Show me your S***ty Battlestation

So, inspired by this particular article and the state my desk has been in for awhile now, I figured this might be a fun thread.

My desk has been in a state for quite awhile now, because I am generally just a messy person. My desk currently has some miniatures I started tackling recently, but is also piled high with computer components and tools from recent PC projects, as well as tools and parts from recent RC projects. I need to put stuff away and while I have storage for a lot of it, I need more storage still and a better method of organization.

Anyway, enough delaying, here it is:

Like I said, it's a disaster. Are you in a similar state? Maybe you're better organized and less of a mess than me, so let's see it.

Maybe this will be inspiration for me to get it straightened up this week, as though my wife's mocking wasn't enough.

At first, i thought either Warhammer figure painting or RC fixing/modding/repair and its both! I used to work in a model store and the guys backroom for fixing customers RC's looked like that but also my other friend who painted figures lol (the matt and then the bottles).

Also, Love Army of Darkness

So, for me, it started like this....Didnt have a desk but was fully diving into PC gaming: (remember SLI?!?)

Then, i upgraded a monitor to an ultrawide as payment for work which i gladly accepted because they were really expensive then, esp. this one. If you look below it, the same piece of board is now laying over a filing cabinet, with one (not in picture) on the other side:

Having such a crap station, it lead to this (board fell off filing cabinet)

And now, many years later, its a lot better lol, my living room is my battlestation:

I have been using a coffee table for a few years now to be my monitor stand, and my PC is too big to be on the same table so I have been using another box for it to stand on. There are advantages to wireless kb/mouse, PC doesn't need to be close by.

Before I got the coffee table I was using the Box the PC sits on. Its about 20 years or so since I had a PC table my monitors would fit on. I was never lucky enough to have speakers like DXChase to even use a stand. :)

I do plan on buying an actual desk next year, just need to replace the windows in my room before I get it. So I will continue to make do until then.

Those are some huge speakers! Wish I had that for my HTPC setup!

Yeah, all the hobbies. I do some minor soldering there as well. I'm hoping to finally jump back on to painting those models, as well as building some new ones this week, assuming the work I need to do to my other car doesn't take long. Which it theoretically shouldn't, but projects do have a tendency to go on longer than anticipated.

Do you sit further away in that case? I desperately need space underneath wherever my PC is so I can stretch my legs out and I feel like I'd struggle with that setup.

As for desks, I got mine at a thrift store for $80! It's a huge executive desk and I love it so much; I had been working on an old kitchen cable that I had sanded down and repainted, but it ended-up not being big enough once I started painting mini's. The desk I have now, I actually needed to shave like an 1/8th of an inch off the bottom of the feet just to barely squeeze it in through the doors in my house, plus partially disassemble it. It'll probably never leave my office.

My room is small, the only seating space I really has is my bed, so for the last 25 years I have used it. I never really thought to buy an actual Computer desk until earlier this year. I still haven't contemplated a chair as I probably just keep using bed now.

My mouse pad sits on a book next to me on the bed and the Keyboard on my lap. I am used to it now, to point having monitor on the other side of my bed would feel unnatural

its not ideal for gaming but I don't play many of those and I make do

Might get one of these once the windows are replaced
I will likely use it at its lowest height and yet it still might be above me a little. Will make a difference to looking down at monitor. Also give me chance to have two monitors...

room layout has been restricted by my speaker placement.. 5.1 speakers need to go somewhere, so always had two to my left and two to my right.
Once I get my new PC I won't be able to use the speakers anymore - that will come as a shock. They can't connect to my new motherboard and not wasting money on a soundcard. Surround hasn't really worked properly on windows for years now, I just had quad stereo really. Not sure if centre speaker does anything anymore... I know the sub does.

I am going to use my Wiim Ultra as my sound output for the new PC (via Bluetooth) and use my headphone amp to power my headphones instead of speakers going forward. If I can't cope with using Hifiman Arya Stealth and need speakers, I will buy some.
But that also means I have more space and don't have to avoid some walls anymore I will need the space for the table really.

I ended up getting rid of mine several years ago when I got tired of how it limited it made my ability to setup my desk. .

I don't play games like I used to anymore, but I don't really miss the 5.1. It was pretty sweet when I first got it, but it definitely seemed less and less interesting as time went on.

I won a set of these 23 years ago

They died 12 or more years ago now and my only thought was, I need speakers again.
Alas, they no longer made those and I had to make do with

A PC without speakers still seems wrong to me, but I will live. I told mum I give her the old speakers but I feel its probably overkill for her. This PC is already but oh well.
I mostly use mine to watch videos, music has been moved to a better source

I will just use those for everything

My setup is pretty basic. Ignore the dust and cat hair. Still using only one monitor, don't really have much use for a second one at the time. And it's not even a monitor, it's a cheap 32 inch TV from circa ~2013, so it doesn't look the best but it works fine. The desk is in the middle of the living room as the bedrooms are a bit too small to put it in there with all our other stuff. Brand new chair, same keyboard, mouse and headset for the past 5-ish years.

The desk was maybe $40-50 at Walmart, but when I went to the store to see if it was in stock, the guy came back and said they had one with cosmetic blemishes on sale for $20. So heck yeah I took it, it’s cheap particle board but it gets the job done. The bubbling you see on the left side happened due to me, most likely water getting to the particle board.

The chair is comfortable but not good if you have cats. They love to sleep in it and it catches fur like none other.
