The story of Zed and the peacemakers...I mean, cheesemakers

Cheesemaker #1: "Wot we gonna do wiv all this 'ere old cheese, guv'nor?"

Cheesemaker #2: "Stick it in a fancy package, don’t say ’ow long it’s been sittin’ 'bout, an’ flog it fer a quid!"

*cheese travels across the Atlantic*

Zed: "Well, would ya look at that—English cheddar fer a buck! Shoot, I’ll take me ten o’ those."

I don't know how long this cheese I bought yesterday was aged, and I'm no expert, but based on the cheese I've tried, it's probably in the 10 to 14 year range. For me, the sweet spot is usually around 5 years. I honestly don't think I can eat this. I don't mind it being dry and crumbly, but it is too sharp and bitter. At least the dog likes it.

That sounds like a properly ripened English cheddar. Just go back to your orange stuff from a can, youll feel better that way :p

On a serious note was there a brand on it, or was it some artisan stuff?

That is the most adorable little RC vehicle I have ever seen.
Thanks! I painted it up and weathered it. I'm proud of the other side which has a plain, unrusted green door, as though it was replaced. I thank my wife for that idea.

Unfortunately, one of the mirrors broke off while we were playing with it. But it's lost a lot of details since I got it and after I removed and put them back on for painting, so I need to just spend the $20 or whatever it is to order a whole new set of them.

I should say, it's a Unimog! One of my favorite vehicles, though I'm sure I'll never have the opportunity to own or drive one.

I was never into RC vehicles, but as a kid model rockets were my thing. I'd buy 2 or 3 of 10 different types and make wild combinations to launch. Most of them didn't work well, but it was fun to mash 3 different kits together and see how it flew (or crashed ).

Pretty much where I'm at with my RC fixation right now! There are so many parts and combinations for even just the rock crawlers I'm into, I get to see what works and what's fun to play with. It also gets me outside and moving to build my course for my trucks to crawl over.

Never did get into model rockets; I had always wanted to, but wasn't sure how it worked and Dad never took the time to actually show me, so I didn't really develop that interest, unfortunately.

Model rockets is easy.

Glue balsa wood wings onto a tube, stick an engine up the bottom of the tube. From the top some wadding to keep the engine from burning up you recovery chute, a shock cord, a parachute and a nose cone. Stick a straw to the tube, slide the straw on a launch rod and use an igniter to ignite the engine and watch it go up.

If you did it right it'll go a couple hundred feet in the air, the nose cone will pop off and the chute will deploy and gently fall back to earth.

If you did it MY way, well, lots of exciting things can happen. The rocket can blow up on the launch pad. It couldl launch, go about 50 feet in the air and blow up. Go 200 feet in the air and fail to deploy the chute and come falling back to earth in a not gentle way. Or you might forget the recovery wadding and watch your recover chute pop from the top all melted and smoking. It could go 5 feet up, take a left turn at Albuquerque and fly 100 feet sideways 5 feet off the ground into the open window of a truck and burn a big hole in the passenger seat.

And how might the truck driver react in this instance?

It's in Aldi (the store) packaging. It doesn't say who actually made it, only that it comes from Cheddar England. They did call it "vintage", but I didn't think it would be that vintage. I've loved all the other English cheddar I've gotten from there. I don't like the Irish cheddar, but the English has always been great. I'll just avoid this one in the future.

Not so much so for a friend of my brother's when they were young lads some 55 yrs ago or so. They may have safer ways to make your own rocket engines now, but one day he was packing powder into one he was building from scratch and lost his fingertip.

Me, I just used large firecrackers stuck into a small hole punched into the bottom of a small tuna fish can, put the thing on a very shallow puddle, lit it and watched it go. They didn't shoot as high but you also didn't have to worry about tracking it down and hoping it didn't land in a bad spot.

