What is the greatest game trailer of all time?

There are tons that I have loved. Music plays a huge part in it. But if i could only pick one, I'd have to go with the Planet Coaster announcement trailer. I put a massive amount of hours in the first 3 Roller Coaster Tycoon games, and then Atari desctroyed the franchise. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Frontier, who made RCT 3, made this announcement. I can't really separate how I felt about the announcement from how I view the trailer, so this probably isn't as good to other people.

My main runner-ups would be:

Just kidding about that last one.

The Planet Coaster trailer is my favourite out of the ones you posted, so it's not just because of your personal feelings on it.

i don't watch trailers as most of them are just cut scenes and until recently those don't represent what game actually looks like. Many of the games in the past have not met expectations based on trailers.
Its not game play, its just a movie. There to make you excited about the existence of something you still haven't seen yet.
ehh, I'm in the movie/trailer liker camp. 😁

even if it isn't gameplay representative, I still like to watch these since I watch short films too 😁

There has to be a market for them or they wouldn't make them at all.

let them add to many Cutscenes and you end up with The Order 1886 on PS4 that was 4 hours of cut scenes in a 6 hour game. Sorry, not enough game in that game
Hmmmm, I take it you aren't a fan of FMV games perhaps? 😅

that said, I went reading up on The Order 1886, and some people liked it, some people didn't, and some said it was just an "extended tech demo for sale" 😂

Others opined it was totally worth the price on sale, not full price for something that's more than half-cutscenes. 😁 oh well.

Sort of reminds me of quantum break, though...

It's super sad and I wasn't a massive fan of the game, but this still stays with me:

it's the first time I watched this dead Island trailer, and wow, this is a great mini movie I'd say...
sort of like flash-fiction to invoke emotion. 🥲

I also found this in the comments... lel. 👇 the feels.

I've watched this by itself many times. I've watched reactions and explanations and breakdowns of this video. I watched this just now and I'm still tearing up. It doesn't help that I have had two daughters since the first time I watched this. The panic on the father's face when he shifted between his daughter and wife is what got me to tear up again today

it probably started at this game
but perhaps its just a laser disc game... not really FMV
I never knew it was only 12 minutes long. so many repeated scenes. If it had been longer I wouldn't have made it.

its funny, we could do fmv a lot better now but people stuck on polygons
Wow, that looks really interesting, feels like a choose your own adventure, but like a Disney animated film/game. 😁

I wonder if I should get this for the steam family sharing... 🤔

also what do you mean people are stuck on polygons? We got 8k model textures incoming, and 16k is on the way...
oh, wait... polygons... 🤣

also, I read a few articles about FMV's making their way back to popularity in the past years...

Dragons lair relied on reaction speed and memorising patterns. I never saw the end until today, and yet game is only 12 minutes long if you get it all right. Very repetitive, lots of mirrored scenes and the same things a few times. Only some stages were unique.
I never had rose coloured glasses for this Game, I hated it all this time. It was a big thing when it came out but laser disc games were just a dead end.

Sort of except every wrong way is death. Its why it was based on reaction and memorisation. Need to know what to do before it happens. Game was expensive in arcades too, and well... it was released in 1983 and its only now, 39 years later I saw much past the first few areas. Games back then designed to kill you so you invest more coins.

@SWard - I don't think a "greatest game tailer of all-time", it's just too subjective depending upon the individual gamer. But, I think that there are many really great ones, even if I don't actually end up playing the game. @ZedClampet listed one of my all-time favorites, Fallout 4, so I'll skip that, but here are a few that I've enjoyed greatly:

Cyberpunk 2077 (too bad the game didn't live up to the hype)

Mass Effect Andromeda (it had some issues, but still a great & underrated game)

Mass Effect 4 (maybe, but there is hope for Mass Effect fans that the series still lives)

I absolutely loved Dragon's Lair. I was amazed by how advanced the graphics were compared to everything else out there at the same time. It was beautiful. Years later, I was very disappointed to find out it was just hand-drawn animations on a laserdisc. I thought they had actually created a GPU that could handle graphics that good.

A friend of mine, let's call him George (that was his name) actually finished this game, and it didn't take him too many tries, either. I only played it a few times and then moved on to other games. I loved the graphics, but the memorization gameplay didn't really do it for me.

There are only 31 laser disk games and well, they all arcade machines. So not knowing they weren't graphics cards is understandable I guess. I don't think they lasted much more than 10 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:LaserDisc_video_games

I know I never saw this one
this reminds me of Starfox on the N64, just 4 years later.

I didn't realize there were any after Dragon's Lair, but I quit going to arcades around this time because everyone started charging 50 cents per game. Plus, consoles basically caught up with arcade machines.
