Everyone getting their controllers ready? Me, I'm ready to make macros for my mouse and tear this joint up.
Had it charged and cleaned since yesterday. It was a bit dusty, don't use it that much anymore.

Funnily enough it's a Starfield branded Xbox Series controller, perhaps the last game I was this hyped for, and the last game I preordered. Good thing it didn't turn out to be a bad omen.

What is odd is that the tag line is different in what you linked than what is showing on the site now. When you posted, it said "The most fascinatingly obtuse game ever" or something like that, now it says (on the site) "The Forza Horizon of Action RPGs". Those two statements are astonishingly different.

You mean the tag line that now says "A game that tries it all, even if it's not always a success."?

Future pet or stew, I dunno. But, I'm keeping it!🙂

I don't really play at night anymore. Finished what I guess is the prologue and will pick it up in the morning.

Default controls seem to be confusing and complicated, so she recommends a controller unless you are willing to go through with rebinding keyboard controls. I wonder how that will work for @Zed Clampet , as I still prefer keyboard as long as the controls work good.
Well, I couldn't get one thing to work at all until I created a macro for it, so I'm at least a little skeptical at this point that its playable with m/kb unless you are willing to make macros. I have no idea why it wouldn't work without the macro. I was standing there hitting the same two things over and over and nothing. Made a macro for it, and it worked instantly. It might have been a timing thing, in that they had to be pressed very nearly simultaneously, and I apparently wasn't doing that, but that's just a guess. Everything else, so far, has felt good except that you move really sluggishly imo.

Alright, then. I'm assuming they have a good reason for rotating those lines, probably something to do with SEO. Maybe search bots think the article has been updated, so it gets ranked higher.

Put up a very quick video showing off performance of the game. With FSR 4.1 it runs very great for a midrange PC at 1080p. I averaged around 70-75FPS, going down to about 60 in heavily populated areas then up to 80 and beyond in the wilderness and open areas.

No stutters or glitches, but there is lots of pop-ins, mostly debris/foliage. In one review I read it is apparently an intentional trade off to not have stutters. I would say I prefer the way it is, stutters gets very annoying after so long.

The pop in is not something you can fix, its how the engine deals with high quality assets. Even on a top spec PC with a 5090, and on max settings, it still happens.

That was mentioned in the last video I linked.

Storms next two days so maybe by Sunday I can play game. I don't like playing when I might have to stop playing due to a storm. So I just don't. Its only really a problem in Summer and hasn't really been a problem much this summer.

I haven't had 1080p for 10 years so I see how it goes at 1440p. I wonder what it will default to in settings.

I bought this. First game that wasnt a seasonal or cosmetic i bought this year.

Ive played a total of....1 full hour. Tough to squeeze a good session in between 12 hour shifts oh and the wife obligations of course 😭

It looks great. First and foremost. It shines in ultrawide on an oled and seems to running pretty well for me. Gettin ~110 fps at max bell and whistle with a 4080super even with its denuvo.

The combat seems ok, i didnt get into anything heavy except that very first "boss" encounter so i cant speak too much on that yet.

The VA is....ok, story seems fine so far nothing hear to write home about.

My biggest gripe is the controls and i gotta agree with most people that they are clunky and you cant really change controls.

Theres also too much goin on when you want to exit the game and theres no difficulty slider.

Im gonna def stick with this because i want to fly around on a dragon.

There's so many things in this game that make you go "oh yeah this was made by MMO devs" and to me that isn't entirely a bad thing. I can look past the slightly mediocre voice acting and quest design and the obtuse puzzles. Some of the character animations during cutscenes are quite janky, but at least they aren't static robots like in Ubisoft games. It's not terrible, just not up to the same standards that we look to in other similar games. However, the sheer scale of the world and number of things you are able to do make for a very fun, curious and interesting game. The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts type of game.

The pop-in is a bit annoying when you notice it, but I often found myself not paying attention to it when fully engaged with the gameplay. Much prefer that than having microstutters.

This game continues to pique your curiosity, constantly making you change directions away from what you believed your destination was because you had to go check something else out real quick.

I could have played today, storms sat in mountains all day and each time they approached city they would fade away. Only rain we got lasted about 20 minutes
Meant to storm for 12 hours tomorrow but I seen that prediction before. No way to tell until I wake up. No rush to sleep now if it is true.

Maybe tomorrow night I get a chance to look at it. Its fine for next week after that.

I haven't watched any videos so you saying its mmo like makes me wonder.

NPC/minor character animations, voice acting, and a few other things stood out to me in those terms. Also the fact that it has a very in-depth clothing dyeing system reminded me of all the MMOs I've played before. There's other minor things like that but again to me it doesn't ruin my enjoyment. Moment-to-moment gameplay is not like an MMO at all.

Trying to get Twitch drops, seems like you can generally keep it in the background, but the stream I'm watching keeps having ad breaks every 5-10 minutes, often with the video player breaking when the ad is done, forcing me to reload the page. Time doesn't count during ads or if the player breaks. Kind of annoying but I want those cosmetics.

The keyboard and mouse controls are a bit meh, but I make it work. Been talking to tons of NPC's and petting dogs and cats. Going to explore some underground areas soon, but have to do some woodcutting and mining first, then find some ingredients for a stew.
Pretty much what I've been doing as well. I'm about half-way through Chapter 2, and spending time in the first main town just goofing around. It took me a little while to understand how to find the fast travel point. I really enjoy the climbing as well, I scaled the castle wall before going through the front gate and all the guards tried to fight me lol.

Oh boy here we go again

Devs need to disclose this on their Steam page. Unacceptable for them to slip it in without disclosing it. Perhaps they felt they would make less sales if people knew before hand. However at this moment it's not proven, though the examples do have a lot of the hallmarks of AI generated art.
