Gpu spike in usage

My gpu has been acting up. Whenever I play a game after a few minutes the gpu goes from 11% to 100% and the monitor shuts off but the pc is still on. I've tried unplugging and plugging in the monitor but no use. I've tried ctrl shift win + b but nothing works. What can I do? My graphics card is GeForce GT 630

I'm not a hardware guy, someone more knowledgeable should be along soon—but that graphics card is a decade or more old so no surprise it struggles today. To help you, the guys will need to know:

Exact make & model of your Power Supply;
Motherboard;
Case & cooling parts;

Monitor model & Hz;
Resolution you're running at;
What graphic settings level have you enabled?

Are all drivers & BIOS up to date?

what kind of games are you playing?

So it works normally apart from in games?

Have you tried cleaning its fans? What temperatures are you getting?

Specs of PC in general would help.

It doesnt just happen while gaming, sometimes I'll be using paint.net and it happens. I've tried cleaning the fans but that didnt work.

Samsung, I have had a few of those.

it could be the gpu itself judging from its behaviour. How old is it?

which version of windows? Is this 10? search for reliability history and see if it shows any errors regarding GPU drivers turning off.

CPU has integrated graphics but not good enough to play any games on it.

The graphics card was released in 2012. I know, I know. It might just be too old to run these games but I'm pretty sure GPU's last longer than 7 years. The monitor turning off thing started happening in 2019 but it wasn't as severe. I just thought there might be a problem with the monitor. I didnt have any spare monitors so I couldn't test it out. The problem occurred when I was still using windows 8.1 but then I switched to windows 10 thinking that would fix the problem but it didnt. I think the graphics card is probably damaged and that is what's causing the problem.

Hardware doesn't last forever. 12 years is good for anything. Most of my GPU died way before then. My last one was only 5 years old when it started to fail. It could just be old age.

I am not sure what GPU to suggest, mainly as we don't know what PSU you have
I see people still sell GT 630 though not shops

Have you tried another monitor at any stage?

Yes, actually. The time I tested with another monitor, it turned off again but this time some text popped up on the screen but I can't remember what it said. I'll test it with the other monitor again.

It's much less to do with chronological years and almost all to do with the level and duration of usage. So eg a GPU used for crypto mining will have a much shorter lifespan than one used for surfing the web.

Can you test with a different cable?

one reason for that message is outdated drivers, I expect you on the latest that work with GPU.
updating windows has been known to help.

one test to see if it is card is to use it in another PC and see if you have same problem.

If you used it since 2012, and that isn't just when card was released, I expect its probably the GPU.

have you tried this

Go to full screen but dont go (make ur windows tool bar appear: in Minecraft, go to options, videosettings, full screen: OFF. Then pull the box until it gets big and enough to play. 1 thing!! Set ur GUI size to normal (in minecraft). This way it doesnt take the entire screen.
