I'm assuming the laptop is for gaming (among any other things). In gaming, the part that goes obsolete in terms of performance soonest is usually the graphics card. In a desktop you can just upgrade the graphics card, while in a laptop you're stuck with it and can't upgrade. Therefore it usually makes sense to get a laptop with the best graphics card you can reasonably afford, as this delays for as long as possible the point at which you find yourself needing to replace the entire system.

For ~$1000 USD I'd probably expect being able to find a laptop with a GTX 1660 / ti, which is substantially more powerful than a 1650.

I'm not sure what pricing is like in Canada (Newegg refuses to let me see its Canadian store because it sees I'm in Europe:/), and apparently there's a laptop shortage due to pandemic + back to school season.

Bestbuy.ca looks like its been stripped bare but still has a couple of options with 1660 or better

There is this on Amazon.ca apparently:

Ryzen 7 CPU, RTX 2060, 16gb RAM, 500gb SSD. Sold by Amazon, not a marketplace seller. 1315 CAD

I've only looked at a glance and ofc it's not my money, but given the value it appears to offer and the back to school laptop rush that seems to be happening, you might want to weigh the option up asap.

hey. thank you for going above and beyond for a complete stranger, i really appreciate it, funnily enough someone else suggested a lesser model of this laptop in a different thread. im gonna seriously consider this one before i make my final decision. but thank you for the other option because i now know that ive found the debatably best laptops. regardless of what i pick i can feel happy knowing i know the best options
