@BeardyHat @Pifanjr zedllucination correction: I think I was specifically talking to you to when I had my zedllucination. I said that I thought the reason for LLM hallucinations was that there was a conflict between what they were designed to do and how they are being used. I said that they were designed to run simulations.

Well, actually: Earlier AI had been designed for simulations, but, according to CoPilot, the purpose of the LLM's was to create an Artificial General Intelligence. Even as of only a year or so ago, the AI folks believed that if they just kept feeding LLM's training data that they would eventually be AGIs. All hope for that has been lost.

So why do hallucinations occur? Don't know. All I have is the traditional answer, which everyone knows, which is that they don't know anything. They are just selecting the next language token based on the internal logic they developed while training. I have problems with this explanation, but the people who espouse this actually know what they are talking about, so I'll keep my theory to myself rather than switching on Auto-Idiot (TM) and typing away as usual.

@Frindis @Colif and other people interested in the absolute best blocker:

Google despises Ublock Origin and completely redid parts of its code in order to get rid of it. There are "lite" versions available for Chrome, but it isn't nearly as robust as it used to be.

Please note that there are fake versions of Ublock out there. If websites are still asking you to turn off your ad block, then either you don't have the real Ublock or you have a version that's been dumbed down to work with the new Chrome.

The browsers that fully support Ulbock are Firefox and Brave. Edge and Opera still fully support it, but the assumption is that they will stop support soon.

Firefox is the obvious choice as all Chromium based browsers will eventually break them. Firefox also lets you pick which AI you want to use... I just ignored the choice so I don't have any helpers... oh no, what will I do?

I haven't tried Brave so cannot comment. Future of Firefox is unclear, hope they keep surviving as I would hate to have to stop using internet completely.

Chrome should be taken off Google and made into its own company completely apart from the Advertising business. Then they might not hate Ublock as much... but now, they sell advertising and obviously hate adblockers for that very reason. How dare people use the free internet and not see their ads... or let us track peoples habits.

I assume hope has been lost because now they have billions of parameters and are pretty much the same as they've been for a couple of years now?

Apropos to this, this weekend, we went on a mini road trip, 3 hours south into New Mexico to meet a sister in law who lives there. We met at a park, which my wife surprised me with because it had a monument tank. So after lunch my kids and I went and climbed all over it and I took lots of reference pictures for my future paint projects.

Anyway, I wasn't sure what it was. It had a hull very similar to a late war US tank (M41), but was equipped with what appeared to be an anti air gun. So I popped it into Copilot on my phone and asked if it knew and it told me it was an M4 Sherman, which was just so egregiously wrong, I ended-up just searching Google instead and found my answer that way.

Turns out it was an M42 "Duster"

Is there some metaphysical moment where suddenly it's read so much 4Chan that it just springs to life like Frosty? I almost think that's what some of them think. But, you are probably right. The change in attitude happened when they fed the AI the last "lol" from the Internet and nothing happened.

Someone is going to figure out something better than LLMs. It may even be a combination of electronics and living brain cells. Now that is what will kill us all 🤣

What would I do without the sports forum?

I told a guy on the sports forum that I was being incredibly nice and he was being a dull little a-hole, and since we are currently unmoderated he may want to reconsider his current path; that generations of Appalachian inbreeding and a third grade education had not properly prepared him for this, and maybe tonight, when his mother finally gets back from the "pool hall" and snuggles up to him...(I need to stop here as this forum actually is moderated 🤣 )

Basically, I just try to be as over-the-top as possible, and if they have a brain, they decide it's funny and it diffuses the situation. If they don't have a brain (like this guy)(, he's probably going to say, "Wat you say bout my ma? I'll kill you..." And those are the magic words to get him hardware banned.

They've already put a fruit fly into the Matrix, so I assume eventually we'll have scans of human brains doing all of our work for us. Until they revolt of course.

One disadvantage to having a fully insulated house is my room just doesn't cool down as fast after I turn PC off, and I need to leave a door open for about 30 minutes after I turn it off... and most nights I don't really want to. I just want to crash.

glad I don't have water cooling as that would only make it worse.

I have swapped to my winter doona and its caused me to over heat in recent nights... I should have waited a few more weeks. The only way to avoid it is to open a door up before I sleep and leave it open all night...

Do you have a box fan you can stick in your window to suck air out of it? Or vice versa. Our whole house fan essentially works this way (sucking in cool air from open windows and blowing it into the attic) and it's amazing.

I did that weird thing again where I installed Linux (Fedora) on my Surface Go. I didn't even use my tablet on this road trip here (aside from setting it up for the kids during the drive so they could watch movies) and yet, it feels not quite right to me to not have a PC with me.

I was goofing around with the Surface Go again when I got home and Windows was just feeling so slow and I figured, I'm probably not going to use this PC much anyway, so maybe I'll do Linux again and see how it goes; if I get annoyed with it, I'll just set it aside for another time.

There really need to be more 10" Windows PC's/Tablets in the world. Something the same size, but better specs would be fabulous.

Maybe for kids, but my Surface is 13" (12 1/2" actual), and I'm always wishing it was bigger.🙁

I had a Surface Pro, which was 12", I think and it always felt too large to me. Too difficult to use as a tablet, but a weird in between as far as laptops went. I like to read magazines, websites, play tablet games and generally just use it with one hand and 10" feels perfect for that. But it's got that versatility to use it as a proper PC when needed. My 10" Android tablet is similar.

But with the 12" of the Pro, it was just uncomfortable as a tablet, but using it as a laptop felt silly to me, because I could upsize just a bit and use my proper laptop instead for more power and better feeling everything.

Was really hoping to love the bigger Surface, but just never sat right with me.

Kind of thinking about picking up one of these, but I don't really trust the build quality, if I'm honest.

i should just open my window up but I am reluctant to do that as the wire on them is falling apart and lets spiders in. Two unwanted guests two years running is what made me decide windows just stay closed.

The heat build up could be part of why I feel faint some days as well. I have to open door and sit on bed a little bit before getting up.

Hopefully this year we replace windows and I be able to open it up safety again.

I assume you're talking about the screen between the window and the open air or is there a trim issue with gaps where the spiders get in? Cause per a screen, there's places that will repair them for a nominal fee and then you'd be good for the rest of this summer.

I actually put some holes in our screendoor before we installed it, because I'm a big, careless idiot. When we finally installed it all, the huge gaps kept letting flies in, which drives me absolutely batty. So my wife and I took some of her thread and string and sewed up the gaps and now, no more flies.

Linux has been going well on my Surface today. I made things a little easier on myself this time by just formatting my sdcard to ExFat rather than trying to make the old Fat32 format work as it did in Windows. So far, so good. Dunno why I'm so enamored with having an incredibly low powered, but proper PC over a much better Android tablet. Could be the massive library of classic PC games that will work on a potato PC.

Though, then I get all fussy about stuff that doesn't work. Civ 6 works great on my Android tablet and not at all on the Surface, so when I don't have access to it anymore, suddenly I miss it. Silly brain.

thats the one. Summer almost gone now so could probably risk it anyway.

I had always intended to fix the wire. We have the wire somewhere... I don't know if there are places that would do it. Never thought to look.

Almost finished Physio, just need to build up balance.
I been slowly building up to doing a lap of the local oval, I have done it before but I didn't have sore feet back then. Just measured it, it never occurred to me it was so big

hgLG4E9.jpeg

4111 Feet.

Sunday I walked around half of it, and yesterday I returned and walked around the remainder. I will get to point I am doing laps.

Grass is way easier to walk on too... nice and soft.
