Hey fellow gamers,

I recently started playing a new strategy game, and while I'm enjoying the experience, I've come across a mechanic that has me scratching my head. I'm hoping some of you seasoned players can help shed some light on this for me.

In this game, there's a feature called "Resource Management" where players are tasked with collecting various resources to build structures, train units, and advance their civilization. However, I'm struggling to grasp the most efficient way to manage these resources effectively.

I'm particularly curious about the following:

  1. What are the best strategies for prioritizing which resources to collect first?
  2. How can I optimize resource production and distribution to maximize efficiency?
  3. Are there any advanced techniques or tips for resource management that experienced players swear by?
I've tried experimenting with different approaches, but I feel like there's still a lot I could learn to improve my gameplay. If anyone has insights, strategies, or even just personal experiences to share regarding resource management in strategy games, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for your help and happy gaming!

What are the best strategies for prioritizing which resources to collect first?

Play the map.
Work whatever resources you start with, and pick a research sequence to exploit those. You will start with some research done, o work those resources at the very start—eg you have Agriculture tech, build a farm or two.

How can I optimize resource production and distribution to maximize efficiency?

Learn the boosters for each resource-gathering tech and try to get as many as you can. Efficiency usually comes into play when your city population approaches the current limit—that's the time to take citizens off food tiles and switch them into specialist slots or onto mines.

You generally want a balance between food, production and money, so try to have all of those resources being worked.

Are there any advanced techniques or tips for resource management that experienced players swear by?

It must support your current game plan. You must always have some plan in mind, even if it's only short or medium term, eg:
♣ Grow your empire's population;
♦ Focus on spreading your religion and building culture;
♥ Wipe out the other civ on your continent.

♣ means focus on food and new cities;
♦ dictates which structures and units you'll prioritize;
♥ = focus on production resources and pump out military units.

Seek to get resource trade deals going with civs you've met.

Money is the most flexible resource, as you can use it to buy units and territory, and also to upgrade your military. I like to keep a big bank if I'm nervous about some neighbor—so I can upgrade my elite older troops if they declare war.

Don't forget to play one more turn ;)

start with few enough rivals that there won't be anyone else on my continent

Me too usually, let me build and don't annoy me :D

That's also a good way to learn various aspects of the game, without being distracted by outside events. @Hari1234 make sure to look in the Custom Game section of the main menu, where there are tons of options for making the game you want to try.
