Hi everyone! I want to upgrade to a 1660 TI. I want a suggestion, these are my specs:

CPU: i7-8700 (3.2GHz I think)
GPU: 1060 (6GB VRAM)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16 ; 3200MHz)
Memory: 1TB WD Blue HDD

I don't have a big budget and the maximum I could afford is a 1660 TI (that means around 300 USD). I want opinions about it, is it good? Or can you guys recommend me another GPU? Thanks in advance!

I would not upgrade to a 1660 Ti. If you can wait a few months... maybe Jan 2021 or later, early 2021. NVIDIA and AMD will release their less powerful GPUs that might fit your $300 budget. Those GPUs will definitely be more powerful than 1660 Ti if we follow the trend from last gen to current/upcoming gen GPUs.

Edit: If you can wait for upcoming GPUs, then consider upgrading from 1TB WD Blue HDD storage to SSD in the meantime

While it's a personal call, wait for better, or get it now, I can't speak to that. But if you are needing an upgrade right now and cannot wait (like I was last year) I can certainly say the 1660ti is a great card. I have the MSI 1660ti in my rig and it keeps pace with all the big cards for my gaming needs. My bottle neck is actually my crappy 60hz monitor. If I could go 144 or better, I would be in much better shape even with my 1660ti.

I think the GTX 1660TI is a good upgrade from a GTX 1060. It is ~1,5=150% faster than a GTx 1060 that means that it is as strong as if triple SLI with 3 GTX 1060 would work perfekt without any input lag, micro stuttering and bad frame times.

It has 6 GB GDDr6 V-Ram with a 192 BIT Memoryinterface and on the Turing TU 116 GPU-Chip are 1536 Shader Alus unlocked.

But these arent little Kepler Shader Alus, these are the same Turing microprocessor cores like in the RTX Cards.
Only the RT Cores are completely deactivated.
There is no real other option in the 300 Dollar price segment.

There are a few cards which are about the same speed, but with a much worse efficiency, like the GTx 1070, GTX 980TI or the AMD RX 590.

But you should also note that these older GPUs are only slightly faster or equally fast in games, with older engines. In new and upcoming games, it will look the other way around, apart from the better driver support of the newer cards.

As I understand it, the GTx 1660TI should be as fast in upcoming games as a GTX 1080, which is about ~ 21-23% faster than the GTX 1660TI in older games with engines that are designed for Pascal.

I think that you can compare the GTX 1660TI with an RTX 2060 in new games as long as ray tracing is not activated.

Another option that many will advise against is to buy a used RTX 2060, which is also available for ~ 330 dollars.

So I always do it this way and have never bought a defective module and I have never broken one of many cards.

Still, a brand new GTx 1660Ti is the better GPU in terms of your other components. The core i7 8700 should be able to fire up the card at full speed if you activate Speed Step Technology and of course activateTurbo Mode so that the CPU is working with the highest possible allcore turbo.

You should invest in a M.2 NVME SSD like the Samsung 970 EVO with 240 GB, it will work good with your HDD together.

If necessary you can use an adapter to PCIe.
This would give the system, together with your Ram a very good performance,
especially if you activate the rapid mode and use parts of your RAM as cache memory.

The GTX 1660TI is the GPU that fits best into your system and still makes it fit for the future as a gamer system with 1080P and 1440P.

If you want to play and definitely want to be able to play in the future than the GTx 1660Ti is the card i recommend

I have the GTX 1660ti in my Asus TUF FX705DU laptop, using a AMD Ryzen 7-3750H, and 32gb 2666 DDR 4, Corsair Vengeance memory. A Western Digital Black NVMe 1TB SSD,
I have been able to run MSFS 2020, with all settings at ultra, and am getting on a average of 19-25 FPS. And no stutter.
I’m not sure how much different it would be in your desktop, but I’m extremely pleased with it in my laptop.
With the current situation with chips right now, it’s anyone’s guess as to when, and how much they are going to be when they come out.
If your able to find an 1660ti, I would recommend you grab it, if the price isn’t over the top.
Good luck!
