Hey guys, first post so I apologize if I am not asking this in the right forum.

I would like to get into PC gaming for the first time, but I do not know anything about PC parts. I don’t have the knowledge about building a PC but I am learning ever so slightly.

this is a PC I have put together :

I have a budget of £760 including the monitor and not windows because I already have windows sorted.

Thanks for your help in advance.😊

Hi and welcome! You did quite well, but I think we can do a bit better.

The I3 10100 is quite comparable in games to the Ryzen 2600 and comes in a lot cheaper allowing us to spend a bit more on the most important part: the graphics card.

The B460 board will unfortunately only allow the RAM to run up to 2666mhz but the 3000 kit is the same price as other 2666 kits so I left it there. Just enable XMP when you set it up and the board will do the rest for you.

You will definitely need to invest in more storage as soon as possible, but 500 GB will get you started. I also stuck with the Intel stock cooler for the CPU. It will be fine, if it proves to be a little loud for your tastes you can pick up a better cooler for 20-40 down the road to quiet things down.

Cases are very much a matter of taste. I picked a case I have seen reviews of that I know is decent quality that will keep your parts cool enough and working. If you must have the RGB then obviously do what you can for the price :) Just try and at least find a couple of decent reviews for whatever you look into, and make sure the GPU fits too.

Otherwise the monitor has decent specs for the price, review here .

hi Kaamos thank you for the feedback I forgot to mention that I preferably would like an AMD chip but if the intel chip is better or just as good I will stick with it.

I have heard that graphics cards and processors have to be linked about equally and are the I3 and the MSI graphics card optimized for each other?

could I go for a Ryzen 5 3600 and change the graphics card possibly.

I forgot to mention also I have some removable hard drives.

I also might be doing some editing possibly in 4K but mostly in HD.

Thanks for the feedback again🙂

Long post coming up, sorry !

Its actually not the best time to be building a system as stock levels are low on many components and pricing can be all over the place day by day. I'll say now that if you can wait a couple of months it may settle down.

The I3 and the RX580 would work together perfectly. If you've heard something about SAM then don't worry its mostly marketing. Scroll to the bottom of that article for a handy graph that shows its a small benefit and at times can actually make things slower it seems. For perspective, you can think of it as 10% better FPS then 30 FPS means 33 FPS. If your talking 100 vs 110 you probably still cant tell the difference.

Its true that you should have a balanced system, but with current pricing fitting in a Ryzen 3600 breaks that balance at your budget.

For example for gaming, at 1080p the I3 in TPU's suite of games is on average around 5% slower then the 3600.

Whereas the RX 560 vs the RX 580 is significantly less than half of the performance, on average in TPU's suite of games.

If you have specific games you are going to play forever, then say and we can look into what performs better in that specific situation. I'm making recommendations based on averages, because I assume you'll want to play a bit of everything.

If video editing is something you will be doing a lot of and is the main focus of this PC, then the 3600 will probably be a better solution. AMD's chips are much better for productivity, even at the same core counts as Intel currently. I believe some video editing software does also require a powerful GPU? I dont know to be honest I just play games :D It would be easy to Google about if you're planning on using a specific software package, or someone else here might know better about that.

STOP THE PRESS!

Theres a deal on for a RX 580 at Currys for 199.99. I've paired it with a Ryzen 1600 AF here. This Ryzen 1600 (12nm) is actually the same as a Ryzen 2600 but slightly cheaper. Dont ask why they did that, but it happened.

You might notice I dont pick the absolute cheapest motherboards and power supplies, I try to pick the cheapest components that still look to be of good quality to still fit your budget.

Thanks for your feedback.

I am wondering how much more a pc with the Ryzen 3600 would be in comparison to the one you have made. this is including a balanced system with the optimized graphics card bearing in mind I might be doing editing, rendering, and possibly animation.

The 3600X is that much more. However the 3600 is the same chip with a slightly slower clock speed, and costs this much at the moment, the story might be different soon though as deals come and go.

hi @Kaamos_Llama,

I noticed that in PC Part picker it said " Warning! These parts have potential issues or incompatibilities. " I scrolled down and it said you might need to do a BIOS update are bios updates easy?

is this a balanced system aswell?

thanks

robotdog

You can ask the store to make sure that the BIOS is updated for 3000 series chips before they send you the motherboard, it shouldnt be a problem.

Basically most of the B450 motherboards were released some time before the 3xxx series CPU's. This was so long ago now that I would think all of the motherboards in stores would be updated already.

I think it is quite a balanced system, yes.

Yes it does. I know its nerve wracking spending a lot of money on parts for the first time. Make sure you watch plenty of tutorials on Youtube for how to build before you start. PCG has one, I'm sure the bigger Youtube channels like LinusTechtips and Jayz2cents have them too.

With a Ryzen 5 3600 as close as I can get it to 800 without using dubious quality or otherwise deficient parts, for today at least. Had to drop down to an RX570 and a smaller SSD, as you said you have other drives for storage. You can still fit some games there, depending on the game. COD Warzone maybe not.

Not 100% sure on the monitor TBH, but its LG, has freesync and is an IPS screen, which generally have better colours then alternative TN based screens around the same price.

I have to say you would get better value and performance in games dropping down to a Ryzen 2600/1600af. At that point you could still fit in an RX580, and the CPU as illustrated in the Techpowerup link I provided earlier is much less important than the GPU in most games most of the time. You'd also get 500GB SSD and a much better quality PSU. Like this.

I also forgot to ask if you will need a wifi adaptor? if you arent able to run an ethernet cable direct from your router to the PC you'll need one. You can get a USB one for quite cheap though, if needed we can wangle down the PSU again if its pushing the budget too much.

Also note that you might want to pick up a couple of extra front intake fans for the P300 case to keep things cool. The Fractal Design Focus G is decent around the same price but comes with two fans, but overall the Phanteks seems the better case IMO.

Hard to put together a build at the moment, doing my best, but if other have ideas then obviosuly they are obviously welcome to offer options :)
