I feel like a lame duck: I installed an AMD 6700 xt Saffire and there's no signal to the monitor. Switching bact to old gpu on dvi I g have a signal. Yes the saffire is on hdmi with display cable . I switch monitor back to hdmi. Currently seeing an OS load problem. So, a duh question , does a new gpu need an OS to start life in my pc?

No you don’t need to reinstall OS when installing new GPU, however it’s highly recommended to fully delete old drivers. But that may not fix the issue if the new card isn’t giving any signal to monitor.

Do the fans spin, and lights if any turn on? Can you confirm the card is getting power at all, just not a signal?

What OS load problem are you seeing? Windows doesn’t boot with new GPU, or what is it specifically?

Also, since your old GPU used DVI and new one uses HDMI, are you sure your monitor source changed to the correct port?

Its possible it might help to remove the drivers before swapping cards
With old card in PC
Install DDU - see link below
Go into safe mode
run ddu and remove either Nvidia or AMD drivers (whichever card you had)
turn off PC
swap GPU and see if you get a picture this time, as it should use the basic display drivers built into windows until you get into windows and Windows update should grab new drivers

Another question, What Power Supply make/model do you have?
Specs of PC would have helped.

I've been using the old gpu on dvi cable and up until recently the win.11 OS was normal, then out of the blue, the pc goes to uefi/bios, with asrock code ab(

There are two distinct fails the OS fail to load, and the new saffire gpu doesn't produce a signal to the monitor on the display hdmi cable.
Switching to the old gtx 750 on dvi I watch the MB finish the bite ck. then the pc boots to the uefi bios screen
I think the ssd carrying the win.
I merged your last 2 posts, they still don't appear complete :)

I don't think I deleted any of the missing parts. Just tidied it up a bit.
Thanks

I laid the phone and didn't finish it think the ssd holding the OS has failed so I'll replace it and load a clean install of win.11 on the nvme.

The brand is virtually unknown here, but its owned by Colorful who are a Massive Chinese part maker so it might be okay. I just can't prove it

In most cases it helps to buy PSU from a big name brand.
How about each manufs. color code, gold for ex.?

I am in Australia. Microsoft thinks that is part of UK but its not.

I don't know if your PSU is cause as its an unknown, I saw reports it works fine.
Gold is just an efficiency rating.
Gold or higher generally have better parts and longer warranties. My RMx1000 has a 10 year warranty. Its one of the few I would consider moving into another PC depending on how much time I have left on warranty.

Think the OS fails to load due to malfunctioning sata ssd. 'Have both old 750 and new 6700 installed. Switch between dvi on the gtx 750 and hdmi in the Saffire 6700. Been away from the pc- waiting for new data ssd
Think Saffire gpu will oper. once OS working.
Presenty only fans turn on 6700
