I installed ExoDos last night. Only messed around with a couple of games, because it was 11pm and I was beat, but I tried some Adult slide puzzle game I happened upon, which was amusing in its low resolution boobie pictures and then I tried a game I've always meant to, which is Quarantine. A sort-of...Proto-GTA thing where you drive a cab, pick up fairs and shoot other cars. I only tinkered with it for a couple of minutes before heading to bed, but I'm interested in messing around more. One issue on the PC I installed it on though is that fullscreen doesn't run properly, so everything was Windowed. I'll have to install it on another PC and see if it works.

I also completed my latest run on Darkest Dungeon 2 finally. I find it sort-of amusing, because Monday or Tuesday, I was so mad at the game, complaining up a storm to a friend of mine. But recalibrating my thinking and how I approached it, my next party build went so smoothly, I made it all the way to the final boss of Chapter 2, which I've never even gotten remotely close to before. Not only that, but I beat it on my first try and earned the most amount of the resource for unlocking stuff I ever have. One character did die, all of them had meltdowns and the rest were close to death, but the boss was on its last legs and I managed to crank enough damage out to finish it off. Go figure.

Hadn't realized this was out yet. It's definitely something I intend to check-out. I think between it and DOS, I could be content for over with my Potato quality Surface Go as a laptop.

I'll have to wait until next month though, maybe. I think I'm already at least halfway through my 1.2Tb Datacap for the month.
 
I restarted Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden and it's going a lot better now that I have a better grasp of the mechanics. However, I stumbled upon a group of 4 enemies where I couldn't pick off any of them, I had to fight them as a group.

I could kill one of them on the first turn, but after that I had to save scum as only two hits was enough to down one of my guys and I needed to hit three for each of them, so I was at a clear disadvantage. And they were directly in the way of the only way forward to the next quest area, with no other unexplored areas left (afaik), so I couldn't just ignore them either. I feel like I missed something since it doesn't seem like save-scumming should be the answer there, but I couldn't find any other solution.


Today my wife roped two of her friends into playing the Roblox game 99 Nights in the Forest with us and our kid. It's honestly a surprisingly good survival horror game (considering it's free that is) and it was a lot of fun doing it with 5 people, though we hit a snag when my kid got disconnected and couldn't get back in, which forced us to restart. There's also no way to save your progress, so when we had to stop for dinner we lost all our progress again.

Ah Exodos, got involved when someone asked the forum to help. not played it much since then admittedly, but its one of the greatest gaming preservation projects ever and along with the other EXO projects . not played quanratine, but did watch Ross scott's accursed farm video on it:

i need to get into Dos games myself. but not atm with so much backlog on steam. I might consider playing dungeon master series or lands of lore series ( i believe one of them has patrick stewart in it as the king). Might play some puzzle games as well depending my fancy.

I just picked it up over the weekend after all the hype surrounding it. I've been interested and have had many friends praise it, but I never play turn-based games. I ended up refunding it... $40 is too large of an investment on something I'm not sure if I'll even like. I bet if I gave it an honest shot I would like it, but again I never play these kinds of games. The closet was Like A Dragon but that is much more palatable for someone like me.
 
It's been the 12 days of Gearsmas for me so far this holiday season. After beating Gears of War 4 on Inconceivable mode, something I'd held off trying again after giving up not being able to take down the Vulture cargo plane in the escape sequence early in the game, I finally got past that beast.

I also just beat Gears 5 on inconceivable. The hardest segment in this game for me is usually the part where you have to escape the mine after you get the phosphorous canister. It's because your hovering bot Jack has to carry it. This means you can't manually use his skills offensively either.

To make matters worse, the enemies shoot at Jack if he is not behind cover, and of course if that phosphorous gets too damaged, kaboom! He also tends to zoom forward into the fray once you've cleared what appears to be the last enemies on the way out. This is when a couple Elite Grenadiers come marching in, along with several Juvies.

So you're stuck having to go in close and hope you can kill the Grenadiers and Juvies before they do enough damage to Jack to blow the phosphorous. I had to retry this segment a few times, but to my surprise, Jack somehow did enough damage to them with his passive Shock ability to make things manageable for me.

The strange thing about Inconceivable mode in these two games is, while the enemies can bring you from full health to near death with a single burst of their assault rifle (even from quite a distance), your weapons are also that powerful against them. So basically you take way more damage than on Insane mode and can die a lot quicker, but you can also kill them a lot more quickly than on Insane mode. So basically as long as you pick good spots to shoot from, use cover wisely, wait until they reload, and blind fire when rushed if there are others shooting at you as well, it's very doable.

So now I'm revisiting Remnant II after picking up the Dark Horizon DLC, which I've read is very good. I had a confusing moment while finally updating my 42" LG C3 OLED firmware, which the update message onscreen says takes it from WebOS 24 to WebOS 25, but Remnant II's main menu wouldn't respond to KB/M inputs anymore. I ended up chatting with LG about this and their annoying support guy just kept insisting it's a firmware update, not an OS update, despite me telling him twice the update message on the TV said it was an update to WebOS 25.

I ended the chat with him when he said I needed to do a factory reset, which means you have to redo ALL your Picture Mode and other settings. I Googled for the Remnant II problem I was having and apparently it's a common thing. The workaround I found most common and useful in my searching was to go to AppData>Local and delete the cache folder there. Sure enough that made the main menu of Remnant II respond to inputs. I had to first change the res from 720p to 2160p before I could even launch the game, but that's all that was needed.

