Doom: The Dark Ages

So im at about stage 6 with 100% completion on nightmare difficulty with 110% game speed. Im thinking about boosting it because im kinda flying through it tbh. The whole system of "heal yourself by being aggressive" really pays off if you do it right. I still have a lot left to play so obviously unforeseen things can change this, but it feels really nice.

I like what im playing. Im taking it kinda slow because of other games having limited-time events going on atm but it is different from other Dooms and i can see why people would prefer those over this one.

So, for specs and fps, running 4080super/12900k at 4k with DLSS on quality and everything on ultra nightmare; 120-180fps. Natively? 55-70 fps. So id imagine a 5080/5090 will absolutely crush this game but it currently doesnt have path tracing but is coming, so FPS will be changing.

I have also had 0 issues with the game too. No crashes, no hiccups. There are some weird ways the game launches itself and i think some animations hang up? When you die, it just stops you in combat to say you died, then you die a death when you say yes or no. It seems off to me, but the game runs really well.

I personally like the new lore and the story of it so far so if you dont then youre going to see this game less than i do.

I also like the perks, the digital artbook has some amazing images and the soundtrack is cool but that statue, the aesthic of the game just clicks with me personally.

All in all, I'd say that if I were more of a shooter guy that I would be pretty pleased with it.

As one of those guys, i am. I love smashing my way through stuff even if it feels rinse and repeat. The shooters like this game of ages past from quake, unreal etc. to doom all felt the same way i feel here while also adding a fresh take on how Doom plays.

And no Multiplayer

Doom was absolutely not a MP game. It came later sure, in a fashion but the Doom franchise is a SP experience.

I played the original Doom campaign solo first, but in the early 90's I and some friends started pretty fast to use serial/coax for playing multiplayer. For us, Doom/Doom 2 was pretty much about getting frags, just like it was with games like Shadow Warrior, Quake, Blood, Redneck Rampage, Outlaws, Duke Nukem 3D to mention some of them.

I don't believe the modding scene was too big when I first got Doom, so I think that the evolution of the mods also made the SP more interesting in later years and that the MP was what really shined in the early 90's through LAN events and such.

I did not like the multiplayer in the later Doom games (2016/Eternal), in those I enjoyed more playing solo and looking for secrets. It was also pretty amazing with the update for original Doom 1/2, but I don't see that many people playing multiplayer or co-op for that sake.
