STALKER GAMMA Thread

Starting a new thread for STALKER GAMMA, a modpack for STALKER Call of Prypiat.

I went ahead and started one final new character. No more restarts, this is my final character that I will stick with.

His name is Duren, which is Ukranian for imbecile, fool or idiot. Pretty fitting as you'll come to see from the recounts of my journeys.

Duren is a Loner, crossing over into the Zone in search for adventure, artefacts and money. Like most Loners, Duren's journey starts at the Rookie Village in Cordon.

Here I met another Stalker named Fanatic, who was kind enough to show me around. We hunted some boars, grabbed a Jellyfish artefact, and he even showed me how to find stashes around the world. However, it was a lot easier said than done.

Three boars ambushed us from behind, quickly slashing at my right leg and causing me to bleed. I just got here! I shot one down with the Glock I came here with, hid behind a tree and bandaged myself as Fanatic took care of the other two. Later, while getting the Jellyfish, two zombie Stalkers came stumbling out of an overturned trailer, scaring the hell out of me and landing a few shots in my chest. My armor ate up most of the impact, but now I've got a hole in my chest plate. I managed to grab the Jellyfish and get the hell out of there.

I talked to Sidorovich and grabbed a few supplies. I managed to also find some canned foods which will come in handy. My idea was to travel far up north to Rostok and meet up with Duty, but I ran into the Military roadblock. Obviously going that way would cause me to become riddled with bullets, so instead I just jumped the fence. GAMMA includes an addon to allow you to climb ledges and such, so it made avoiding conflict a lot easier.

On the other side of the roadblock, there was another Loner encampment fitted with a trader and a mechanic. For now this is where I call home. I found a secluded corner in the building, set up my sleeping bag and bought a vault to hold my items. I'm saving all of my crafting material which is very smart because you need a ton of it. I was able to fix up a Skorpion SMG which lesser worn parts. I still need to learn how to clean and maintain these parts... at least the weapon jam rate dropped to about 5% so it's much more reliable than when I found it. I smoked a cigarette, looked at the photo of my wife, then took a small nap.

When I woke up, I crossed over to Garbage and came into contact with another Loner camp. Upon arriving, a wild pack of hounds surrounded the camp and nearly took me out. Luckily there were about 4 Loners so they all helped killing them. One thing about GAMMA, Stalkers don't play around with their loot. If they had the final shot or dealt more damage than you in killing an enemy, they will seriously hurt you if you try to steal their loot. So, I left the hides and meat alone.

Eventually I crossed through Garbage and reached Rostok, the large abandoned city currently occupied by Duty forces. Thankfully they are friendly to Loners, so I was able to stop by and use their traders without getting shot. Here is where I got off for the night, but not without picking up a quest. My first quest in the Zone is to collect 8 Bandit patches. In GAMMA, you wear the patch of your faction. The idea is that you can switch patches to disguise yourself with a certain faction, and you can loot them off corpses. So, tonight, it's Bandit hunting season.

After spending some time in Rostok I realized that I made a mistake by placing a storage container in Cordon. Rostok has a lot more useful vendors and is quite central on the lower half of the map, making traveling to other areas very easy. So I climbed the large watch tower in Rostok, found a little hidden platform and set up another storage container there. I'll need to go back to Cordon later to pick up the supplies I left.

I traveled to Truck Cemetery. As the name implies, there are hundreds upon hundreds of dilapidated trucks, construction machines, tanks and even helicopters. Walking through, there aren't many enemies or an immediate sense of danger, but the atmosphere is strange. The rain piddles on the rusted tanks as you slowly trek through the long aisles of dead vehicles. It seems like anything can pop out at any moment, but it never happens. There are a few camps scattered around the area. To the northeast is a Bandit occupied truck stop. Perfect, I need a few more badges to complete my quest.

As I move towards the building, snaking between the broken cranes and box trucks, I spot a bandit on top of a tower scouting the area. Luckily he hasn't seen me yet, so I move closer. I don't see any other enemies but I know they're inside. I crouch behind some scrap metal piled against a tank and position myself perfectly. Clear shot of the scout on the tower, clear view of the doorway where the enemies may come, no one behind me, lots of hiding places to run to if things go haywire.

I take my Glock and land a headshot on the scout. Immediately, three more Bandits come rushing out the building, scattering around the truck stop. One down in the ticket booth. Got shot in the arm, now my aim is inaccurate. One bandit tried to rush me from the front, I dump 10 rounds into his chest. Last one flanks me to my right, lands a few shots in me. Headshot, he's down.

I quickly bandaged myself inside of a box truck, though I could have used a tourniquet. The bandage just isn't as effective at first aid, but it stops the bleeding. I sit and wait, listening for any other footsteps. Quiet, then faint footsteps behind the building. One more was waiting for me to loot the bodies before shooting, but I found him first. I sneak around the building, put two shots in his back and he's down.

I scan over the entire area once again for any remaining enemies. I peeked inside the main building, the ticket booth, and the open shipping containers, it's finally clear. Five bodies to loot, pretty good if I say so myself. Ended up finding a decent amount of ammo, first aid, some ibuprofen, a broken SKS and some food. It's like Christmas in the Zone. I break down all of their pistols and SMGs for parts. This SKS will come in handy later, but it's got a broken gas mechanism, worn out slide and barrel, and currently has a 25% jam rate. Completely unreliable in its current state, I need to repair it, so that's one of my main goals.

Heading back to Rostok, I stop by the Duty headquarters, turn in my Bandit badges, and get rewarded 12,000 credits. Duty likes me a bit more now. At this point it's about 9PM in Rostok so I head back to the watchtower, unroll my sleeping bag and drift off to sleep. What I forgot to do was eat before I slept, so I woke up earlier than I intended absolutely starving. Ate a few cans of beans, downed some water, smoked a ciggy, then went back to sleep. I wonder what adventures await me when I head back out.
