I trained the crap out of my dog and everyone is always so impressed with how well behaved he his. It was 100% all of this.

That said, I failed somewhere on the leash training. He's pretty awful on walks until he tires out a bit

Confidence, and a short leash. Your almost holding them by the collar and right at your side, till they get the hang of it. Also a clicker is a great tool or click with your mouth. It doesnt need to be loud as they hear so well. I use a quick ehh with couple tongue click or a quick chhshh to get their attention. When yhey start to move away, a light tug, or stop and click, when yhey look at you get um to sit, then start agian. See if that helps.

The most important thing is consistancy. You can train a dog as well as a pro, but service dogs, the good ones are so good because they also weedout the ones that arent. Most in training are trained as pups with foster homes, The ones that take well to the training move onto the next phase the ones that dont just become normal pets. They are often breed from prior service dogs so the genes are there. I dont know the numbers but lots dont make it. So really its not fair to compare them when your taking the best of 20

I had a dog once that i spent about a year with from a pup. I was hurt and basically spent every day with her for about a year. She wouldnt even blink/budge if i dropped food on the floor. She got fed from her bowl, though i would give her a bone on occasion but she liked her pull toys more. She was a rotti, so she loved tug.

She never begged or blinked when you ate. Then i got better and and was gone most of the time and then my dad was with her more and bbasicallyall that trIning went down the drain as he would give her what he was eating. Even then aroud me she never begged. Still she was one of the best dogs i ever had. I didnt leash train her she was just in a fenced in yard, but my neighbor took her hiking off leash all the time. She did have a prey drive that never went away, she'd take off. but she stop if you called her so that was nice.

She caught a pheasant once and brought it yo me as a gift, not sure she knew what to do with it. But the best was watching her and my cat hunt chipmunks together they 'd spend hours doing it., though i dont think they ever got one. That cat was not a good hunter, but it was funny watching him try. A rotti and a cat as best friends is a funny site to see. The chipmunks would hide in this 8 foot long pipe that was too small for either of them. The dog on one end and the cat on the other for hours. The chipper just waited them out, but it was a common occurrence.

When I was much younger, and going thru a period of homelessness camping in a forest near a trailer court, some of the guys living in one of the trailers asked if I needed a place to stay, as they saw me bicycling to my tent in the woods each night. So I took them up on it. One day they had planned to go hunting. I didn't have a rifle like they did, nor a hunting license, so they asked me to watch their dog, saying the pads on it's feet would get cut on the sharp rocks on the trail if it went with them.

This was a full sized greyhound by the way that was a former race animal that was adopted as a pet. She was getting very hyped when they walked away, and to make matters worse, this was back when I (and they), smoked pot. I don't know if I could have even held the dog sober let alone stoned, but it eventually got away and found them. When they all came back they looked disgusted that I didn't hold onto her, but I said, you should have brought a stout leash and tied her to a tree!

It was a pretty nice looking dog they named Cashmere, but she had a nasty habit of chewing your socks to bits! I supposed maybe she chewed through leashes too. We had a terrier once named Duke when I was very young that we had to secure in the back yard or he'd find female dogs in the neighborhood that weren't spayed and, well, you know. We had to get stronger and stronger leashes. When we finally used a chain, and he broke that, poor Duke went to another home.

My dog chewed through his leather leash the first time he had to stay at the vet. We've had a couple of people dogsit him, but all of them have refused to do it again because he just whines the entire time and will try to open the door and go out if given the opportunity, which happened once when my brother in law was dogsitting. Luckily the dog didn't run off and was caught fairly easily.

I'm not sure how good of a hunter our cat is, but he's good enough to have caught at least one pigeon alive and bring it inside. Turns out it was a racing pigeon in training, it had a phone number on a ring around its foot. Luckily it wasn't very hurt and we brought it back to its owner.

That was after being run over by a car after she went deaf at 17, and we felt horrible. She still came back and hunted after nearly a year long rehab. Kitty therapy, range of motion and lots of tuna juice. For a while it was touch and go, but she was a tough one. OBviosly not the same, the poor thing. it took a lot out of her, but i did see her still hunt a few time and get her prey, but arthritisset in soon after and she became a house cat around 20.

Better than rambo!

