How to be a moderator

I am in england and am retired so i have a lot of free time , i know that people in different countries and time zones use this site this means some people may need answer whilst moderators are asleep

Typically moderators are chosen from long-time members of the community and selected for their maturity in dealing with difficult posts. They are appointed on an as-needed basis and are selected with the approval of the incumbent moderators.

You can’t request to become one, but if you show exemplary patience and maturity, and have been a helpful, contributing member of the community, rest assured that it will be noticed and taken into account when new moderators are needed.

What? Us mod bots never sleep.

Mods aren't here to answer questions, any more than any other member. Our main jobs are sweeping the floor and taking out the trash—answering is just a happy byproduct since we're here a lot and some of the other mods actually know a thing or three.

Which means… please keep answering and commenting anywhere you can, it's a great help to all.
