Hi all,

Always had a 'hand-me-down' PC and never bought and specced my own but now the time has come! Woo!

I mainly play FPS or MOBA games. Looking to play on high settings with over 120fps.
Budget circa £1000 gbp. I already have all peripherals I'd need from my current set up.. (running with an AMD FX 6350 and GTX 770)

Ideally looking at:
Ryzen 5 3600x
RTX 2060 (Super? or not?)
16gb RAM at either 3000 or 3200
Msi b450 tomahawk max
2tb HDD
250gb m.2 nvme SSD
650w PSU

Any suggestions on the above? Any advice totally appreciated as I'm a novice when it comes to specifications... is it overkill? how future proof is it? etc

Thanks in Advance!

Are you building it yourself or looking to have it custom built / bought off the shelf i.e. assembled for you?

What monitor will you be gaming on? What is the resolution and refresh rate? If you are upgrading the monitor what is your budget for that?

Ideally off the shelf as I'm not experienced in the building aspect of it and wouldn't want to damage anything...

Currently on an AOC g2460 pf 144hz Monitor..don't plan on changing it at the moment..

Seems solid, be sure to go for 3200Mhz RAM as the Ryzen processors benefit the most from good fast RAM.

RTX 2060 Super is quite better than regular RTX 2060, but also more price'y - but even that should give you enough performance for your use. Potentially you could save a bit by going Radeon 5600 XT instead that seems to still offer good performance in mainstream and esports titles.

The big question is which FPSs? There is a big difference between CSGO and Battlefield V.

Ah yeah good point!
I play quite a wide range, CSGO, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, R6: Siege, Overwatch, PUBG. hopefully at some point Valorant!
I also play every now and again GTA, Fallout etc.. and hopefully whatever the next Elder Scrolls is!

I get a 2060 super may be a little overkill for some of the above but ideally looking to not upgrade for 4/5 years

A 2060 Super is overkill and tbh I'd say is over the line of what's worth spending for 1080p gaming. Moreover, spending a lot extra on a GPU to try to futureproof often doesn't get you far. The performance difference is modest versus the price difference, which means by the time X starts to struggle, Y wouldn't be far behind, and you'd have £80 less in the kitty for an upgrade.

It's also probably not realistic for a £1000 budget where you're going for a balanced pre-built PC, with the other bits you wanted too.

You didn't say if you needed a Windows licence within the budget. If you do, that's £80 or so to allow for that.

The only 2060 Super PC ebuyer listed under their gaming PC subsection was £1400. I guess it's either out of fashion or out of stock.

I would suggest an SSD larger than 240gb for games - unless you already have a 1TB one or something that you're planning to add.

Other places like Cyberpower, Scan, DinoPC, etc do custom specs too, and I'm sure there are plenty of other stores too, but hopefully that's a decent starting point.
