Friend had his surgery yesterday. Seems to have lasted from about 3pm to midnight; I suppose not surprising given it's open heart surgery. Surgeons thought they might need to replace two valves, but thankfully only the one that was damaged and they managed to cut out as much of the bacteria as they could find. Friend is not out of the woods yet, apparently, as the next critical to recovery, but yeah.

I struggled to fall asleep last night and then had anxious dreams about what I'd wake-up to. Thankfully things are ok for now, but I need to figure out when is a good time to visit him again here now.

I had a few walks outside doing laps of the house... go out back door and walk around paths to front door. I also walked down to the road but walking back revealed I don't like inclines yet. I now have sore feet and I am staying off them for rest of night. The pain killers I got a few weeks ago are helpful to let me sleep.

My feet will adjust, I haven't walked at all in two months. Its much easier than using the scooter, no need to park it.

Steps aren't that bad, just need to work out which foot to put down first when going up stairs. it doesn't seem to matter.

The weatherman on the radio said we could have up to 28 inches of snow on Saturday.

How about I meet you half way, snow may not stay on ground as long then.

Not going outside much next week
40 = 104f
42 = 107.6f

Seems summer has arrived. Think I go into night shift since the next day I have to go out is in one week and 4 hours time. Best way to deal with hot days is to sleep through them.

I thought I had left a spare piece of foam at the Physio appointment on Tuesday but I found it inside the boot today before I put it on. I took it out as it was under the material that wraps my foot and I had to adjust to it not being there.

Then I just went for a walk to end of the block, one way was easier than other. I never noticed the slight incline in one direction before, but I noticed it today. Grass was easier to walk on than the concrete path. Road was easier on the way back as less cracks. Branches/Twigs weren't the obstacle I thought they would be as a street cleaner had come down road in the last few days, nice coincidence.

Only having one walk today as I feel I overdid it yesterday. Outside anyway

In Tennessee it never gets over 101 or 102 in the summer. But there are places I refuse to go to that can get to 135f (56.7c).

There was a documentary about this French couple. They stopped at a state park to go on a hike. You are supposed to check in with a ranger before starting the hike so they can check to make sure you have enough water, but possibly because of the language difference, they just went ahead and started. I think it was a 5 mile trail. They turned around at the 1 mile mark and tried to make it back, but didn't.

My wife always says she prefers summer over Winter, but honestly it's often six of once, half dozen of the other because it's often too hot to go outside during the summer. Though our winters are often pretty mild, so it's not too bad. Cold as hell in the mornings, but by the afternoon it's pretty nice. I walked to get the kids from school in a sweater yesterday.

We have hikes here where that can happen. But also freak lightning storms that can get you above the treeline and just had our first mountain lion fatality in like 20 years too.

I canceled that laptop. I spent 48 hours feeling guilty about buying it. It's an amazing price, but I don't actually need it. I already have 2 decent laptops and a desktop.

I should have probably done that, I had the time. But I did sell one tablet PC and a second Android tablet at least, so I'll still be down by one. And I'll probably sell my other Windows tablet and depending on how I feel after that, maybe my other Android tab too.

So at least I'm consolidating a little bit, even if I didn't need the new hardware...

I thought you built a desktop for this purpose that you had on the side of your couch, am I mistaken?
Sorry. Somehow I missed some comments at the end of that page.

I was wanting to isolate that laptop. I use my desktop for everything, so I can't keep it from updating.

I would probably feel differently if I lived somewhere like Nebraska where it was getting -30 F, but with our normally mild winters, I prefer them to summer.

We have areas like that as well. I also refuse to go to them.

Hottest next week appears to be 45c

Sundays temp forecast for here dropped to 39 already.

I prefer winter to summer as you can only take so many items of clothing off before you get arrested. That and way less storms in winter... and it is really rare when its too cold to use PC, whereas its common to need to turn it off in summer to cool room down. And not as many bush fires in winter.

Temp range here most years is minimum of -8c and max of about 42c. So it doesn't ever snow here but I am fairly close to our skiing region.

One advantage this year is because I broke my foot, I can essentially ignore day light savings for the next two months as I don't have to go anywhere. It ends on April 4th and my Doctors Cert ends after that.

the most obvious example

from 24 rabbits imported 100 years ago, we have approx 200 million now.
Dad used to like eating rabbit, I never liked it.
That's actually something I was thinking about when I posted. I'd guess that if most people loved rabbit meat, that there wouldn't be nearly as many rabbits in Australia.

There are actually quite a few more that this article doesn't cover.

They are now saying that the blizzard will barely miss us to the north. That's good. I love snow, but a blizzard is too much. When I was younger, I chose to drive in a blizzard at 2 am in the morning and was lucky to make it home. The funny thing is that I was working in a closed bank by myself that week and didn't even realize that a blizzard was coming. That day I worked very late, and I stepped outside and received the shock of a lifetime. Fifty mph winds and almost no visibility. I drove home at between 5 and 15 mph the whole way. Have never been happier to arrive home.

Got my kids a couple of rechargeable handheld retro consoles preloaded with a couple hundred games for their 15 hour flight.
I just sold one and bought a different one, speaking of those. This one can play Diablo and Heroes of Might & Magic 3.

Storm is going to mostly miss us. We get some cold ("feels like -4*) this morning and some snow (hardly a dusting so far), but that seems to be the extent of it.

Unfortunately, I have to help my sister in law move today. Would have hoped for warmer weather, but oh well.

To anyone in the US in the pathway of the snowstorm, I hope you and your loved ones are safe.

We're expected to get about half an inch of ice and up to 18 inches of snow. My main concern is losing electricity. I have a good feeling we won't, but back in the year 2000 my town was out of power for over a week due to a snowstorm. Surely the power grid has improved since then, but it's always a concern. Luckily we have groceries stocked up, a propane wall heater that does not require electricity, and charcoal in case I need to grill to cook food and boil water.

Earlier this week the forecast was way worse, today it's looking much better. On Monday we heard people saying 1-3 inches of ice! Weather forecasting is all predictions at the end of the day, with no definitive way to tell until it happens. Of course this got people scared, flooding the grocery stores and gas stations. Today it's looking more likely just a bunch of snow and sleet, so a little better.

The one thing I do know is that I'll be fixing a huge pot of chili tonight.

I once had to bike home in a snow storm. One part of my route was on a bridge next to the highway, with sound barriers on both sides of the bike path for part of it. Those sound barriers made a wind tunnel that day which was almost impossible to get through, with my bike almost being blown out of my hands while I was struggling to put one foot in front of the other. I was pretty relieved once I made it out from between the sound barriers and could just bike again.
