sloths used to freak me out as a kid... yeah, I know, totally unrelated but its only the large icon size on left that showed me what @Zloth avatar was...

Now they don't bother me at all. And look really relaxed... but I am older

Had to go get a new pair of shoes today - mum wanted to buy some for me at Xmas but my foot had other ideas. There was a special and even though I didn't really need them, mum wouldn't accept no

Mine are all black, these are a little bright in comparison
I can probably get away with wearing mine everywhere. I like the grey stripe on them

Some of the colour schemes are a bit much.
Boots are half sneakers, half hiking which suits me perfectly.
Waterproofing is nice when it rains
I already had a pair of their hiking shoes and they last forever. Still look new now and must be about 10 years old now. Brother buys same shoes and he wears his out much faster.

Having a medical procedure done tomorrow. If everything goes to plan, I should be back to pre-March Zed. Not that pre-March Zed is anything great, but it's better than March Zed.
Good luck! Hoping all goes well.

I picked up a new eReader. I've had a...first Gen? Kindle Paperwhite 2012 since 2018. Hacked it about a month ago, because I got a wild hair up my butt, but that seems to have broken Libby, which was very disappointing.

Tried to fix it by resetting it, but now it won't reregister to Amazon, but that's not working either, so I figure it's time to replace it, given I paid $40 for it 8 year ago and it's slow as hell anyway.

So I picked up a Boox 6 Go. Supposedly, it's kind of slow, but it still 12 years newer than the Kindle, so I figured it can't be too bad. Looking forward to getting receiving it soon so I can stop reading on my tablet.

Also looking forward to school starting again tomorrow. Since last week feels like we've been moving non-stop between fixing my car up for our road trip, the road trip itself and then spring break. Going to have some time to just relax and work on some personal projects tomorrow and maybe figure out a new career path for myself too.

We have drop bears, its not advisable to sit still for long here. Outside anyway... especially under trees
The funny thing about that is Koalas aren't bears actually, they're marsupials. I know this because a brother of a close friend of mine embarrassed the hell out of me one day at a community meal after I said Koala bear. I tried to tell him a LOT of people call them Koala bears, even Australians, but he just said no, they're not bears. 🙄

You are correct as are they, they can be called Koala Bears but they aren't actually bears. Instead they are unique... like most things here.

Blame Europeans for naming things after things they knew at home. Same goes for Magpies.

European settlers that arrived in Australia inaccurately called koalas ‘bears’ because of their resemblance to bears. Their scientific name, Phascolarctos cinereus, actually means ‘pouched bear’. But koalas are not members of the bear family, Ursidae; rather, they are the only members of the family Phascolarctidae.

Almost every land based animal here is a marsupial, we like to be different.

A land bridge that used to link us to SE Asia broke apart thousands of years ago and stopped intermingling, its why many of our species can also be found in PNG. Same thing applies to some trees... these are cool

I've always wanted to visit Australia, so many cool things there. I'm also fascinated by the Aboriginals. If more people around the world would pay more attention to how they farm sustainably even in harsh environments, there'd probably be less hunger in the world.

The only thing that I find a bit concerning about Australia environmentally has nothing to do with land though, it's that their coral reefs are needing a lot of help due to global warming. That's a massive amount of reef that would have drastic effects if it ever was ruined.

Happy to finally have the week starting again; feels like we've been on the move for the past several weeks. Friday before last was my brother in laws birthday, so I was doing a bunch of prep for that, between getting his gift in order and working on my van to get it ready for our road trip on the day immediately following.

When we got back, I needed to further sort my van, as the check engine light popped up during our trip (Seems that my fix of cleaning the MAP sensor and replacing the rotted o-ring has resolved that. I'm thankful for an easy fix) and my kids were on spring break.

Then this weekend was also packed with stuff, between family visits, swim classes each day and then going to a Play downtown yesterday afternoon.

Not that I'm complaining, I'm just happy to have a day or two to decompress. Hoping to work on my RC car today at a minimum and my new skin for my Steam Deck should arrive today, so I'll see if I can get that installed and I'll try to do some work out in the yard this week, since it'll be cooler. I also need to continue to apply for jobs.

My wife made an interesting proposal to me though, which was that maybe I should try flipping cars. So I may look for some jalopies I can pick up for cheap and resell, though I have concerns about that.

If that were coming from an oceanographic authority/institute that actually conducts such studies, it would be a lot more credible than some organization on the net that calls themselves "reef rebels". He also isn't showing far back enough data to even indicate if those claimed 2025 results are any better than when the reef was at full health many decades ago. Global warming has been a thing since long before 1985.

Ever since the industrial age up until modern factory smoke stack filters and more efficient engines and electric motors were made for cars, the air pollution went pretty much unchecked. Now many countries are enacting laws to even prohibit use of cheap crude "bunker fuel" in oil tankers and cargo ships. It's why many if not most ships now show white vs black exhaust off their smoke stacks. These ships are the biggest contributors of air pollution in port towns, and cruise ships are among the biggest contributors on the sea. The rain brings the contaminants down though, so the airborne stuff also pollutes the sea, and is more directly related to global warming.

I also don't see him giving any mention of the efforts that have been made to revive the reef. I've seen such things done in a documentary I saw where they were using rebar to make small domes, then zip tied healthy coral to them, which brings in fish and other sea life and slowly rebuilds the coral.

These kind of people are looking for click bait IMO, because it's all negatively biased as if everything that's been said about the reef's condition is lies. They also tend to have hidden agendas that want the money spent in other ways. The internet is literally chock full of this kind of thing.
