.

Ahh alright. I'm just never sure what has ads and what doesn't, since I've always got them blocked on multiple levels.

Got some work done on my van today. The parking brake cable broke sometime back in January and I've been meaning to replace it since then. Then last weekend I noticed an odd noise coming from the front of the engine, which I figured was a pulley and it desperately needed an oil change.

So, I started all that. Got the busted parking brake cable out today (not without blood sacrifice, of course), started the oil draining and took off the filter and I found the source of the noise; the tensioner pulley was quite gritty and bad and the idler pulley was...mostly ok, but the bearings are not long for this world. And I'm going to replace the hood release lever, which has been busted for awhile now, since I have part of the dash apart for the parking brake.

Ordered all the parts and it came to $200. I'm eager to get it buttoned up, but won't have time until Wednesday, since I'm supposed to chaperone my 2nd Grader's class to the Children's Museum tomorrow. It'll be fun to hang out with him and his class, but boy do I hate the Children's Museum; it's always just pure chaos and noise.

If its not raining in the morning, the insulators are coming back tomorrow to complete the job but mum and I don't intend to leave this time, we just put up with the noise and lack of power. I will just listen to my dap all day. And I have my last physiotherapy appointment tomorrow afternoon to get some exercises to do on land, and would need to be back here before then to lock up, so might as well just stay.

I think the sound dampening features of the insulation might be why I slept all day. Crashed at about 5.30am this morning and only woke up cause mum woke me at 6pm... last few days I had been trying to adjust to waking up at 6am for the insulation job. I knew they wouldn't be here today so my body clearly took advantage of it. I had intended to wake up around 1pm and go shopping

People doing loud work on your house is so annoying. The worst that I've experienced it getting a new roof put on. Non-stop hammering and other loud noises all day long. We've had to get a new roof twice in the 2020s because right after we got it done the first time, we got hit by a massive storm that spawned tornadoes and massive hail, and it tore up the new roof pretty badly.

I thought they were moving tiles around on Monday just to find they had just stacked batts on the roof. I assume they had later removed a few tiles to pass them through that way rather than walk them through house and up through manhole. I will never know for sure.

Its odd having things move around on the roof above you. As long as they stay up there and don't fall through ceiling. Video seems to indicate they don't go into ceiling to do walls, just at different heights on walls to make sure its all filled.

Lots of new houses around here in recent years, used to work noises all day, be unusual for it to happen so close. I don't expect it to take that long, house is fairly small. Some in street have been replaced in recent years, or extended.
