Has a patch or update broke your game.

First let me say i have not had a problem with the following games.

BLACKSAD , Crystal Rift , Beyond a steel sky , Satisfactory, i am sure i could add more to the list if i revisited some games.
So heres the thing , i completed the first 3 with no bugs or crashes .... Satisfactory is still a work in progress.

Then all of a sudden i see loads of players saying , always crashing , black screen , full of bugs , unplayable , i guess you get where i am coming from.

So , the only thing i can think of for the problems that playe rs eventually came up against is that i completed them before any patches or hot fixes were applied.

Has this happened to you on any games.

I've had patches break some games, but it can really be all over the place.

Sometimes patches come out and break the game for everyone, but sometimes a patch can come out and only happen to people with certain software or hardware installed.

Like maybe a certain graphics card, or driver version.
Maybe ya got a certain cd rom and mouse and for some reason the patch that comes out makes you crash if you're using them. So if you change your mouse or cd roms.... then it will work. It's happened to me one time. That was a really fun time hunting down the solution.

I think an update to Defenders quest: Valley of the forgotten has broken one of my saves. initially it was slow performance and then it just didn't work properly.

Planetside 2 whenever they did updates or patching things never always went to plan. namely the constant crashes, lagging and the like. But thats kind of expected with any patching in multiplayer games these days.

Windows updates have to deal with 20 trillion different hardware combos so its no surprise some don't always work for everyone but they mostly do. I used to help people fix windows problems and for most part there are more videos about problems than actual people suffering from them... the win 10 EOL last month, for instance, didn't cause the apocalypse (yet)

I haven't seen a BSOD on my own PC in about... 5 years or so now. I recall getting one when I was trying to get win 11 early but that was my fault for not reading instructions. Its a long time since I had any problems caused by windows updates, but I have had to repair windows update itself once before on my last PC. I haven't ever clean installed windows 11 apart from onto a new PC. Windows was reporting this PC was having BSOD but I never saw one... was a mystery at the time. I just decided to ignore it.

I've been lucky and haven't (noticeably) experienced a game update or Windows update breaking the game for me. Definitely so when I have mods installed, but that's unavoidable for any game until the mods are updated for the latest game patch.

I do get afraid when I hear people talk about Windows updates breaking games or causing your PC to be all wonky. I use Chris Titus's Windows utility and there is an option to disable all feature updates for 2 years while allowing security updates, so it's given me some peace of mind after I switched to Windows 11 a few months ago.

The only couple of times I have gotten the BSOD screen was a year ago or so when Xbox Game Bar/Xbox Gaming mode (something like that) did something funny to my PC, and when I stopped the service completely, PC ran fine. Besides BSOD I had some audio issues with the volume icon locked in place, making it impossible to adjust volume, but I found out that the reason was an old audio driver, so updating fixed that.

As for games, I have experienced NVIDIA drivers doing weird stuff with games, but very rarely and quickly fixed by rerolling or just getting the latest update. Nothing game breaking patch wise from my recollection, so most likely just minor hiccups and annoyances for me.

I've had my Skryim SE break because of a patch. Don't think it was bethesda's fault necessarily but everytime they released a patch update it would break skyrim script extender and every mod related to it (which then again may not update towards the new SKSE) and therefore keeping my game broken.
