Huge update today!

Major changes:
  • Easy, Medium and Hard difficulty settings (medium has been the standard prior to this patch)
  • New storage options
  • Inventory filters
  • Distant scenery improvements (hopefully no more Playdoh towers in the background of screenshots)
  • New pets
  • Lots of control, action, combat and general responsiveness improvements
  • Lots of other graphical improvements

Patch notes are seriously long, there are so many great changes. I figured the storage options would just be given to you automatically, but I actually like that you have to complete quests and craft them. Just another thing to work towards and I don't mind it. However, it says these are only in your house, not the tent? I still haven't unlocked the bridge to the house yet, so that's a bit annoying.

New house types also which could make decorating more interesting to me. I haven't touched that besides putting my unarmed combat champion trophy there🤣

NPCs now react in different ways to your actions, hopefully making them feel even more alive than before. You can finally lock items in the inventory to prevent you from accidentally selling them. Lots of customization options to the maps along with a new map filter section.

Great update! Can't wait to dive back in.

I just finished Chapter 7 and man, that final boss fight was tough. I've never touched Damiane or Oongka before, so I was very underpowered as Oongka. I died at the boss fight immediately, then decided I need to level up a bit. Spend a few artifacts getting my normal attacks stronger, then stocked up on food. Second attempt was still hard, but got it without dying. I hope I'm never forced to play as them again... I'm definitely gonna be forced to play as them again aren't I?
Basically what I did and food chugging like crazy, but man, I hated using both characters, and I hope I never have to play them again. Just makes no sense to put us in the boots of underleveled characters that we have almost no relations with. Hell, I'd be happier playing Yann and just go around drinking myself to a state of ass.

Yeah, I think you have to get it from the furniture and put it in the house, but it will work whenever you need to craft, so that is great.

Might have to look into that a bit more, as I only have an empty house. I have found some cool stuff to put in there though, like some moving apparatus and some that give off different lights.

Same, perfect with the weekend incoming. Will also be playing some Dark Souls 3 since my nephews just recently gifted me the deluxe edition. He is an uber Dark Souls 3 fan, so he'll probably spend some time roasting the build I came up with, ha ha🙂

If he tells you your build could be way more powerful, just tell him you consider his suggestions "cheese" and you don't want to cheat and make the game super easy.

Someone needs to start a petition to make Yann a playable character, or at least mod it in. So many people hate him but I think he's the funniest character in the game just because of his cursing. His brash personality would fit right perfectly with the Van der Linde gang from RDR2, my favorite game ever, so that's another reason why.

Gosh, I have little over 80 hours and only unlocked 3 achievements so far! By my rate, I should 100% this game around the 400 hour mark.

I really need to finish RDR2 main story. I got to the second camp near the big city, but then I started playing Red Dead Online with my nephews and got hooked on the grind, professions, and PvP. I remember having a lot of fun doing the trader and collector roles🙂

I used to follow this guy for any online Red Dead Online news, so I could get all the free stuff like weapons, cosmetics, and even horses.:

Played for an hour just to mess about, here are a few things I've noticed:

  • Inventory is filtered which is a very nice addition.
  • Far off distant landscapes do have more detail now, but still the LOD seems a bit low.
  • General responsiveness to picking up items and performing other tasks seems improved a bit smoother.
  • More map markers
  • Less pop-in of certain objects and debris
I've barely dived into the bulk of the changes but I'm very happy with all the work Pearl Abyss is doing for the game. By the end of this year this game will be even better than it is now, which is saying a lot as this game has already been fantastic.

I've been taking a break from this game as it's kind of overwhelming how much stuff there is to do. I've been reading the patch notes though and the momentum hasn't slowed down at all yet which is highly impressive to see.
Same here, it's a fun game, but it is not the type of game I want to play now. I will visit it at a later time, and when that happens, it will be interesting to see what changes they have made.

If I were to score the game now based on my 150 hours of gameplay, I would give it an 8/10. Most of the score comes from just how amazing the feel of exploration is, and the rest is based on the fun and at times challenging puzzles and somewhat decent combat. The story is absolute dog sht, and the majority of the characters are incredibly lackluster, so that brings the score down some.

100% agree with your score and review, I feel the exact same way. It's very fun and I do want to keep playing, but I put a good 70 hours in and I'm happy with that for now. They keep pumping out more and more updates so I know when I return there will be ever more things to do and explore, plus the game should run even better. I get really good performance out of this game already and I rarely run into major bugs, but I know they will keep improving performance and introducing bugfixes. It's nice knowing that I can put it down for now and still have more stuff to look forward to when I return.

I was pleasantly surprised that I could run almost everything on the highest setting with my 8GB RTX 3070. I got 55-60 FPS on average and it was only inside larger cities where it would occasionally dip a bit lower, but that did not put a dent in the experience.

I've been using Frame Generation on this game which is working surprisingly well. With mostly highest settings, FG on and FSR 4.1 Native AA, I get around 110-130fps. The last time I've used it, it was a laggy mess. This game has the latest AMD FG model so that could be why it works so good. I play at 1080p so this could be why, but I can't really tell a difference visually compared to it being off, maybe except when moving the camera fast but there's going to be some sort of blur anyways from that.
