Hello All, thanks for clicking to this thread, hoping for a little advice from those in the know.

Simply, wanting a desktop PC, general use, not gaming as such, more video editing ( probably not much in the way of 4k editing ).

I dont want Apple, and budget would be..at best £800 or so ( and then of course a monitor on top of that etc ). Not intrested in building own , just ideally want,

SSD 1TB
Intel i7 ( i think there are different types..even i5 might be ..better in some cases? )
Memory 32gb
Windows 11 - i guess -
4 Core - perhaps

Amazon, Argos, Currys, youtube videos...bit lost really...ACER?

Anyone recommend -as you can see, really just want a PC which will...work..no real bells,whistles...just something thats a bit uptodate, bit of power....

thanking you in advance.

Thanks for the reply, and that price tag is tempting, i see you said I5 ...so...I5 is ok then.

Only issue is, this is all build your own - i really dont want to go down that road, and literally just 1 purchase - fool and his money i know .

My one concern with this, the 2nd link which 'why me' kindly posted is the casing/build isnt a branded make? used to Lenovo, Dell etc etc..so...SCAN - am i buying something thats been pre-built? by who? will it do the job -or am i better off just going to Currys and getting something there, branded? Very tempted,. and sick of looking tbh, i want it too run something like Premire Pro for editing..and like i say, on occasion 4k.. but likely just clips from my phone to edit etc

I mean it doesnt appear to have a DVD tray, need to look if it comes with a keyboard etc etc...

Sorry. replying again, as looking at specs, reviews etc and i see that recommendation given, RTX 3050, is dating back to Feb 23! and also in laptops!! so..just how good is that ? i know my budget being £900 max (for pc alone ) isnt the highest but would of liked something decent. Is this decent?

It says minor stuttering in some games. And works ok for 1080p ! - I am looking to edit ( some 4k ) footage, the last thing after is something that will stutter when trying to edit. Been there/done that years back and the thought of going back to those days no thanks!

I currently have a GTX970 . old like i say. But would like an decent improvement.

I have been looking and will continue to look at specs etc thanks again.

hi, WHY ME,. but that may be the cheaper alternative, but thats exactly the opposite of what i want to do. I want the off the shelf pc in a box. And looking on SCAN, my question is - whats the maker of these? I dont mind going to SCAN, but that graphic card mentioned, is it up to the job of editing 4k? happy with that spec and price in that 2nd link i was given..so long as all i need to do is get it delivered and press the on button.

I don't know much about Scan prebuilts but you want 32GB of RAM for sure. Ebuyer UK sells prebuilts as does PC Specialist but PC Specialist PC's don't come cheap.

If it helps to ease your mind about Scan, theres a reason you'll find enthusiasts will often recommend those kinds of systems over more recognizable brands pre-builts. Big brands often use proprietary components that build in planned obsolescence as well as usually adding on a price premium for the privilige. Scan uses off the shelf parts that anyone can buy and use. This means that in the future if you want to drop in a new graphics card or other component it will be much easier to do.

Ive lost count of the number of times someone comes in to tech forums asking if they can upgrade their Dell or whatever and its not possible because theres no space or the PSU is too small or not standard ATX size, etc. They dont want you to upgrade, they want you to buy a whole new system every 3-5 years.

You wont find many, if any systems with disc drives anymore. If you need one of those for any legacy software you can get a USB external drive that works just fine.

As far as mouse and keyboard goes, whatever you have now will work with the new system. It doesnt look like the Scan model comes with anything extra.

The RTX 3050 is kind of the lowest budget Nvidia card available now, but the laptop RTX 3050 is not the same as the desktop version. Confusing I know.

However the RTX 4060 is quite a bit more powerful, almost twice as many FPS on average as the 8GB desktop 3050.

Appreciate the replies, but no-one has really gotten the gist of what i am asking for, simply put, a off the shelf PC akin to Dell or the like, which is good enough for editing 4k. Thats it. Tried amazon ( weird sounding pc's ), Currys, Argos etc SCAN i am waiting to hear back from as per previous helpful reply, so i might plum for them. Although my main question has not been answered - maybe you dont know yourselves? and it's all about build your own - but surely someone can point me in the right direction.

As mentioned, even the link via Scan suggested using RTX3050 ...thats hardly best of the bunch is it? or..is it? budget being £800 - £900 max ( without keyboard/monitor ) i think is a decent enough chunk of cash to get something thats able to edit and have a bit of power -even off the shelf. Currys, just seem to have thin laptops, all very small looking desktops.

I wont keep emailing, as might be wasting my time, other forums perhaps - maybe this one is too for gaming or like i say build own.

Just about any $800-ish gaming PC you buy from Amazon or Newegg or wherever will be perfectly fine.
It sounds like you're doing more for hobbyist reasons so just buy the best you can get with your requirements and within your budget.

Here's a random choice from Amazon I just searched. Most others in that price rage will be comparable to this one.

thanks for the link Jan Ghost -it comes up as US though, but at least its good to know that the lower price tag of £800 will be ok. I see that ones you said was I5 though.
Yeah, there will be variances. Some might have 16gb of ram, some might have I7s, some might have 30 series cards. Just search for a specific thing- like RTX 4060 or 32gb ram or whatever. For what you need you don't have to get overly cautious on what you buy as long as it has what you need and isn't badly reviewed.

If you want to know who builds Scans PC's, its Scan, from off the shelf parts which they also sell.

People making pre builts are not really offering 32GB or RAM in systems under a grand, and 32GB is generally recommended for 4K video editing if you search for it. I agree £900 is a lot of money, but we are talking about desktop computers where its at the lower end of the budget range really, especially if you arent willing to build it yourself. Nvidias lowest end current graphics card the RTX4060 costs 250 quid on its own at best, and prices rise steeply from there. You want a GPU for video editing.

@January's Ghost Has a point here though, youre probably overthinking it.

This has decent specs, AMD is no longer a poor cousin to Intel. If you want 32GB RAM, you may have to pay a technician to swap it out for you, I cant find any systems within your budget that include 32GB, sorry.
