What are some of your in-game bad habits?

Here's what I want to know: Why is it that as we are reaching the extraction vehicle, people turn around and start firing off rocket launchers and tossing grenades? You know those can be used during the mission? One of those rockets would have been nice five minutes ago. What are you saving this stuff for? Oh, thanks for dropping the medkit now. I'll feel all refreshed walking around the hub.

But that's other people, mostly. My problem is even worse. I get distracted and suddenly I hear a disembodied voice say, "We need to stick together!" I don't know who said that because I look around and, except for the mobs who keep showing up to fight me, I'm all alone. Damn the mission objectives! I'm busy here!

I want to say holding on to stuff for too long, but I think some of that is prudence in the face of the unknown. When I know what's coming, that doesn't happen so much.

Take grenades in Just Cause 3. I didn't want to use those early on but, as I got a feel for how often they drop as "loot" and how many weapon lockers are around, I started using them far more. I had to get over my FORO (Fear Of Running Out)!

To be honest, I was mostly poking fun at the fact that I keep running into people who fire off everything at the extraction vehicle. Darktide is an incredibly difficult game, at the highest difficulty, I've never played anything harder. It is, at times, literally impossible. So firing off what you have left over is kind of a celebration for some. Holding onto things until sheer desperation and panic take over is actually the right move in Darktide :)

I do that with potions in almost every game I play... still collect them long after I have too many. As unless you played game before, you just don't know what is next. Some potion types may never be used because of this, unless they do something specific as part of a quest.

Once I hit 1000 max healing pots in Torchlight 2 I generally stop lol. That is way more than I need. The lower levels of potions can be combined to make better ones, but once I have max. its no point

Same goes for gold in a lot of games.

yep i always save my resources for a bad day. it means that i could make my life easier but i decide to hold out and hold out until its the end game and then i splurrge. a good recent example was fire emblem, i was hording money (to be fair i bought a lot of stuff and didn't need to spend money) but more importantly, the perm stat bonus stuff. I didn't use 90% of the items until the last one or 2 maps and even then i didn't need them to beat the game. i blame the fact i wasn't sure who my entire core team was and being indecisive as to who i would upgrade. The main team probably didn't need them (their stats were too high) and i wasn't sure if i need to give it to secondary team.

In ghost recon wildlands i did do some questionable things, like civilians getting killed during cross fire or a road accident. But there have been other embarrassing mistakes:

  1. Chased a HVT that i had to apprehend, we trashed his car and he bails. Unfortunately he jumps out from the wrong side and my armored car slams into him and kills him. Mission failed.
  2. Planting landmines for enemy vehicles only for civilian cars to detonate them instead.
  3. tagging resources for vehicles about to explode. i get the resources but the truck explodes seconds latter despite mission success. So in reality the rebels get nothing.
  4. running away from overwhelming odds and calling in rebels to distract the enemy. it was a suicide mission for them.
  5. Knocking out a HVT target, mission complete! but it didn't sit well with me that he gets away so i tried putting 2 rounds into him as well. Bullets didn't do anything after knocking them out.
  6. pulling an enemy out of his car into oncoming traffic. he gets flattened before i could interrogate him for information.

Ok so heres my contributions

As @Zed Clampet said ........ we need to stick together ..... then in the team you see 1 player ignoring instructions and doing his own thing.

Your supposed to be playing as a team and you see 1 players marker never move cos he just decided to hide and let you do all the hard work.

My own biggest bad habit ...... just another 10 minutes ( to wife ) and half hour later i am still doing what i said would take 10 minutes ..... if i am on pc and a certain person drops in for a visit i say will be with you in 10 mins , and they reply is 10 minutes or one of YOUR 10 minutes.

A side-effect of holding onto consumables instead of using them is that I also play very slowly and carefully. In a lot of games I could progress a lot quicker if I used consumables and played more aggressively.

