I bought a Dell Laptop Windows 98 SE. It plays Sim City. But the problem is that it doesn't play the Quake game I bought and several other such as Carmen Sandiego or Links 386 Pro. I was a bit surprised.
I'm getting into retro computer games. And I am definitely using the sites that emulate the games. But as a hobbyist and purist, I'm interested in playing them raw, in their original state, if POSSIBLE. There's just nothing like it. It's complicated though.
I grew up with a Macintosh computer. It played a handful of games but I don't think it would ever play Doom or Quake originals. It played MYST, which was cool. But is there a PC labtop that will play all of the old mac games plus lets say every game or almost every other game before the year 2000? I'm looking for something that will be pretty universal in the retro arena. What's the best all around retro machine that plays most CD Roms?
