I suddenly felt compelled to play Battlefield 6 since there's this big thread on it, and it doesn't even release until October. What's wrong with you people?

I was just going to see if there was a single-player campaign. I can't play anything requiring too much skill with this hotel bed set-up I'm currently using, and the ETA for us getting back into the house is after the beta is over. I can wait until October. Unless, of course, Guido wants to play the beta, then I'm in.

King of Sweden is back! He made this same video on BF3 back in 2011.

I've got sniper shotguns in both Darktide and Dune Awakening. They don't call them that, but when your shotgun's stats show your effective range as 80 meters, it might as well be called a sniper shotgun. The one in Darktide is the best. You still have decent spread. I had an enemy I couldn't see, but shooting in the general direction turned out to be good enough lol. The better shotguns in Dune Awakening are the burrowing kind, the Drill Shots that can penetrate people's shields.

Finally got around to trying the beta — first impressions are solid. The gunplay feels punchy, but yeah, TTK could use some tuning. I'm mostly sticking to Domination for now. Anyone else getting weird stutters on mid-range cards?

Playing the second beta, its pretty solid. Not liking that they grouped domination and KOTH together, id rather just play domination but its still fun.

All I had to do was turn off CSM and turn on SecureBoot in my BIOS. SecureBoot wouldn't enable at first, but in my Gigabyte BIOS I had an option to "reset platform key", not sure what it does, but that made SecureBoot become enabled and the game worked like a charm after that. Nothing at all changed about my PC, performance feels the same, I have all my data still.


The strange thing about this game requiring SecureBoot to be enabled is that the Skate closed playtest didn't ask me to enable it, and both games use EA's new Javelin anti-cheat software. Perhaps a game like BF is much more prone to cheaters than Skate is.

I too just had to find SecureBoot in BIOS and all works great now.

So far I've really enjoyed the Beta but don't find it particularly better than BFV or even some of the 2042 maps. It seems like the next best progression of the series but also feels like there's not a lot of new elements besides drag-revive.

After 2042 they're giving the gamers exactly what they want - Battlefield 4.1.

The unfortunate truth is that is exactly what most of us want haha. A series like BF is hard to innovate and change without core fans getting angry. I actually liked BFV more than most it seems, it was different enough to breath some new life into the series. The building aspect was cool but I was probably the only one utilizing it in matches.

Totally agree — BFV had its flaws but the building mechanics were underrated. Felt like no one else even touched them!

I still jump in to BFV matches once in a while. The Pacific was one of the greatest updates of BF history.

But yes, Battlefield 4.1 by no means is a bad thing, they're doing what they do well. My only other complaint is there is SO much information on the screen at once. Sometimes its just icon vomit everywhere. Not sure how to combat it but one of these BF iterations may do it well with a more minimalist UI.

This is one issue that I hope is fixed soon. It's really not all that bad, but it can be so much better. The menu was hard to understand at first but now I'm used to it, however it's not ideal and could use a makeover. The menu shown in the Reddit video linked in this article would be perfect to me.

That map has been available since closed beta. BF6 is adding two more large maps with helis and jets in October.

Alright, the open beta is over and here's my thoughts:

1. The smaller maps aren't a terrible thing, but with a low TTK and the movement abilities there's not a lot of incentive to use guns other than the SMGs and light assault rifles. I tried running LMG and the damage at range wasn't super substantial and I would lose close quarters frequently because of the slower draw to aim-down-sights.
2. Breakthrough feels unbalanced to favor the defenders. With so much going on on the screen it can be hard to find folks hiding in the corners, and taking objs is difficult unless you've got a team who really wants to work together.
3. I put the game down a lot. I would play a few matches and get bored, take a break, and come back later. I never got into the mindset of needing to play the next match. It kind of got boring after long.
4. Suggestions for improvement:
   • Weapon balance - increase LMG damage, decrease SMG damage.
   • Less icon vomit all over the map. It was hard to see what was going on with the screen covered in neon icons.
   • Surface-to-air felt pretty OP, could use a light nerf. I was swatting jets out of the sky no problem.

This was one of the biggest realizations for me over the beta. I really enjoyed the game, saw lots of areas for improvement, but generally wasn't in the mindset to grind that much. Glad the beta was free because it made me realize maybe I don't want to buy the game at launch and wait just a bit for a discount.

For sure. In the meantime I'm excited to try out the Iwo Jima map in 2042. It was my favorite map in V.

Just finding out about that, I may hop on and check out the new map. Haven't played BF2042 in about a year, I hope there have been some good updates since then. When I played last year it seemed most issues were fixed, but I did get the occasional stutter and performance lag.