This isn't really a problem as long as I'm enjoying the game of course, but considering how many games I drop before I finish them it wouldn't hurt if I adopted a faster, more aggressive playstyle.

And that's something of a fix: a max number. If you could only hold 10, I bet you would start using that 10th one more often.

A side effect of the side effect is that I end up learning a play-style that doesn't include them. So, even when it's end game, I still might not use them because I never learned the habit.

Reloading after shooting 1 or 2 bullets. Probably my BIGGEST in-game bad habit. Its gotten me killed plenty of times.

Also, "save scumming" i guess? I absolutely crutch on it in games that allow it for several reasons, even ones not related to gaming, but i guess gamers consider this a bad habit. I dont, i will never change!! haha
Is it worse or the same that I'll run 100 meters through empty terrain, arrive at the bad guys, take one shot and have to reload?

I'm getting better, but hoarding stuff I never use is high on the list. Also, camping a bit too long is another one, like in PUBG, where I don't push more when I should, leading to an easy kill for the opponent.
Back when Fortnite first came out, Guido and I played a few matches. I'm sure the way the game is played has changed since then, but we would get in a building and close it up. I'm not even sure you can build anymore. But a couple of times we waited too long to move, and that put us in a tough situation. It's much easier to be the one already there. We kept coming in in the top 5, and then we finally won one, and I told Guido I was officially retired, and I haven't played it since. I'm not really sure how many matches we played, maybe around 10. Battle Royale is just not my thing.

My kids used to win constantly at Fall Guys. Probably weren't that many people playing, I guess.

Yeah, that's definitely mine too. I typically always try and avoid items as I see them as making the game too easy or I worry I may need them at a later point. I've been trying to get better about that, but some games have such tight gameplay without them that I enjoy the simplicity of it vs having to blow everything up with the press of a button.

My Fortnite BR strategy, albeit a bad one, was to hide in a bush when few players were left, because I could not handle the rapid building, so I would be better off just hoping I could sneak in and get the last guy. Sometimes I was lucky, but often I would be in the bush and the last guy high up in the air with all the advantages when the circle started to move.

The problem with Fall Guys is that it is not just a kids' game, so tons of streamers will have found the meta way to play different maps and then kids (and adults) will copy those meta strats to win. I'm sure that it would be hard to win a round in Fall Guys now if you don't know these strats.
My biggest problem is not taking the time to learn how to play a game efficiently. I just Call of Duty every game and kamikaze. Sometimes I will twig good strategies, but a lot of the time I'll not enjoy a game because it won't let me rush in and kill everyone.
I think that is one of the reasons I liked that rebirth mode, because you could parachute in on that small prison island and run and gun a lot. I also enjoyed the free MP events that they gave out from time to time, so I could join the shipment map and just blast away at enemies while leveling weapons to gold and not thinking one bit about strats.

In my experience in Fall Guys, there would at most be a handful of somewhat competent players in each match, but it's been a while since I played.

I'm most likely exaggerating a bit here, but I do wonder how long it would have stayed more "pure" if you know, we adults would not interfere as much. I could also just be terribly wrong and have forgotten about how we, as kids, came up with a super smart way to play different games :D

Somehow Guido figures out these things. He was actually #1 in Peak speed runs for a few weeks. They added something that allowed everyone to beat his record (that's not why they added it, it was just an update), maybe a cannon that you can shoot yourself out of, not sure. But he's not playing it anymore.

There is a cannon now that allows you to shoot yourself quite some distance. It's very useful, though if you misjudge your aim or the force it can be really bad.

The main problem however is that there is (was?) a glitch where you can launch yourself at insane speeds, instantly getting to the top of the mountain, which has probably messed up the leaderboards.

ugh. There was something like that in the Warframe obstacle course, and they never fixed it. Leaderboard in Peak is more important, though, so they'll probably address it.

The obstacle course had thousands of people who had a sub 2 second time (warframe)
