Tencent might buy Ubisoft

Before they went for the big fish A-B, I was 'sure' MS were going to buy Ubi. If the Guillemot family didn't control the voting shares, Ubi would've been sold long ago. They only barely fended off Vivendi's takeover bid last decade, just after V had successfully taken over the other Guillemot games company Gameloft.

Tencent are now the biggest outside shareholder as far as I know and seem to be protecting Ubi as well as bringing them into Chinese market, so there's a good chance you're right—there's something going on under the sheets there… but as said, there's protection ;)

Tencent might buy Ubisoft... its about right value

:D

I assume you know Tencent vie with Sony as the biggest game company in the world—MS make up the big 3—so plenty of value to be had in reality.

Hey everyone, what games have you been playing lately this October? I've been diving into Bus Simulator Indonesia and it’s really satisfying, especially with the new mods that let you customize the driving experience even more. What games are keeping you all hooked this month?

As of right now it is still not at the carrier, UPS (i got a tracking number the day they said that it shipped!!)
USPS might just be slow to pick it up. I got shipping info for something I am waiting on showing it was ready to be picked up Thursday 4.41pm and it only just showed up on the USPS system at 1031pm on Friday night. Yours aren't hopefully flying around the world though :)

I think my keys used to stick on my K70, its why I replaced it really. Can only take all the keys off so many times to clean the dust from inside caps. I have no idea if there is any dust in my Nuphy, One day I might take keycaps off and look.

Sounds like you’ve had a better experience than me though. It’s been two weeks and I haven’t heard anything from customer support about my ticket for tech support. Some of my K95 Platinum keys are physically sticking even after really deep cleaning the entire board+keys, so I put in a support ticket about it. No response at all. I hope you get your RMA done soon!!

Well, i wrote that i was gonna write them again. I did yesterday and got no response! UPS still says they havent gotten the keyboard yet so i guess i have to start over monday.

Seems to be mobile-only?

I had to chase my delivery too, mainly as the shop sent email saying it would be sent out on Monday. When I hadn't heard anything from them on Wednesday I asked them and they figured out the order was waiting on something, but it should go out Thursday. It then proceeded to sit at their shop until Friday and then when USPS got it, it showed as being recieved by them but seemed to be staying in same place all weekend. I had looked a few times in the last 24 hours, but no change.

After I gave up on mine sitting in same place all weekend, its sneakily been transferred to Dallas and is now in Louisville. Judging from previous delivery, its next step is likely Hawaii. Probably arrive in Australia today sometime, on Monday since it will cross international date line and lose a day... I wonder what time the pilots set on the plane. Probably changes as they fly.

Its a public holiday here today so it can take its time. It won't be going anywhere once it arrives. Not until Tuesday.

Next to playing Yakuza 0, I have been enjoying honor mode in Baldur's Gate 3. In this mode, you can't reload a save while in the game world, so if you die, you die permanently. Bosses have more deadly attacks, like this one from a boss fight later in the game: "A curse will be put on you, and if you don't kill a character within 1 round, your character dies." That is brutal!

I'm now cautiously navigating the Underdark, one of the locations you encounter before Act 2. Already I almost exploded a quest giver, potentially bricking a fun-throwing build, so moments like that are both stressful and a lot of fun.

Didn’t play too much this weekend apart from Minecraft. We’re trying to find an Ancient City which is a specific biome hidden deep beneath mountains that are full of great loot but also some of the deadliest mobs in the game. We’ve never been before but from videos we’ve watched of it, it seems quite scary. You have to be very quiet, a lot of people even resort to bringing wool blocks so their footsteps will be quieter so they don’t alert the main enemy down there called a Warden who relies on sound to find you.

