want to run 1440p games best on a 1440p or 4k monitor?

Getting ready to upgrade from 1080p was thinking about going to 1440p. All hardware issues aside. Should I go with a 1440p monitor or a 4k monitor .

Many Thanks

Hi Why_Me,
That info was coming in the next post but happy to provide now.
This PC is used for gaming and my regular day to day stuff.

Current system: Desk Top system
Processor: Ryzen 7 1700
Memory: 16 GB
Video card: dual GeForce GTX 1070 (SLI configuration).
Monitor Asus VE247 (108p max res.)

Not going with SLI in the upgrade.

I live in the US.

Upgrade goal: upgrade the monitor and video card to enable 1440p (4k someday?)
Budget wise I am retired so cannot go for the top of the line (another reason to go with 1440p)

I have been looking at these monitors:
Gigabyte M32Q $399
Asus PG329Q $599
Ultimately may drop down to a 27” monitor.

GPU cannot go to $1, 000 maybe $600-$700 might be able to push it a bit more.

Games I like:
FPS-Battlefield series, call of duty, etc.
world of warships
Home world
I may jump into Arma 3
Looking forward to Starfield

Back in the day I lived in America’s Army

Thanks so much for your help!
Mike

Before getting a new gpu and monitor I would look into getting a new board, cpu, RAM and possibly a psu depending on the age of your current one.

If your motherboard supports Ryzen 5000 series cpu's with updates I would look at this cpu.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/PgcG3C/amd-ryzen-5-5600-36-ghz-6-core-processor-100-100000927box
AMD Ryzen 5 5600 $137.99

Paired up with this RAM if your board supports DDR4 3200.

G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 32GB (2x16GB) CL16 $61.99
Why_Me,
Good advice. It will be fun, To update my Bios up to current it is about 15 bios upgrades.
Although I have a few questions that might be dumb questions currently my MOB has a 7 1700x processor. You are recommending going to a 5 5600. Why not something like a 7 5800x. I see that the 5 has 2 fewer cores than the 7. it that why? I appreciate your comments

The 5600 would be a big step up from your current cpu without taking a big bite out of your budget. The other recommendation would be the Ryzen 7 5700X.

Brian, check out my post "Upgrading the CPU on an Asrock MOB IMPORTANT LESSION LEARNED" in the desktop hardware section.
Thanks for all your help!
