The "sad" story of how I lost my best friend:

So I was visiting my best friend for a few brewskies. Had not seen him since he moved into his wife's new house.. So, there we were, sitting on his wife's porch, looking at the 2-by-2 mahogany pink chihuahua doghouse and his wife's hand-painted pink picket fence...

I told him I was getting a new game this weekend and was going to nolife it hard! He then put his hand on my shoulder and looked me deep into my eyes and with a warm smile he told me: No, you are going to yeslife it.

I downed the lukewarm pisswater Budweiser and never looked back.

Thank you for reading my "sad" story and I wish you all a pleasant Tuesday:grinning:

thanks Google for changing the 1st choice in Search to AI Mode and forcing me to retrain myself to click the 2nd choice.

There is an upside, now All seems to be mostly real responses and I can ignore the AI replies completely

I sent Zed a friend request, at least he might recognise my avatar. See what happens.

7D2D.......

Spoke to soon when I said 34 days and no deaths. Found a treasure map to a place not far from the Rekt trader. Struggled to find the chest underground but kept looking. Had a small hole at the top (1x2 square going down) and probably about 10 x3 squares opened up underground, looking for the chest.

By the time I heard the Zombie train it was too late. Ended up trapped in that "hole" with about 14 Zombies of which most of them was bikers and Fat mammas.

Needless to say, I died down there. So now 36 days, 1 death........and counting

Well damn. Found out today that my dog probably has cancer. We could get $1000 worth of tests to confirm that, but the evidence is pretty obvious and something my wife and I have been thinking about over the last few days noticing his pretty dramatic weight loss. He's only 10 and I was hoping for around 14 out of him. Anyway, pretty broken-up about it. Maybe just because he's my own, but definitely the best dog I've ever known.

Only plan at this point is to make him comfortable. Give him extra food and treats, walks and throwing the ball so he can enjoy life as much as possible until he can't.

Sad day indeed. The doc give an indication of how long he has left?

Not something anyone wants to hear.

Something to consider is to get a puppy and let him teach the puppy his ways. Not a replacement, but a new addition to the family and trained by someone who has been part of your family for many years.

Yes, now you can have the dog biscuits, and he can have the Oreo's with milk.

Finally getting to see the light a bit. Not sure if it has the same name where you guys are from, but we call it "Matric farewell" here. It's the last party of you high school days before going into the big world.

Most Matric farewells are in October few earlier but not much of them later since the will be writing their finals from early November. In short, I have two more bookings and then the first thing I am doing is get a weeks' worth of sleep. Had enough of it now, will try again next year around October.

Pretty much the same thing on repeat just different venues and different artists. Like doing a tour and using different artists to perform at each stop.

That sucks

The last dog I had was when I was 11 so I can't really remember her. Dogs could escape from out backyard too easy so it never occurred to me to get another one.

I had fish, I don't know how many of those died in the time I had them (really, all of them have now) so it didn't pay to get attached to them, but the memory of some of them still stings now if I think about it.

Zed needed a break, so he be back when he wants to. Free world.

I'm sorry to hear that.

We had a bit of a scare with our dog a few months back when we noticed a lump just under his ribcage, but the vet took a sample and said it's just a fat deposit.

Not a gaming question (So no thread to be created), but it is PC (software) related.

Ever since about windows 10, I was able to have a browser window open and a program, When I move the Cursor to the Browser window (Without clicking on the window) I was able to scroll up and down in the window by just hovering over it.

ABout a week or two before I upgraded to 25h2, this stopped happening and now need to select the browser window before I can scroll in it.

Is there a setting somewhere (Say maybe in the mouse settings or somewhere that I can switch on to get this back?

I do a lot of windows at a time especially when working, and of those my browser is almost always one of them that I need to scroll up and or down in constantly.

Exactly that!. Just saved me a lot of grey hairs. Have no idea how it switched of previously but working again.

Thank you

I've been trying to update Win11 to 25H2 and having no luck. It downloads, gets to about 27% installed, and suddenly zips up to 100% and says it failed. There's a Microsoft Learn topic where quite a few folks are having the same issue. Hopefully it's something Microsoft can find and fix.
have you tried making an installer on USB, and running setup from inside File exploder to update the install from the USB? That is how I normally get them unless it shows up for me on Windows Update.

That could possibly fix it if the problem their servers.

I spent 90 minutes today trying to work out why my speakers weren't working just to find they turned down to zero. That will do it but not sure how they got there. I fairly sure I didn't do it last night.