Before I play Dark Horizon though I am going to reroll The Forgotten Kingdom DLC in Adventure mode because I want to get the good ending and bring Lydusa back to her whole form. I've already battled her when she's "Shatter Split", and it's a hard one to get through.

I also now have leveled up my Summoner archetype to where I can use 2 Flyers or a Reaver instead of the two Minions I was using before. The Reaver is more powerful, and can throw a big axe at great distance which kills or severely damages most enemies, but I am going to try the two Flyers against the Stone Warden boss Lydusa tasks you to get her "precious thing" from to heal her. It's because when the Stone Warden recharges he goes up high on a perch while he sends rows of his army to attack, who stay attached on long sliding stones. This way the Reaver won't get killed by the sliding stones, and the Flyers will be able to attack the Stone Warden on his perch. If the flyers aren't powerful enough, I may have to try to keep the Reaver safe by directing him to safe spots where the long stones don't slide, and just have him throw his axe at the Stone Warden. The Reaver is dumb and slow though, so I'm not sure that would work well. His axe also often gets stuck on walls or other obstacles if he isn't in a clear spot when you order him to attack, and those safe spots I use are by walls.

I played it on Gamepass, though I guess that's not as cheap as it was.

Its a great game, the complete package all round.

If I still had GP I'd definitely check it out, but $30 a month is too much for something I rarely use. I miss when I could just make a new account and get 1 month for $1! The game itself seems fantastic, I can see all the love, creativity and artistry put into it. It is clearly a labor of love, and I'm so happy the people who made it are getting the recognition it deserves. It's just a me issue... I can hardly stand any turn-based game, no matter how much they try to make it non-traditional. Like A Dragon kept me playing because of the story, I'm a sucker for Yakuza games. I just think I need to wait for a deeper discount to really check it out.
 
My kid and I played some Supermarket Together today, a free supermarket simulator. It's pretty decent considering it's free, though so far I've been stuck as a cashier the entire time.

We just hired our first employee to help with stocking, which is nice, but I'm not entirely sure what I'll do once we hire one as a cashier as there isn't that much more to do.

Still, my kid enjoys playing the manager and hitting people with a broom, which is the most important part.

I'm into this. Harebrained Schemes have been really good at story and art and this being such a departure from what theyve done before and after all that happened I would think its something theyve made because they really wanted too.

I wasnt feeling Lamplighters Leagues look. I heard it wasnt bad, but it surprised me that Paradox went nuclear on a studio that made quite a few good games in a row after one minor miss. Hope this one does well, wishlisted and thanks for posting it.
 
Ok time to show my steam replay


Got to say its been a rather bland year for me. much of it spent playing POE. A huge chunk of the year was Assassins creed valhalla. but with no more asscreed games , i suspect that i will be focusing more on my steam collection this year. i might play Ghost recon wildlands and since i don't have the DLC, it should be one or 2 months tops.

its been a fairly strange blend of grimdark, scifi and zombies apparently. mechanicus being my third most played game is a bit of a surprise.
 
I started up a topic for Replays since that's what we did last year.

Dragon's Dogma 2 seems to be winding down... but I don't trust it. DD1 was winding down, too, and then pulled a fast one by replacing all the enemies in the world with higher level ones and stuck a big hole into the capital city.

A poor kid that got raised by bandits got thrown in jail. I bribed a guard to get him out, and he promptly walked off to pout. Oh, better go talk to him... and he's worried about getting a job. He doesn't want to go back to a life of crime, but that's all he knows. Hmph - good point. I don't know what to do about that. Oh! But the dialog options do! Seems you can work at The Myrmecoleon? Whazzat? Well, it's the only not-bad option, so sure, pick that. He's happy, pays me money (somehow), and leaves.

OH WAIT! That's the brothel back at the capital! The 'kid' is in his late teens but... oh well. Situational ethics for the win.

Oh man, this looks awesome! After going through hell and back with Paradox I'm just glad to see Harebrained Schemes survive through it all.

My wife and I played that before since it runs pretty decent on her low-spec laptop. Once you get into a loop of it, the progression can be a bit addicting as you try to unlock all the upgrades and employees.


Had one last paid day off so I used it yesterday, played a ton of Stalker GAMMA and Arc Raiders. Arc Raiders just had an update that adds snowy environments to some of the maps as limited events. It's pretty neat and not as brutal as I thought it would be, but the part of the update I liked the most was the introduction of a Cinematic graphics level. They essentially added a new tier of graphics setting higher than the previous Epic setting. It really does add a nice clarity boost to the game, especially textures and view distance. I just thought it was kind of interesting because not many games put out an update to increase the graphics fidelity, unless it's a remaster.

I do enjoy the sense of progress and actually running the store, but I'm not sure my kid does. She has been doing a pretty good job at keeping inventory, but she also spends a lot of time hitting people with a broom and trying to get me to play pretend.

She really loves making up scenarios in every game we play, which means we often stop actually playing the game and just act out whatever she comes up with.

I hear its pretty good from the gmanlives review and it looks lovely with its hand drawn pixel art i would probably wait a bit as its apparently quite a short game, but no idea tbh.
