Question PC upgrade / New to PC building - Please help!

Hi Guys,

I'm relatively new to the PC building world and still struggle to understand what parts are necessary and what is overkill!

My PC is around 3/4 years old and I appear to be having some CPU issues when playing games like MC. I have been doing some research and it seems as though upgrading my CPU is the solution. I have also been running MSI afterburner and my CPU usage is very high and keeps spiking between 80%-100%.

For context I am trying to run MC with shaders and texture packs and would like to increase my frames and overall smoothness when playing the game without compromising on the graphics.

I was wondering if you guys could advise me on which CPU I should look at and possibly what other parts I might need?

TBH I would switch out your RAM with a set of 2x8GB DDR4 3200 before purchasing anything else. It should make a noticeable difference.

Your system will run smoother. As far as frames go that would mean an upgrade on your gpu which would most likely mean a new psu.

Front intake fan, one fan on top and a rear exhaust fan. ^^

Considering your suggestions it seems as though the solution is to build an entirely new PC. For which I would probably like to do some future proofing and bump up my budget to £2,000. What would you recommend for this budget?

I'd wait until early January when Intel releases the locked 13 gen cpu's along with the B760 boards. Most all of the B660 boards are being run out of stock as the board manufactures get ready to release the B760 boards. A lot of those boards will support DDR5. The price of DDR5 is dropping on an almost weekly bases.

Something like this.

Intel Core i5 13400F £200 (if I had to guess)

B760 DDR5 ATX motherboard £150 - £180 (price depends on VRM's and audio codec)

I'll use this set of DDR5 as an example but expect it to be significantly cheaper come January.