My mum asks me: How much would it cost to upgrade her pc to use windows 11. Answer: She needs a new PC.
She remembered soon after that I wanted her to use my old one.

Size of my case is a concern but not sure its worth buying a new case and swapping all the parts in. It could be a little smaller, but the CPU doesn't have an igpu so I would have to have a card of some sort. The 2070 Super isn't that big really.
Easier for her to rearrange room and just make space for my current case. Cheaper too.

Or just buy a laptop but that is what MS wants you to do, buy a new PC with a new copy of windows, they don't make money letting you stay on win 10. Its their 5 yearly sales opportunity. But I would prefer not to have to explain a co pilot laptop to her... I don't want to know about that.

Linux sharks are also hoping people swap to the dark side but every 5 years they don't get their dreams... maybe now it might work only as more people knew Linux from using Android. Perhaps they will win... shame about 500 different versions of Linux so no one team actually wins.

Wanted to share my energy saving tip when drying clothes (if you can't take them outside when sunny/windy or dry freeze):

I turn on the bathroom fan, then I place another table fan so it points upwards at an angle towards my wet clothes from the bathroom floor. Then I either have a small gap in the bathroom window and door to faster remove moisture. I also don't hang the clothes too close together so that air easier push through them. I also recommend using a drying rack that is tall and you can build the clothes in a vertical tower, because then the clothes will not be as much in the way of each other and you'll dry much faster since air pushes better through/around them.

This method is not only waaaaaay more power efficient than something like a washing machine dryer, but it also dry them in half a day or so, depending on how many clothes you put up. Super efficient and super cheap, so you can thank me later when you see the monthly power bill :D

Mine did not show up in updates anywhere then went via the windows assistant route. Might be something to consider. Takes a bit longer but pretty much installs a new version of it instead of upgrading. Leaves you with a HUGE "Windows.old" folder for rollback in case there is problems.

I have been on 25h2 for a bit now and personally think the effort was worth it. After my original upgrade to 25h2 my system has been faster and more responsive as well as feels like (not sure if it is) it has better memory managment abilities.

Reason for the memory management statement, on 24h2 I was unable to run multiple Kontakt 8 instruments in Dorico but with 25h2 I am now able to run up to 16 instruments before my system starts freezing up.

I posted the route I followed to get 25h2 somewhere here in this thread. Will see if I can find it then repost it for you.

I had this issue a month ago when I was upgrading. I used a USB boot drive. Basically after trying it over and over again I finally got it to work. In my instance, changing the USB port the thumb drive was in helped. It could have just been a fault with the built in USB on my case because I stuck it in the back directly to the mobo IO and it worked.

Didn't game much yesterday as I was messing about with my new Akai MPD226 MIDI pad. Saw someone selling it on Facebook Marketplace for $40 brand new, they aren’t officially sold anymore but were about $200+ when they were new. Great deal! The lady said her husband had big dreams but gave up on learning how to use it and now just sticks with guitars.

Got it working on FL Studio after an hour of pulling my hair out. I can see where his frustration came from, but I persisted. It’s not as simple as plug and play unfortunately.

Didn’t record anything, just messed about with the drum pads. They’re so much fun. Unfortunately this pad isn’t officially supported in FL anymore, probably because it’s no longer officially supported by Akai, so I’m relying on an open source MIDI controller for it I found on GitHub. Even had to change some values in one of the files to get it to work… I guess that makes me a Python engineer now.

Really fun to play around with. I haven’t gotten all the knobs and sliders configured yet, but that will be fun once I can modulate the sounds using them.

In all VST's, you can program your inputs. E.g. Pad 1 is C2 etc. Most of the VST's are programmable. They made it that way so that you can create your own sequence on pretty much any MIDI device.

I personally use Groove SE, and you simply right click on the pad (In the VST) and then press the button you want allocated to it.

Nice MIDI controller. Wonder why they stopped supporting it? Would have figured a MIDI is a MIDI is a MIDI so supports anything as long as it is MIDI (LMAO)

I am not that good with drumming (Or Beats) mine is a simple 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 with a fill so I usually end up just using loops for it. Someday I will figure out how to create a proper beat. But till then I leave it for the others. Long I have a doof in there somewhere I am ok. LMAO

Have you tried something like Hotkey? Just to get it to recognise the buttons (Pads) similar to setting up a gamepad?