Today I wanted to spoil my three nephews a bit and perhaps went a little overboard when buying pizza and candy. I bought 12 360-gram pizzas, 4 bags of chips, 2 chocolate bars, one bag of assorted chocolate, and 10 different candy bags with everything from sweet/sour/salt. I did not buy any soft drinks, because I wanted them to not be too unhealthy:sweatsmile:

That's like ordering a triple bacon cheeseburger with extra large fries but a Diet Coke for the drink. It's the principal that counts.

12 360-gram pizzas,
Grams. I bought this Belgian food the other day, and it had the best instructions ever on the box. It told me to put a certain amount of grams on a plate. I've never used grams, so I have no mental image of what that would look like. And then the next instruction was to put the plate in the microwave and "use advisable settings". I thought, "Okay, put some on a plate, put it in the microwave, and don't be an idiot. Got it."

The eyes of theater employees must light up when they see you coming! Then again, I imagine the poor souls waiting behind you in line must get a bit annoyed. :ROFLMAO:

So you made them fight over the 2 chocolate bars? You should have bought 3 to be fair...

Sounds like a balanced meal right there.

I suddenly have lots of free time and if it weren't for my course I am half way through, I would look for a game to lose self in. Alas, I can't do that escape... so I sit pondering what to do next.

Just saw a pitch on Shark Tank for a product called Firefly, which is an after workout recovery device worn below the knee that stimulates the peroneal nerve. This causes the calf and foot muscles to contract about once per sec. It effectively pumps blood back up to your heart, and does so quite a bit more effectively than bulky calf/foot boots that do so with pneumatic compression.

The problem I see with the device, as most of the sharks did, is it only lasts for 30 hrs, then has to be disposed. It's also just an adhesive type bandage design that holds it in place. Seems to me they would sell a TON of these if they made them with a rechargeable battery and adjustable strap. Affordability, convenience, and less environmentally wasteful are like the trifecta lately.

They run $48 a pair btw. I hope the 2 sharks that invested in it can convince them to make it reusable far more than a month.

let me tell you how smart I am. Wife is working on a family leave thing and wanted a picture, so I had AI make a picture of a mom bottle feeding a baby. Long story short, I thought the mom's head was too small, so I put the picture in "inpainting", highlighted the head area and typed "she has a big head" and set it to make 36 pictures. You can guess what it did.

This "she has a big head" has worked in this situation before, but now I have 36 pictures of women with ridiculous bobblehead-sized heads.

When does the smart part come in? 😉

Does anyone else have an increase of sirens? My neighborhood has always been pretty quiet the few years I've lived here, and even with an emergency center half a mile away the number of sirens we hear was far and few between.

The last couple of months the number of sirens I hear has risen...by a lot. It's gone from a few a week to several a day. I'm not exactly sure what to think about that.

Same as usual here, but I live in a relatively large city that is constantly busy. And there's a fire station right down the street from me.

Yeah we have a fire station just down the street from my new residence. It's comforting to know they're close by, but it's also a bit surprising how busy they are, as much so as the ones on calls where I used to live, that had a TON of incidents from fires to ODs.

I often forget that just a few blocks east of our neighborhood is a well know avenue where prostitutes hang out. There was a shootout right in the middle of it right after I moved here that was only 13 blocks south of us. Apparently there's a big pimp turf war going on.

On that avenue a lot of drug activity goes on. I imagine a lot of fire house responses are related to drug overdoses here too, or accidental fires caused by people drugged out of their minds. Things seem to be a bit less chaotic since public Narcam stations were approved.

Tricks must be insanely low right now.
I honestly think the gals are better off being call girls and avoiding pimps entirely. The pimps have a lot of them believing they need them for protection or to get them customers, but they'd actually be more safe both ways without them, AND make more money. I don't condone prostitution mind you, but I think if more of them were call girls, at least they'd have a chance to get out of that life.

No, but mainly as we don't all live really close to each other and it would be strange if the entire world suddenly had the same thing happen. Generally don't hear any here.
