Hi everyone,

I have been looking at seriously investing in a bit of a 'future proof' gaming PC which would double up as a bit of a multi purpose home life admin PC to replace my current set up. My requirements have changed somewhat and I currently own the following;-

Lenovo Y530 with Intel Core i7-8750H , NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile, 16gb RAM, Storage. 1 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD + it's connected to an Acer VG 240Y Monitor via HDMI.

I have been playing around with the custom specification tool on PC Specialist after being recommended this website by a few friends who have purchased some PC's at different values/specs/designs. I was hoping to show you the specs I had build below and then ask a few questions if possible..

My overall budget would be around 3,500 including any potential monitor upgrade that may be required (I am looking at the Gigabyte MU27 unless there are other recommendations).

I think this build is more than adequate for my needs but I had some questions for people who know more than myself...

1) I couldn't really see a mega difference betwen the 14900KF and the normal 14900 in the Intel build?
2) Is it possible to drop down to something like an i7 13700 KF or i7 13700 without throttling the GPU or decreasing performance in the Intel build?
3) I really want to stretch to the 4090 GPU but the budget might not allow it, is there an obvious error with going for the 4080 in the Intel build or the 4070Ti in the AMD build ... would it be better to go for something lower and then wait for the 5xxx series?
4) Is the RAM adequate and is the config of 2x32 the best option?
5)Is the HDD set up optimal.

Way back in the AMD K6-2 500 days back around 1998 - 2000 I was able to build a PC and along with my trusty RIVA TNT2 I could take on the world of gaming quite confidently, unfortunately some of the more advanced nuances like cooling, overclocking (not that interested in) and some of the more modern technical aspects I am not that understanding of.

Any advice on tweaks as well as the questions above would be most helpful!

Why Are You Upgrading: I have come into some money and want to treat myself.

Budget: 3,500 approx.

Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP but not in a rush, would rather be patient and have the right spec/set up.

Use Case: Gaming & life tasks.

Are you buying a monitor: Yes (I think for the quality of PC an upgrade on monitor is required).

Your Monitor Resolution and desired frame rate: Max quality for the price I want to pay for the PC.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts? Not fussed.

Overclocking: ? I don't have the technical knowledge for this.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum :)

Pesos? Yen? Roubles?

What country are you in, and any preferred retailers you'd like to buy from?

Hey, sorry that was £3,500 in GBP. I don't really have a fixed preference but ideally someone like PC Specialist as they would build it for me as well, if not I can order components separately and there's a local supplier who can do the build.

If your primary use will be gaming then I would go this route. btw I would think about a 27" IPS 1440P gaming monitor. That way you maintain a high frame rate. Otherwise look at a RTX 4090 for 4K gaming.

Thank you for both of these suggestions, I am going to go away and review the items you've selected and read up on some of the differences etc..

No doubt I will have some questions so I will most likely be back with those, haha :)
