I dont need it, theyre actually all nice individually I just dislike hanging out with groups of more than a few people at the same time.
Same here, I always try to bring a quiz/riddle of sorts, so I can keep them occupied.
I also hate hangovers but need a little lubrication to help with the people overload. Woe.
Just remember to lubricate your intestines with some fat and you'll be fiiiiiiiiiine:grin:

We're going to eat Nepalese food first, so I'll be eating plenty. I'd usually just hang around playing pool as we are going to a bar, but the person who organized it this this year thought it would be different to go and see a band. They look pretty interesting to be fair.

Be safe and have a good time!
Thanks! Always am.

Work Christmas party today, so wish me luck or not.

I have one of those next week and I haven't decided whether I'm going. My coworkers are all nice people, but I don't have a clue what to talk about with them. So I'd be going mainly for the snacks and so I'm not judged for not going.

I tend to sit on the edge of a table because then I'll have fewer people to talk to. Also good way to get to the snacks faster I guess, he he:). Come to think of it, maybe sitting with a talkative person would be a smart move, because he/she would just take center stage in the table area.

Drop in for first half hour, sneak out and watch a movie, drop in for last half hour—anyone claims they missed you, tell 'em they were too drunk to see you :devilish:

I also hate hangovers

Looks like you got that covered—lots of mash spuds or rice used to do the job when I had to do a few of those jaunts.

Tip for y'all:

Work from home, party every day :D

OK Monkeys, I've got one for ya, and it comes with a bit of a warning to any whom might be unaware like me.

It goes like this, apparently smart TV manufacturers are now allowed to sell your personal info and only have to have a wee little toggle hidden in the Privacy Terms portion of the settings, which if enabled, forces them to cease such activity.

If not, as soon as you connect your TV to the internet, or more specifically in my case, register your product, you are open to just about any manufacturer of electronics to interrupt what you're doing with a popup asking if you want to run X, Y, Z app.

In my case it was a Galaxy AO3s music streaming service, which is for a model of Samsung cell phone. The reason this dandy little gem started playing music is my new "Magic Remote" has an OK button that doubles as a scroll wheel, which can cause you to scroll to another option accidentally before clicking.

I was at my wits end thinking, is this a neighbor using a Samsung phone, did this app suddenly somehow magically enable my Wi Fi on the TV after trying and failing to get it to connect wirelessly? No, the fly on the wall, the spy hidden in plain sight, was the manufacturer of MY new TV!

Worse yet, after talking at length with not one, but THREE customer service people for my TV brand, it was not until I spoke to Samsung's CS that it was suggested I check the privacy settings. I get the weird feeling those other CS folks have a gag order on them.

Before ending the 3rd call, which was after I spoke to Samsung. I suggested if they want to SHARE, not SELL, people's personal info for more app access, they should have a popup the first time you access the app hub, that asks if you want to agree to those terms, and thus allow it.

IMO it shouldn't even be legal to do it the other way around, to engage in such activities, and force the consumer to find that setting before getting on the net and enable it in order to stop them. I can't tell you how ridiculous this is that we have to defend ourselves against our own possessions!

That's... crazy. Crazy like a fox or crazy like a company trying to save 5¢ per remote, I don't know. Making the scroll also a button is fine, many mice do that, but you do NOT make that the most clicked button!

Uhh, yeah, if the TV manufacturer ever finds it's making too much in profits, they'll be sure to implement that suggestion.

There are way more "smart" things than seems at all sane. I wonder what info that "smart bed" is sending out to companies?

But yeah, I hear what you're saying. Actually, is the TV working fine even with that option turned off? I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of law or rule behind that option being anywhere at all, and the product working after it's turned off. Otherwise, I would expect to see a message pop up asking you to return the product for a full refund (minus postage and restocking fee) if you don't agree to the TV selling your viewing habits. Or, more likely, just have a clause deep within the terms of service saying they're going to do it and hooking up the TV constitutes agreement.