One of her tricks was to sit on top of the clothesline pole. An old ceder tree that was limbed and in yhe middleof the back yard which was just open grass. It was a bit rough and slightly tapered but had plenty of open space around it. She'd use her claws and get to the top which was only about 4 inches wide. She'd sit there waiting sometimes for quiet a while maybe an hour or more for a feild mouse or mole to get close. Often you'd walk be walking by a window and look out and she'd be sitting there, like a hawk perched a top it.

When something was in range, she'd run down the pole head first and leap off about 5-6 feet from the ground and land on her prey.

Talk about the gaming term "Death from above" it was such an athletic feat. We called her the huntress, it was certainly fitting, though ironically my sister named her "sweat pea"

Talked to my friend last week about the wargaming tournament we've been planning to go to at the end of the month and both of us decided that we're not going to do it.

I'm simultaniously disappointed and relieved. After skipping one of my usual ones in February, I thought I was feeling pretty ready to go back to another usual one in August, so I bought a few new models, built them up and started painting them. But as the date as gotten closer and closer, I've just felt like I don't want to be doing this anymore, that is, feeling obligated to paint stuff. Nothing makes me lose interest and passion quicker than obligation.

I do like that I really crank stuff out and get a lot of painting done, it feels pretty great after the fact, but during it feels like a slog. And I have just so many other projects and things I want to be doing right now, I don't feel like locking in and painting a whole bunch, as well as practicing and testing lists over the next few weeks.

So yeah, I think I'm mostly relieved. It's nice to know that I'm free now to just do what I will in the next couple of weeks. I've got a 3d printer to fix, some other models for another game to build, my progress on my engine rebuild is going quite well, so I can't wait to work on all that other stuff...

Had to evacuate the house due to a sewage problem. I didn't want to leave because had I stayed I could have taken the time to toss everything I didn't want anymore into the sewage since we are getting reimbursed for the contents of our basement. They will regret that when they realize my wife has an entire furniture store's worth of furniture down there. Also, this solves my antique cuckoo clock problem. I should have let it solve my Sager laptop problem, but I'm situationally honest and didn't heave it down the stairs.

As much as i want to buy a house, outside of just not being able to afford it, is repairs like that that make me kinda enjoy being a renter lol. Still, id like to own one but i can find the luxury in not having to deal with these problems as a renter while i remain unable to buy a house lol. Good luck, hopefully it doesnt cost too much!

Ahh, no, no, I'm also renting. Lol, I guess I talk like I own it, but that is not the case. I do care a lot for the apartment, why I was reporting super fast when I noticed something was off and also the issue that happened after the plumbing issue with the pipes not being tightened good enough.

I try my absolute best to treat the place I rent as if it were my home, but at times it also saddens me to see how some homes get treated. Like one place I lived I reported of mice and it took years before the landlord did anything about it. I mean, sure, we had traps, but he never did much about where they entered. So, it ended with the whole apartment having to be renovated. I don't know why some people act/think like that. You can't just turn a blind eye, it's going to bite you in the ass!

I bounce back and forth! I actually have a new body that's been sitting in its box for probably two months now and just received a new motor the other day that will probably sit around for a couple of months until get a wild hair and get it in my car.

RC Crawling is more of a Spring/Fall/Winter thing, I think. It's tough to be beaten on by the sun during summer, so I haven't used either of mine much except on our vacation to the mountains.

But I'd probably lose my passion for that too if I competed in the RC Crawler competitions.

We had a similar issue many years ago. The neighbors apartment upstairs had some water issue, which seeped through where our ceiling fan mounted. The fan was on at the time, so it flung nasty water all over the apartment and thankfully insurance covered pretty much everything from the couch, to the coffee table and the TV. Really worked out in our favor.

Stuff about painting

Don't feel bad, i bought some stuff to paint during the pandemic, its a hero quest box set, and some tranformer minis and some radom metal figures and all havent been touched. Though i am planing on it thiis winter!

Gardening always takes up my summer, though with the heat this summer an indor activity sounds nice lol, but this summers activityhas been organizing!


Lack of space is a big part of why i haven't though, just no space for supllies and storage but thats finally all changed. Ive been in my apt for 5 years now and just finally bought the last peice of furniture i needed, so now the great reorganization begins. Picked up 4 peices over the last year and with adding another shelf in the closet, I've, added nearly 350 cubic square feet of space. Its getting so much better and finally have room to do stuff and find the stuff i need to do it. its amazing how much space you can add with the right furnature and planing in a little studio.

