My 11 yo grandson has asked me to upgrade his pc so I can gift him some games he wants (what's a grandad for after all?) Below is the current configuration which needs to be upgraded to i7a-7700K and GTX-1080. What do I need to accomplish this (new motherboard needed, etc)? He plays with Oculus Quest VR and looking to play "The Wizards Dark Times VR" , "Boneworks", and "Asgards Wrath".
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated so that I can maintain my "hero" status in his eyes!!

I understand that the ''recommended" levels for those vr games is what you wrote at the top but To be completely honest, your CPU (i5-4690k) and GPU (GTX1060) are capable enough to run VR games off that computer. You can check this buy installing Geforce Experience and having that program run diagnostics on your computer to tell you whether or not its "VR" ready. For perspective, Asgards Wrath works fine off my pc and i dont have an i7-7700k (im using an i7-4790k)

My personal opinion, those components are worth replacing, though if you are going to buy a new gpu i would go with a 20xx (2080, 2060, 2080 super etc.) or 30xx series card (if you can find one) because the card will last longer in terms of other games set to come out.

Also, really just need to buy one of those GPUs and your son will keep you a hero in his eyes imo lol.

To be clear, he can already play with his existing VR games on this pc, but looking at minimum requirements of the games he now wants, the question is do I have to replace the mainboard to move up to an i7 (if actually needed to run these new games), and if so what would the recommendations be?
