For an actual first time player I would probably recommend something simple like the Telltale games. And then you can go from there, see what you like or don't like.

Do you have a computer with a decent video card? Those are needed to many games.

Goto start menu and type sysinfo look for the graphics card adapter and see what you have. That way you can see if you have the specs to play the game you want.

Next head on over to epic games, download their launcher and make an amount. The give away a game or two every week. It's a great way to try tons of different games.

Also there is a thing called games pass. You pay once a month and have access to over 100 games.

If I were you id do both of those as you can really try a ton of different things while you learn what you like. Games vary so much

There is also gog which has lots of older games which are almost all classics and being older they run on anything for the most part. They also have a good 30+ you can get free. Might I suggest flight from the amazon, a classic point and click Adventure.

You can also check out humble bundle, the have a monthly club were you get about 10 games a month for 12 bucks and have another 100 or so you can just download and play. The also have bundles for 5-20 that have a bunch which changes all the time

Lastly if you have amazon prime, they give away a few games a month as well. Just install steam and link the acount to prime and start collecting. Steam also has a lit of free games as well.

Plants vs zombies is indeed good to learn to use a mouse as a controller and it´s fairly easy to begin with.
