That said, I'm in a different position than you. I have no real income, so I gotta make due with what I've got and my budget is considerably lower, so used just tends to be my go-to. But I'm also just kind of a freak and like all things second hand.

At the end of it all, buying new is just wasting money when you could reuse something before it ends up in a landfill. I'm not above using used at all, though I do enjoy the peace of mind knowing something you bought was brand new and warranty is nice too. If I do end up buying brand new hardware, I'll be sure not to let my old ones go to waste. The RTX 2060 would make a perfect budget 1080p HTPC, I could pair it with my old Ryzen 1600X but would want to replace that soon, I've seen Ryzen 5600 on eBay for under $100 which would be a massive boost. Thankfully I bought more RAM before all the prices skyrocketed so I'm good there too.

I played some more Cyberpunk 2077. I'm still really enjoying the gameplay, but I've noticed I prefer doing the side jobs, gigs and NCPD jobs more than the main missions.

I remember someone praising Cyberpunk 2077 for how the NPCs move around while talking to you and while it is indeed more immersive, it would be really nice if the button that fast forwards through dialogue also fast forwards through the pauses between lines.

The main missions also keep making me go through platforming segments. I don't think platforming has any place in a first person shooter.

I finally pulled the trigger on a new graphics card. I ordered a RX 9060 XT 16GB. It was a little over MSRP, $380, but it’s an XFX Mercury which is their “high end” line of these cards equipped with really great cooling so I think it’s actually at base price for that model. It’s also OCd which adds to the cost. The card is absolutely massive though. Guess I won’t be getting to that mATX build I was talking about earlier.

This will be my first triple fan card in probably 10 years, and my first new card in 6, and my first time ever with an AMD card (actually had one briefly circa ~2010 but was replaced shortly after so I don’t have much memories with it). It was time to upgrade. My RTX 2060 is a beast still at 1080p on games older than maybe 3 years, but it’s struggling with new games and won’t be able to keep up for much longer. I don’t care too much for RT or path tracing so that’s another reason why I got this card over the 5060 Ti, price aside. FSR 4 is a massive improvement from previous gen’s so that’s also nice to have.

This is a huge moment for me. I’m very excited.

I've got PSU's (quality ones, I should note) pushing 10+ years at this point, so I wouldn't stress too much to be honest.

I dont know man. I had an old Delta PSU blow up and take out my motherboard almost 20 years ago. At that time I couldnt afford to replace it so I just didnt have a gaming PC for a couple of years.

I wouldnt buy a PSU now unless it has a 10 year warranty, and I wont use it after it expires. Just replaced mine last year.

Speaking of graphic cards, i think its important to read this:

It also disables USB functionality on RX 7900 series Type-C ports.

it seems like Radeon has stopped updating, providing drivers for older radeon cards which isn't great. especially when Geforce drivers still work with old cards etc. So if your card is slightly too old, no driver support. it kinda reminds me of my first experience with a radeon card .

i would consider maybe a 4070 Super but damn it, looking on ebay they go for prices that i might as well go for a 5070 instead.

Yea thats not very good. Nvidia just dropped full support for 2000 series, so theyre supporting older cards than AMD now. Not long ago it was they other way around by quite a way.

Theyre still doing security updates at least so its not like theyre bricked.

I had three recent missions that required me to climb and jump to progress. Only one that made me do a bunch of it, but still.

I don't mind if you have the option to do some parkour to get to a better vantage point or grab a reward, it would make sense since there are two pieces of cyberware that improve your jumping capabilities, but two of the three missions just gave me a linear path to follow that required jumping a gap successfully to continue. The third one I probably could have backtracked, but the jump did make it much faster to get out. It just took me a bit to figure out how to get there.

The entire battle is more like a series of infantry on infantry skirmishes, but it still looks better than I thought it would.

@Pifanjr, part of the gameplay made me think of this excerpt from Snorri Sturluson's Heimskringla (Saga of Olaf Trygvasson) at the Battle of Svolder year 1000.
The Serpent (Orminn Langi in Old Norse) mentioned in the quote refers to the Viking ship built for Norwegian King Olaf Tryggvason, which he used in battle. It really showed some of what could only be described as a frantic battle!

I've had similar, but it was an Antec PSU and it was also like 20 years ago.

I dunno, I'm just not that worried about it, I suppose. I have very old computers still functioning totally fine, including a ThinkServer TS140 on its original PSU without any trouble.

PC hardware seems to have gotten pretty robust in the past 10 years or so.

My two best cards are 6-Series. Thankfully, I'm not the type to play the newest games and need optimizations for them, but does make me reconsider any future AMD GPUs. I think the 6-series is only from 2022, right? And it's roughly on par with the Nvidia 3000-series, which is still widely supported.

