Auto-close older threads

I see Colif closing a number of threads where OP hasn't come back and the 'discussion' is mainly more of the same 'content' we've been seeing recently. I think that's a good idea, leaves fewer threads open to be spammed, thus lessening load on the mods.

In that vein, XenForo almost certainly has a feature that it can auto-close threads which haven't had a reply in X days, or where OP is more than X days old. That could help you guys also.

that's interesting, members should be able to start a conversation with me. I will alter one setting, see if that works.

I am only closing them if op hasn't commented recently. Not trying to kill forums, just clean them up a little

Xenforo probably does have such an add on.

There's times where it's nice to keep a topic alive for a long time. For instance, the funny screenshot thread doesn't get all that much activity but its nice to have them all in one thread. It's not THAT big of a deal, though, as one of the early posters can just put in a link to the older topic.

Single topic threads such as that are fine to keep alive, I understand that.

It's an automated one I'm worried might start closing things. Though, if the automation dropped suggestions in a mod's to-do box, I bet it'd work out nicely.

i normally find them when someone else replies to them. Some users are really good at finding old posts... i just close them afterwards. If they really old I delete the new statement to send the post back in time and off the front page.

forums sort posts chronologically so if you find a new post on an old thread and the previous reply on a thread is Jan 2019 , when you delete the new post the thread will be sorted back to when the previous post was made. Removing it from view and stopping other people replying.