We’ve also built up our city a ton. I’ll take screenshots next time I can and share them here. I built a pretty neat little house that I’m proud of, it took me nearly 2 hours to complete the whole thing. We took over a pre existing villager town and just built on to it. We made a large stone brick fence all around it, built a massive witches tower that has a Nether portal at the bottom, made a man-made lake for fishing and boating with accompanying bridge, and a few small houses here and there. It has turned out great. Using an already existing village to build your on top of is my favorite way to make bases in Minecraft. Not only do you get all the building there already to make it feel more natural, but having the villagers roam around also is really useful. I just found out you can level them up and they will give you items as rewards. For example, the Cartographer gives you a map to a Woodland Mansion which is a huge mansion in the woods (obviously) full of good loot and strong enemies.

Anyways, Minecraft has been fun but I do want to get to some of my other games. I really need to beat Yakuza 0 the most, that’s first on my checklist. Next would be to keep playing more Rogue Legacy 2, then move onto my next story game which I haven’t decided yet. Alien Isolation would make a great October game…

USPS are not showing their best side. My package seems to be stuck in a limbo, now they showing it be delivered next Tuesday?? Its at a main centre but been same place for over 36 hours. I ordered the thing a month ago, wouldn't mind using it.

I hate waiting on freight and yet I am waiting on 3 now. At least two are in my country.
rethink buying from US at this rate.

I finally beat Ascension 4 with The Defect and got my first win against the heart of the spire:

I had a great combination with Consume removing an orb slot and giving 3 focus (which makes the remaining orbs stronger) and a relic that gave me an empty orb slot every two turns. I also had a bunch of relics that greatly helped me survive, like a relic that gave me 1 buffer at the start of each combat (reduce unblocked damage to 0 once) and a relic that reduced each incoming damage by 1, which helped a ton against the passive ability of the heart that does 1 damage for each card you play. I also had a relic that did 3 damage to an enemy every time they attacked me, which is also great against the heart because it has an attack that hits 15 times in a row. I even still had 2 potions that would revive me to 30% of my health if I did die.

I started up Baldur's Gate 3 last night. Spent some time in character creation. Maybe a little too much time. Hey @Frindis, is it normal for the mind flayer to be snoring by the time you finish setting up your character and guardian? ;)

I'm playing tactical difficulty. It looks like there's an achievement for killing off that 8th level demon guy in the tutorial, but I couldn't get him down below half health before the rest of Hell broke loose.

You probably spent so much time in the character creation that you killed half of the mind flayer colony because of the lack of brains for them to consume. Fun fact: Most Mind Flayers consume a brain once every two weeks and they succumb within four months if they do not get the nutrients and psychic energy.

As for the snoring part, I do not believe they are capable of snoring because of how their mouth is shaped and their lack of nostrils. They do sleep though.

Nice, that's a perfect difficulty. AI is a bit more clever and not just HP sponges, which makes the fights more rewarding.

He can be a bit tricky to kill on higher difficulty.

Made it up to what I think is the final stretch of Pillars of Eternity 2, picked my side and locked out the other factions quests. Then I started exploring the map a little and decided to stay longer. I like the little story sequences and events that happen on the world map and theres a good variety of them around. The combat is more fun now I upped the difficulty a notch. Ended up with Eder, Aloth, Tekehu, Konstanten, and my character which makes a party of a wizard, druid, chanter, a ranged rogue and a tank. Its a lot of fun, Ive been using Konstanten as a summoner and half tank himself to distract and support Eder while he dazes everyone and tanks, while Aloth and Tekehu lay down AOEs and my character damages and debuffs dangerous single targets. Theres a lot of different useful abilities to choose from and the larger set piece encounters allow for interesting choices.

Its not perfect, using turn based mode sometimes the combat will hang a bit, and some basic fights are a bit boring on standard difficulty when winning is inevitable. Thankfully you can up the difficulty in options at any time and also choose whether level scaling is applied to every fight or just the main quest which is nice. Options Arent Always a Good Thing :p but in this case it suits the game well.