Played Arc Raiders for the better part of yesterday and will be doing so today. Im sure my hype will come down and ill diversify back into my other games but Arc Raiders is so fun right now. I was worried about the PVPVE aspect but honestly i wound up working with people over shooting them. I had my scuffles with people, ive killed, ive died but it doesnt come close to the PVE part or working with other players.

I extracted in one game with like 8-10 people on the lift, we just all linked up and moved across the map killing arc. It was pretty fun and i havent had a PVP experience like this in a long time. You dont need a mic to do it either, the emote wheel has all the callouts youd need to show you werent a hostile, which is really nice.

The maps are huge, the sound of the environment, the game, the enemies is all on point and the shooting feels very weighty. Solid game.



So, the new Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection launched yesterday to...mixed reviews. My complaint is that i ordered a Limited Edition version of this game and i didnt receive a code for the release yesterday. Come to find out i have to wait until i get my LE which wont be until December 12th.

the upside to that is the game released in a (somewhat not suprised) buggy state so hopefully by that above date, most of those will be taken care of.

The ports are buggy, missing sounds and sprites etc. Things that actually matter when you release a collection of old games. There is also talk of huge input-lag which is terrible but i havent played it yet to test that theory.

You should know that Bannerlord is a pretty slow game. You really have to work yourself up from basically nothing and it takes quite a while to build up your skills, money and army. Though from what I've read there are some shortcuts you can take. Apparently the smithing skill is kind of broken and allows you to make insane amounts of money, but I have ignored that part of the game entirely so far.

This is how I think about it as well. I'm so afraid of a PSU shorting out my other components, and it would be a bummer if it just died. It's working just fine so I really don't need a new one, but I think a new PSU will be my next purchase as I can get decent ones for under $80. This PSU was a part of the original build in 2019 so it may be time. I think it only had a 5 year warranty also. Plus I'm still at 600w, enough for my rig but a little more headroom would be nice for peace of mind.

My RTX 2060 is still getting driver updates every month, so it's quite disapointing to see AMD doing this especially after I just bought my new card. Not that big of a deal to me though, I'm certain I'll get a good 5 years out of this without issue.

This looks amazing. One of the more fluid pirate ship battles I've seen in a game.

Oh, I know. I've played a bit over 10 hours of it and tried several times to get over that hump. It ends up being this repetition of getting some dudes, fighting other dudes, then having a major set back and having to start all over again. It's why I never got very far.

Same thing happened to me in Warband.

That's exactly what happens to me each time I try to play Bannerlord. I got a good couple hours in, but that beginning grind and monotony is what makes me lose interest. I know if I stick with it I will eventually have more fun but first impressions is important to me in games, I need to be hooked pretty early on to stick with it longer.

I tend to think even it doesnt blow up then it can go out of spec over time and cause extra wear on other parts. Every 10 years isnt so bad to replace it on my main and only system.

For a secondary HP pc or maybe one for my kid with hand me down gear I might be more flexible

Id say its time, Toms has a decent guide on PSUs they update every so often. I also check out Hardware Busters as that dude goes above and beyond in a way I appreciate. No one else doing the tests this guy does anymore.

Yea 6 series is really new. Not a great look at all, even so like I said earlier its not like they arent usable anymore, they just wont get optimized as soon as things release. I understand they might get a bit of love still here and there over time, theyre just heavily on the back burner.

Its a bad sign for AMD graphics. They were already at historic low market shares and this isnt doing them any favours in mindshare. I'm sure 9000 series will be alright for some time though, I think those cards should have sold better than the reports have been saying because theyre pretty good overall.

I would recommend just not losing battles, that's been working great for me (after a restart and not counting bandit hideouts).

Hopefully the ship combat will make the start a bit more interesting, but I imagine you'll need some starting capital to get a ship.

The path of exile league has started so i might dip my toes in that game once more depending on how things are. having started yakuza 5 i'm not exactly motivated or available to play POE atm. rewards wise, its nice i guess but not essential. if i was to play i'll probably get the 28 again, get the torso armor and call it quits.

Twitch rewards are up so i guess i'm walking away a winner with free stuff. So i will leave a window open whilst i faff about doing chores. The additional pet from earlier was a nice prize as well. On top of that, Christmas is coming up so we might get a free loot box. only problem is that much of the tat isn't to my tastes, but i'm game for some of the more appealing stuff. But lets face it, if i unlock torso armor either via the league or from free lootbox, i'm going to be happy.


speaking of yakuza 5, still plodding along with a variety of side activities playing. I'm still focussing on the taxi missions, the quality has nose dived as i'm not getting any active driving missions. Just spending time chatting now. With the world map pretty tiny, i guess the chances of adding much variety isn't going to happen so driving to the same stops is going to get tedious. Will try and rack up more cash and try and do some of the side content like dating orplay the arcade games a bit. or karaoke games.