I live in Indiana, which is where my wife works, but I'm going with her next week to her work Christmas party for her Knoxville terminal. Which means I'm going to know no one. Not only is it not my work, but it's a different state. :(

Yeah I know there's little chance of my suggestion being taken seriously, and the poor gent in customer service might even be afraid to relay it, so I'm not even sure it will get to them.

After reading through my post again, I'm not sure I made it clear that my new TV is NOT a Samsung. The TV works fine though, in fact it's broadcast reception and upscaling far exceeded my expectations after the Sony 4K TV I bought several years ago (but returned), was far worse at that AND handling brightly lit scenes.

What's crazy about that cell phone app interruption though is I was not even viewing something in the smart app suite, I was actually playing Resident Evil 4 Remake. This game looks great with HDR enabled, but you have to enable HDR in Windows or it will say only HDR capable displays are supported.

There's a strange quirk though with the ShadowPlay captures not capturing it well when in HDR. It looks extremely washed out and lifeless. Nvidia mentions in their latest driver there are issues with HDR, and that they're consulting with MS and game devs to sort it out. This has actually been going on for YEARS though, because I was having problems with HDR in ME Andromeda back when I bought the Sony 4K TV.

So I seem to have timed things right regarding upscaling, which was one of my main worries. I was even planning on keeping my Panasonic 32" IPS 1080p TV, and putting it in another spot in my living room, just to view TV broadcasts with headphones plugged straight into the TV. SO glad I don't have to hassle with that. HDR in games, or at least the capture of them in this case, still seems to be a work in progress though.

LOL at the Monkeys video. I was like 8 yrs old when their TV show came out, but I DID watch it. Funny that some of the lyrics in that song are still relevant today, "We're the young generation, and we've got something to say".

I'll end with a question for anyone that can tell me. I've been reading W10 is supposed to have an Auto HDR option, that automatically enables it when a game that has it is launched. I see no such option though, did they remove it?

Just looked at some platters, that look tasty!:) Reminds me of Indian food with how there are a lot of small dishes in a meal.
For some reason in Finland all the Indian restaurants are called Nepalese. I know a couple of people from Nepal, an old friend is married to a Nepalese guy and he told me its 90% Indian dishes, except they add Momos to the menu.

Pretty much the same, except I have to do it in my second language as all my co-workers are Finns. Luckily the music was really good.

@Brian Boru Hangover dealt with via the medium of baked beans, eggs and toast. Thatll do.

Now I'm lost. I take it you were playing RE4R using your TV as a monitor. The app popped up wanting to install on... what? The TV or your phone? Or maybe even your PC?

P.S. That theme song got stuck in my head as soon as I read your first line. I figured I would share. ;)

This article has a W10 bit at the end, which includes:
"If these switches are not available, it means your display does not support HDR"

I can't really justify VESA's definition of an HDR capable display when their study is skewed toward very high end models of TVs that only looks at it from a Home Theater vs gaming perspective.

Here's the specs for my TV...

...you can clearly see it supports the most commonly used HDR10 in games, and Dolby Vision, which is used in some (but not as many) games, and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma).

So as far as I'm concerned, there's no reason the game shouldn't recognize it as a HDR capable display other than the HDR standard and certification for PC games and monitors used playing them being tossed around between Microsoft, Nvidia, game devs, and VESA, the latter of whom shouldn't even be involved because they mainly focus on Home Theater, NOT gaming.

As I also stated prior, the HDR works fine in the game when HDR in W10 is enabled, which is pretty common with a lot of PC games that support HDR. The only thing I'm trying to find out now is why I'm not seeing the Auto HDR option to enable in W10's HD Color Settings, since there are guides on the net explaining and showing how to do it.

I will add that my TV also has a lot of Auto convenience features, in this case meaning you don't have to enable HDR on the TV. I've already streamed some UHD HDR movies on Amazon, and there's always an HDR logo that pops up in the top right corner of the screen whenever a movie with HDR plays. So I know full well my TV supports it and that it's working fine, and I don't need to see proof of that on VESA's very uncomprehensive, elitist list.

[EDITED]
Slight correction I edited in, displaysecifications.com had some errors. It supports 3 types of HDR (HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG). That still covers the vast majority of HDR in games though, and even movies.