I had to use their software MPCEditor to assign each pad to a certain channel. You can do that on the pad itself but I found the software was easier than finicking with the knob and buttons. Doing that with the software makes FL recognize each pad as a separate button, before it thought each button was the same input or something like that. I also changed the color of the pads to a nice aqua blue.

I take back what I said in my last post, the pad seems to work just fine using the Generic Controller driver, no need for that custom one I downloaded last night. I just had to configure it correctly using the MPCEditor software and it worked just fine. On FL Studio there is a plugin called FPC which mimics an MPC drum pad and I just needed to manually map the buttons through there also. I also found out how to link the knobs and sliders to different things in FL so now I can use those properly. I have them set to different effects which is really cool.

That custom driver seems to be for people who want to get much more involved with compatibility. It's not perfect right out the box, I still can't figure out how to map other buttons like Stop and Record to FL, but I'll find out eventually. It's been very fun learning how to configure it, and once I got it working I played on it for nearly 3 hours loading in different drum sounds and sample loops I found on Splice.

Glad you got sorted. LMAO yeah, I have the same problem. I tend to take the hard route to get something done when the easy way was just to use it with what it came with. Glad to see I am not the only one doing it.

There must be an automation or a setting for your stop, play etc. The sliders I would imagine will be linked to effects.

But do have a question for you. Most of my equipment are out dated (So asking out of interest). If I E.g. have my Roland Keyboard set to midi then I need to use both my MIDI in and out ports. So it is pretty much 2 MIDI plugs going over to USB and then to the PC or what ever hardware I am using at the time. I noted on yours it has USB, MIDI in and MIDI out. Do you still need to run on both MIDI ports or do you just run it directly on the USB?

Also if you create something on the MIDI pad. Are you able to save it and later "upload" it to the PC or does it work only when running through your DAW?

So many questions I have on the newer MIDI technology it aint even funny.

I figured out the sliders and knobs, on FL you just right-click whatever you want to automate, select "Set to Controller", then move the knob/slider and it immediately recognizes what you want to link together. I linked the knobs to various effects such as a bitcrusher or flanger. I tried the same with the Stop/Record buttons in FL but I'm not given that same option, so I'll have to dig a bit deeper.

For my purposes I use the pad as a controller directly in FL, so technically I'm not using MIDI at all. I only use the USB cable included in the box, it even powers on the pad. I saw there was a DC plug in the back but no power adapter and got worried for a second until it lit up after plugging into my PC.

If you were going to use MIDI for say a keyboard/synth, you will need some sort of interface for it. I'm not too familiar with these. On Amazon you can buy a kit that has the MIDI cables with XLR (edit: they're not XLR, the MIDI connectors just look very similar to me) connectors, a box to plug those in, then a USB cable that goes to the PC. I'm not sure how MIDI really works to be honest...

So far I haven't found out a way to save sounds directly to the pad and play them off there. I'm certain there is a way to do it. It's got pad banks included on the hardware so I would assume you can load sounds directly to it. But then that would require a MIDI setup that I don't have. Again I just use it as a controller in FL for now. It would be neat to be able to make music on the fly without a PC. I bet there is a way to make a track directly on the hardware then upload to a PC, a lot of older equipment could do that.

MIDI is just a fancy name of Electronic music standards. Long time ago I heard what MIDI stood for and what it was originally going to be called but honestly I forgot those names.

You are saying that you only using the USB answered pretty much my question. Means the MIDI in/out and power is on the USB. Kind of makes me wonder why they added the separate MIDI ports then if it could all have just run off the USB. So that pretty much tells me that there is more things that can be done on the controller.

Yes, the endless Cables. LMAO. Audio vs PC are two different ballgames. In Audio there is in general no standard ports and whatever you buy make sure you buy adapters for them since they will probably not work with your current sets of cables anyway and if you do, they will need adaptors for other reasons. So, in short when they advertise a special on adapters or convertors with whatever you are buying, buy those since you will need them. LMAO.

Maybe next year I will go into MIDI instruments. Saw some huge price drops on Native instruments over here. All I can think is that they are getting ready to introduce some new models. Really like their MK3 61 key.

I think the MIDI in/out is for playing it directly off the pads, while not hooked up to a PC. I saw a tiktok video of a guy who had the MPD226 hooked up to what looked like a record player but I assume is like a "digital sampler" - it had a spinning platter but no record on it. I think you load sounds to it and can play with them like you are scratching real vinyl. He used those two together and had it plugged straight to some speakers using the midi output.

I also saw someone have it plugged straight into a Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator and that was very cool.... though those are pretty impractical besides just being toys to play with.