Last thing i need to get is a nice sturdy collapsable table if anyone has some suggestions id love to hear them. I want something about 50 inches x 40" or maybe 36. I need it to foldup and fit between the foot of my bed and a server cabinet.

I dont want a flimsy thing, it needs to be sturdy but easy to move and colapse easy. as it will double as a painting/puzzle/gaming table and a dinning table for 4 people when i have folks over to entertain. I just dont want some crappy card table, i want something nice.



Ps all you folks dealing with flooding, let me just say ugg, so sorry to hear, that just sucks.

Obviously, space is an issue, but I highly recommend a dedicated table/space for it if you can manage. Having a dedicated space for it where you can just pick it up and start is important, I think. I've been painting a for a few years now and have probably about 300-400 minis I've painted at this point.

I never got around to my gardening this year. I weeded and prepped my garden, did a lot on my yard and then just suddenly lost motivation. Never got around to planting my garden, never finished weeding the backyard, it all just kind of fell to the wayside with all the travel and other projects I've had going on this summer.

Sounds like something my wife would decide. I'm fact, she did several years ago, though we didn't have that same issue with the plumbing, thankfully. Though she now wants to install a wet bar in the basement and set it up for karaoke a little better after seeing my cousins setup earlier this summer.

Having a bad time this morning. The car I helped my friend buy, well that blew it's head gasket, go figure. I should have checked it before we bought it, but everything looked clean and good and didn't expect that, but I guess it makes sense. Even with only 80k miles on it, it's old and him putting so many miles on it, I guess it was bound to go.

And of course, it's a huge pain to replace, basically needing the entire front of the engine disassembled because it's an overhead cam. I really don't want to do that job, but it feels like it's my responsibility, given I sold him on the car. So I've been anxious about that all morning. Thankfully, it looks like my other mechanically inclined friend, who is more knowledgeable and has a much, much bigger shop than I do will help him. One way or the other, we'll get it done, but I just hope I don't need to lend more than some basic support, as I've already got a lot on my plate right now and don't want to tackle a multiple day engine teardown.

This guy has the worst luck, I swear. Though he's also put himself in the bad position he's in too, so I don't know. On some level I feel like I'm saving him from himself, but I also want to be a good friend and lend a hand where I can..

He's not one to insist you need 29" wheels to roll over the technical sections well either, his 24 inchers suit him just fine. I'd absolutely loose my schnitz if I so much as tried HALF of what he does here, and quite well I might add.

I'm sure he was glad at least that his friend Mike had a spare 29" tube.

Welcome back! Is that why you were gone for so long? That really sucks, and I hope it's going well now. I work in insurance so I see this kind of thing every day, and I feel the pain anytime someone's life is essentially uprooted to sudden accidents like this.

It's not any fun. And we thought today was possibly going to be the end, and then their inspection found another problem, and it looks like we're going to be in the hotel another 4 days at least. It's not a danger anymore. Everything has been cleaned up. We just can't use the water at all.

And here my kids are scared of just falling over on flat ground! Haven't been able to convince my 5 year old to even try the peddle bike for more than a few minutes yet.

Though he comes from wary, risk averse stock, so I suppose none of that is surprising. 😂

Decided I don't have the bandwidth to help my friend with his head gasket, as looking at the scope of things, it's an enormous job.

I feel a little bad, but mostly relief here. Talking it over with my friends and my wife, I realized that yeah a $2000 car is definitely going to have some issues. Even my van was only $2000 and I've put lots of time and a reasonable amount of money into it.

I feel like I am leaving a friend in a lurch, but as my other friends and wife told me, it's not my responsibility and as much as you want to help the people in your life who consistently make poor decisions, you can only do so much, you can't kill yourself bending over backwards to help them when it's just going to repeat itself again shortly.

Anyway, I mentioned to him that I can help him diagnose the issue, but I don't have the time to fix it with him (given I have lots of other stuff going on in my life too and I also need my space and my tools to do some more work on my own $2000 car). He's seems fine, but frustrated that he's back to square one in his car situation, which is understandable.
