See how much money you've spent lifetime on Steam...

Thought this was such a disastrous idea that it needed it's own thread:

Yes, I checked. Yes....it's bad. But a more interesting thing is the average that I've spent per game is $18, and I'd assume that's been dropping little by little.

You can find it in the Steam client by navigating to: Help > Steam support > My account > Data related to your Steam account > External funds used.

CYBERSECURITY WARNING If you use the same username here that you use on Steam, I don't recommend posting your number. You could become a target for phishing and other scams to try to steal your account.

old spend = 234.07USD
Total spend & PackageOnlySpend = 805.44USD

"TotalSpend" is the total amount of external funds applied to your account. This value is used to determine if an account is a "Limited User Account".
"OldSpend" is the amount of external funds applied before Friday, April 17, 2015 18:00:00 UTC.
If your account was linked to Perfect World for CS:GO or Dota 2, "PWSpend" will be the approximate USD value of funds applied from Perfect World, otherwise that value will be zero.
If your account has applied external funds in Steam China, "ChinaSpend" will report that total, in RMB.

I don't think Oldspend is included in total

I feel like I can assure everyone that whatever your number is that it won't be as bad as mine, so don't be as embarrassed as I am and refuse to post the number

If everyone else plays along and posts theirs, I might reconsider.

However, I think it's worth warning everyone that if people can track you down by username on Steam that posting a large amount could be a cybersecurity threat. If you are using the same name here that you are using on Steam, I don't recommend posting your number.

Never mind. Several commenters on the article page have higher amounts than I do, so I'm no longer that embarrassed about it: $27,188
At least you have something to show for it, and it keeps you happy/occupied.

In the last 20 years I have possibly met that cost with PC parts, most of which I no longer have/use.

There are worse things to spend money on. At least you not addicted to phone games.

I am a bit sceptical about the links calculations because it says i have used steam for 13 years but i know that wrong because i have been using it since it first came out in 2003.

Anyway..... it says i have spent £ 1139 with equates to £6,074 i have obviously deleted some games that have had server closed down and my current list has 88 in it and compared to some players thats a small number , i dread to think how much some players have spent.

Curious where you guys are getting "Old Spend" from. Do you mean the Account Value?

Account Value: $3161
Today's Prices: $11570
Average: $16.98

This is definitely ballpark. A lot of those games I got in Humble Bundle, so they were certainly cheap.

But apparently, I've played $2469 of that $3161, so that's not bad. More than I thought, though I'm guessing they're including games I've started-up for 5 minutes and then never touched again.

You didn't read the entire article. You looked at the SteamDb approximation, but Steam has its own page where you can see exactly how much you spend:

I see and I definitely did not.

Old Spend: $2400
Total: $6543.97

What's Package Only Spend?

So I guess then, I'm adding Old and Total, since Old is prior to 2015? So almost $9000?

So about $450 a year, considering I've been using steam for 21-years this year. That doesn't seem terrible.

About $4200 over 20 years, so about the same as @McStabStab per year.

You can also see a history of every purchase somewhere in that account help page.

I don't think you add old and total together, total already has the old included. Otherwise, @Pifanjr would have a larger old spend than total spend.

P.S. Thanks to @Pifanjr for having a child so that we could test numbers out in this topic. That was REALLY thinking ahead! ;)

Colif posted about Package Only Spend earlier:

Appears I was wrong

This row includes the portion of the account's total funds spent that could not be transferred. For example, a hardware purchase, gifted game, or in-game item does not count toward Package Only Spend, but a game purchase for your own library would.
