I'm looking for a game I remember seeing a video of the devs talking about. The concept was a group of people forced to flee into a monster infested wood. It was supposed to be multi-player and you were supposed to build the town up while surviving intermediate waves of monsters attacking it. Looked colonial period from what I can remember.

I think I saw it around the 2013-2017 time period. Location? I really don't know. Survival horror is correct. I remember it was supposed to be a new face to the industry. Also asked a friend and if they respond with an answer I'll post it.
Okay. Friend came through it was Grimmwood. Seems it was shut down recently and the Devs booked it.
While it's not the same, you should look up a game called night is coming on steam. It combines town building with survival horror. It releases early next year