Not been a fan of the scripted ship combat, but only tried it twice Its kind of turn based text deal. Didnt really inspire me to learn how it works, more fun to just board the enemy and then fight them in standard combat. Mostly I just avoid it by running away.

Ive liked the world and the story quite a bit. Without spoiling anything theres some interesting stuff with the gods and their conflicts and origins. I think the only real problem is that I havent really found any of the NPC party members all that interesting, so I havent been tempted to go far down their side quests.

The combat for me in the bigger encounters is on a par with Baldurs Gate 3, although it isnt quite the same thing. Its also a much drier world than Larian creates, but theres something comfortable in that in a nostalgic way.

I cleared Ascension 4 with The Watcher using a mantra build, which I hadn't used before. I had underestimated just how strong it really is.

I've read that level 5 is a fairly high jump in difficulty compared to the previous levels, since you no longer heal to full health after each boss. Considering how often I beat a boss with a sliver of health remaining, this might become a problem...

Haven’t played anything besides Minecraft these past few days. I’ve been using the updated Copilot app on my phone and it’s been super helpful. The new update makes the results show up almost instantly, so whenever I need help making something or how to do something, I’ve been resorting to grabbing my phone and asking it. I’ve learned so much about the game using Copilot it’s become integral to me whenever we play now.

Right now our main focus is repopulating our village. I think there were a few dark spots that were spawning mobs, which then went and killed all of our villagers. I had to build a boat and find a village a few minutes away, then made a contraption to get the villagers on the boat to be brought back to my village. At first I dug a massive pit with a long tunnel that lead to the water, but the villagers were being extra stubborn and not wanting to get pushed down the tunnel. I could get them into the pit easily, but now down to the water. So I filled the thing with water, used the tunnel to make a little river, so now I can easily push a villager into the pit, get them on a boat then transport them. I have to make sure to close the tunnel so they don’t escape.

So far we’ve brought back three villagers and are trying to breed them. Copilot says to feed them a ton of bread, which we have but they aren’t in the mood to do anything. Maybe because they have just been kidnapped from their homes, separated from their families, then forced to live on an island that is inescapable, that could be a reason. Maybe over time they will be in the mood to do it, but for now they are kind of running around like they’re scared of us.

Ive barely played Watcher. I think it was added to the game later and it plays much differently to the others. Apparently its the most powerful character by far once you know how to use it.

That would explain why I have two characters stuck at level 5.

They released a mobile version of Balatro, supposed to be a really good port. Ive been playing it again on Switch again, its a really well made game all the little card animations and music are really well done. Playing a hand and watching the score go up faster and faster the more effects you have on Jokers and cards is satisfying somewhere in the depths of the subconcious.

I've just been alternating characters every time I beat an ascension level, so they're all at level 5 now. I'm currently doing a run with Ironclad that's probably not going to end well because my only source of defence is 5 Apparition cards. It's a matter of time before I run into something that doesn't die in 5 turns.

When I get bored of Slay the Spire I might check out Balatro. I doubt I'll get around to playing it on PC, but it does sound very interesting.

Kind of did that most of the way, Ironclad is at 8 with Silent and Defect at 5. Ive been playing it since it released on Switch, usually end up getting into it for a while when I fly somewhere. Gets harder to get back into every time because I always dip back in at wherever I got to before but Ive usually forgotten most of the things that got me there.

Its really good, there are strategies but it feels like sometimes you can luck totally into winning depending on the Jokers that show up in the shop, where with Slay the Spire I dont think its as easy as that.

Basically it simulates the feeling of pushing the buttons on a slot machine and winning, except when you have an upgraded deck and the right Jokers (buffs) to apply score multipliers it gives you that feeling every time you play a hand.

That's interesting - I would expect it to have some issues with games and updates. Copilot is probably going to try to work with most common/popular answers, which might not make sense anymore if a patch changed the balance. Though it should work a lot better for a game that comes out and barely gets patched.
