Is this a decent start off pc for my son the only down side I see is that ram is only 8gb and 2400hz and also the small ssd

For £719 is it worth it
 
for the price it looks good, ram is £30 for a 2nd stick you can add at anytime, the ssd is for the OS and the 1TB is the main storage
So just put another stick of RAM in and should be OK for him.

It's not a bad system. As Boon said, another 8GB of RAM should be fine, ATM I'm running a 2600, 1650 OC and 16GB and it handles most things fine on an ultrawide LG 29" monitor, and that's a respectable price for the PC