You and most others responding to you would have hated my final job. We were scattered all over the country, so we didn't have a Christmas party, but in early January we always had a week long company retreat. It was like a 5 day Christmas party! You even got to room with a stranger at the hotel :)

@Frindis Five years into development they released a trailer of a guy walking down a street. I can't believe so many people bought that garbage on day one.

I wish I could move out of Tennessee. Been here since the early 90's, and I'm just over it. There are a lot of bright and wonderful people here, many who moved here from somewhere else, but the average person who was born and raised here is...well, I don't want to get political, but they believe every conspiracy theory they hear. This is a state of extremists. I want to go back to south Florida. Not going to happen, though. Everyone important to me is in Tennessee. My best hope is that one of my kids will relocate after college, and I can just move wherever they go.

That kind of stuff is explicitly illegal in the EU. They need to ask for permission before gathering data. Hopefully the USA catches up one of these days.

In the Netherlands all of the Chinese restaurants are mostly Indonesian, because a lot of Chinese Indonesians fled to the Netherlands around the time Indonesia became independent from the Netherlands after World War 2.

For Finland, apparently it all started with one Nepalese restaurant started by Nepalese immigrants that became very popular, causing later Indian immigrants to call their restaurant Nepalese as well.

I like to ask people what they do for fun, usually. Tends to lead to some interesting conversations, especially when you find you have some overlap with people.

I usually don't even get into a conversation with anyone in the first place. And if I do, I often have a hard time keeping it going if the other person isn't decently extroverted.

Which is really just more of a reason to go, so I can brush up on my social skills a bit.

Did you get paid, including overtime, for the entire time you were there? Because I would consider that being on the job.

Sharing a room with a stranger at a hotel wouldn't really bother me that much though. I can't be expected to talk to someone while I'm sleeping or showering, which are the only things a hotel room is good for.

Finally knocked out some miniatures I've been batch painting for awhile now. Had 31 of them I was painting altogether and finally finished-up their bases and gave them a coat of varnish yesterday before playing an evening game with them after the kids were in bed. That's a major hard part of my army out of the way and now I only have a 5 more Infantry to build, as well as artillery piece, then paint those and three vehicles before a tournament in February. Sounds like a lot, but I think it'll go faster than it sounds, though now that I've finished that big project, I think I'll take a break for the weekend before starting the build process on Monday.

And the thin and light laptop hasn't left my brain yet, it's still sitting there in the dark corner, even when I'm able to shove it out of the limelight. Now I'm looking through stuff I can hock on eBay to make some extra money to afford the model I want; thinking of selling my Gameboy Advance SP AGS-101 and my GBA AGB-001, as well as debating if I should dump a few more of my modified Gameboys. Makes sense really, as all sit in a drawer, unused as I have better options than playing on the original hardware, but I feel weirdly emotionally attached to them, so it's hard to even let go the ones that I'm thinking I might.

It's about 7pm and finally have some time to myself today and kind of just want to sit on my butt and zone out.

Yeah my city went to crap when our last mayor and the DA decided it was a good cost saving measure to decriminalize all misdemeanors and low level felonies, then COVID made things even worse. What's scary is this mentality is spreading across the country. Roughly 75% of the major cities here have Democrat Mayors whom are practicing such ways, and getting overwhelmed with crime because of it. There's a smart and savvy black Republican Mayor in Dallas however whom after getting in office, fought against a lot of resistance to bring in more police and get crime under control (which he has) and now the Democrats are starting to agree with him.

I say all that because it seems corporate crime flourishes when civilian crimes are ignored, especially when the feds are busy with things like COVID and now Ukraine and Israel.

Pretty much the same everywhere, regardless of who's in office. In my city we've had Republicans for the last 30+ years and things have similarly descended into chaos.

Lots of theft and break ins, street racing at all hours, red light running, aggressive driving and speeding and on and on. Nothing is being done to address any of these issues as they've been going on for years now.

Think it's really just endemic to a city with a large population, which sucks.
