Hi guys,

So as per the title, I am looking to build a new PC that is relatively high-end and somewhat future proofed so that I will not need to rebuild for the next 5 years or so.

Why Are You Upgrading: Having used 2 gaming PC's over the last 10-15 years of gaming and spent a large portion of those years suffering poor performance after a few years of use I am now in a position to go all out and build something fast, powerful and long lasting.

Budget: £2,000 - £3,000

Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP

Use Case: Gaming. I play a variety of games such as Rust, CoD, LoL and plan to delve further into open world games including future releases which I aim to play at the highest graphics level. Additionally I would like to create and edit videos and potentially stream later down the line.

Are you buying a monitor: No, already own a AOC G2590FX 24.5" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor. Although I am open to recommendations that might better suit my new setup.

Parts Preferences: Not particularly, I am open to suggestions.

Overclocking: Do I need this? Not entriely sure I understand the purpose of overclocking but if this would improve performance and lifespan then I would consider it.

PC PartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i7-13700KF 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor (£394.99 @ TechNextDay)
CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX 75 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£188.13 @ TechNextDay)
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard (£447.86 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory (£176.99 @ TechNextDay)
Storage: Crucial P2 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (£164.16 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Asus TUF GAMING GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB Video Card (£1299.98 @ Scan) or MSI VENTUS 3X OC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12 GB Video Card (£865 @ Orbit)
Case: NZXT H7 Elite ATX Mid Tower Case (£179.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair RM750x (2021) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£118.83 @ Amazon)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Home OEM - DVD 64-bit (£108.87 @ TechNextDay)

Total: £3079.70

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks,
Conor

Size up on your psu. If you play first person shooter games then I wouldn't size up past 1440P. If you plan on using a single M.2 SSD then I would look at a B760 board. These 13 gen cpu's are pretty much pushed to their limits out of the box meaning you won't see much gain from overclocking.

Corsair RM850x (2021) 850W 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply £130.46

ASUS ROG STRIX B760-F Gaming WiFi £262.48

Intel Core i7-13700F £362.96

Processor Base Power: 125W
Maximum Turbo Power: 253W

Processor Base Power: 65W
Maximum Turbo Power: 219W

The difference between the locked 12 gen i7 and unlocked i7 was one FPS on average. I doubt it's any different with these 13 gen cpu's.

I'm just using this Asus 4070 Ti for an example but you can't go wrong with any / either 4070 Ti / 4080 imo.

RTX 3080 Ti MSRP: $1200
RTX 3090 MSRP: $1500
RTX 3090 Ti MSRP: $2000
RTX 4070 Ti MSRP: $800
RTX 4080 MSRP: $1200
RTX 4090 MSRP: $1600

Thank you for your response!

I've had a look and made the changes you recommended and also made changes to the case.

Considering the case doesn't come with any fans, what would you recommend in addition to the CPU cooler?

If you're really trying to future-proof, then I suggest sticking with the 4080 if you can swing it. Just because you're using 1080p right now doesn't mean you might not want to go higher in the future. You might even connect to your 4k TV at some time. If you go all out on a system, but only buy a video card with a vision for 1080p, you're going to be very sorry later. So if you can, I'd stick with that 4080 you have in your PCPartPicker build.

Yep, going to stick with the 4080! Thanks!
