Another game killed by cheats

I was planning on buying age of mythology retold as it is on sale in steam but before that i looked through discussions for comments about cheaters and sure enough they have hit the game and some players are even saying its possible to design your own cheat if you know where to look so that the anti cheat cant get you. So i guess thats another game i wont be buying , i wonder how many sales they loose when would be purchases read comments like that and put their credit card away.

I said to one guy all you are doing is stopping clean players enjoying themselves and in the even the only opponent you will get is another cheater with a high ranking like your , and the match winner will be the person who can press their keyboard the fastest , i cant repeat what the reply was.

I have never really been into modern day war games but thought i would try , i went on discussions pages of war thunder , world of warships and world of tanks. I asked the same question on all 3 .... does this game have cheaters and they all said yes. Some players said the cheats only hit high ranking games because by that time you will probably spent money on something and be really hacked off that your loosing.

I wonder what the results would be if steam posted a survey asking if you avoided buying a game or micropayments on free games simply because they are being ruined by cheaters

^Surely you can still enjoy playing against a computer opponent? No cheating, no input lag and it can be as hard as a non-cheating human being.
Of course i can play against AI but the point i was trying to make is when players read discussion pages about how many cheaters their are in a particular game they dont bother using it. maybe SOME games makes dont care because their product is being sold world wide instead of a corner shop so they dont see lost sales as a problem.

I even avoid games that have MP as an option as they typically have a far more toxic community. I asked a question about a game called Mechabellum i think. It was a simple question about the game basics. I do this a lot to see if it even remotely interests me then i can take a deeper look. All i got was troll answers, i don't need that kind of crap. I like to talk about the games i play, not deal with the crap. If you avoid games that even have MP, the forums are far more friendly. Sure they get the occasional trolling but they are gone quick. pvp games, it never ends.

Kinda surprised that AOM has so many cheaters, i would have thought it would have been the more robust of the RTS multiplayer games. Wonder if AOE2 s better?

I agree with every word you say... btw if you want some real toxic abuse go on dota2 and loose a match , the team who beat you will even give you abuse for making a bad match ... i got rid after about 3 days.

I think it just has to do with popularity then with a side factor age of player base. I find older people are less likely to cheat at video games.

For instance much warrior online has very few cheats or people thar use them. It also helps that the game is slower paced so it's easier to land shots, and the game is about knowledge od where to target to take out powerful weapons as the game has 2 arms, L and R torso and ct, legs and heads hits.

Also a gause rifle with is about the only good head hit weapons it has a charge system that takes a lot of skill and timing, something an aim bot doesn't help and you can sheild it making the opportunities low. Sharing armor and positional twisting also makes or breaks matches. Basically and good player can land 90% of there shots, the difference is who priorities better with better team work.

It's basically the only pvp game I play, bur haven't for 2 years because I got sick of the bs. I'll probably play the event over the holiday, they give away a free mech. I played like 4 matches last year, out side of that it's been a long time

i agree with this point. If I only intend to play against AI, I really don't care about other people cheating in their games. As long as game isn't online only, it has no effect on me.

I don't care about community on a single player game. I only interact with them to report bugs or find tips. I generally don't choose what games I want to play based on what other people say... I might use videos more.

i do remember that old PCG article on why people cheat, and one of them was to give those with disabilities or slower reactions an advantage (or straight up win). understandable, but doesn't make it right. But what annoys me is ranked matches where people try to cheat their way to the top, personally i like to think ranked matches as a way to find equally good players so it should be a fairer fight and as you get better or worse it balances it further making it even better. in theory at least.

Alas cheaters are always around what ever competitive game these days. Not even banning them outright works as its only one instance and they keep coming back.

Nah, a game is never ruined by cheaters for me either. Certain MP modes? Sure, but the game as a whole? Nah. I personally dont play a lot of MP anymore but its usually the games design for MP to begin with. Add that with a toxic community and cheaters then ill stop, but its never solely cheaters.
