After the other thread, I think I know what you are looking for, and I've pretty much looked at everything I could find, and I think this game on GoG, which describes itself this way "Captain a wide variety of unique sailing vessels, explore and trade whilst combating enemy ships in frantic naval action," is probably your best bet.

The first game that comes to mind is probably sid meiers pirates! Essentially you are a pirate/privateer who spends time attacking ships/being a pirate and trading goods with factions you're friendly with. Take part in some diplomacy, romance and revenge as you try to find your family.

There's a ton of seafaring trader games on Steam. I doubt anyone could specifically weed out what you're looking for. Best bet is to search on Steam using keywords like ships, trade or naval, economic, or similar combinations of words.
