For tools and discussions around building PCs, you can't beat PCPartPicker.com. As for YouTube channels on PC tech, one of my favorites is probably JayzTwoCents.
Yes thanks, I'd already saved the link to PCPartPicker after you recommended it to another builder, even just as reference it's useful.
Well now some of you are venturing into Pop Culture & Entertainment section more, please add the best PC or Gaming channels to the YT channels thread.
There's so many gaming YT channels out there it's good to reference the better ones.

Looks like one more month, and I'll have the money saved up for my PC build. I found out there is a Microcenter in Cincinnati, and I live an hour and a half away. My wife and son also like going to Trader Joe's there, so I was able to sweet talk her into being excited to go get a hotel room on whatever Friday night we go, and then go to those places on Saturday. I'm pretty stoked. I guess I need to wrap up the stuff I'm still playing on Xbox between now and then.

With PCG, I thought that was just an adjunct to this forum:)

I used to read the New Scientist mag back in the day, and always thought I was ahead of the curve.

And there was something about gloosy magazines, also used to buy, Total PC Gaming and Custom PC. It's interesting looking back at them to see what the latest tech and games were like then.
We had New Scientist, but the one I liked the most as a kid was "Popular Science", which was more on a kid's level, or like People Magazine except for science instead of celebrities.

We had a lot of others, like The Journal of Organic Chemistry, which I didn't bother with.

Never mind Popular Science being my favorite. I just remembered my friend Billy once uncovered a stash of Playboy Magazines buried in plastic bags on the edge of an abandoned cemetery. Those were my favorite. You know, for the short fiction.

Would you not get better deals on some parts online?
You would think so, but Microcenter seems to be pretty awesome. I put a build list together on PCPartPicker, and then did pretty much the same thing on MC's web site, which the parts are in the store's inventory. The part prices, themselves, were comparable to what I was seeing online. But then on top of that, they have bundle deals. One thing I was looking at was the Ryzen 7700, but I could get the 7700x for $23 more, and it was bundled with 32GB of DDR5-6600 RAM for free. So I'd actually be saving significant dollars to get a better CPU, since I need RAM, anyway. Also, if I buy a motherboard that is compatible with a CPU, you get 20% the MB price.

So if you're doing a whole build, and you watch out for the deals, it's possible to even come out ahead of the online prices. I'll be paying in gas to drive 1.5 hours away, but a big part of it is just the experience of going to a huge PC store like that. It's kind of nostalgic and exciting. We used to have a Fry's closer to us, but it's shut down, and I hear MicroCenter is better, anyway. Plus, I figure I'll go and get the deals, and if there is anything I need that I can get significantly cheaper online, I'll do that.

Abandoned, huh? As in, the corpses all left?
No, they are still waiting for the zombie apocalypse.

Someone built 9 or ten apartment buildings, but there was a tiny cemetery there from the 19th century. They just built around it. Just looked like a small patch of trees and brush until you went inside. You could barely make anything out on the stones.

That was my real subject, organic chemistry and I worked in a lab after school. Look at me now lopping the heads off Orcs!

Yeah, my dad has a Ph.d in chemistry and my son is considering following in his footsteps. I wasn't interested. After freshman chemistry and physics, I didn't take anymore science until I was a senior. I just needed 4 hours of anything and took freshman biology because I figured the lab would be fun. I was right. Had I taken biology as a freshman instead of chemistry, I might have gone into biology. I really enjoyed it. But I liked where I ended up anyway, so no big loss.

Physics and chemistry were my main interests. Organic chemistry is fascinating because you understand the complexities of life at that molecular level. I found lab work a bit boring at after school level although I did get to play with some cool tech, mass spectrometers and the like. Then went back and studied to 2nd year degree level.

But I also want to know about everything, the whole. Saw this MASH episode where a man pretended to be a doctor, had taught himseld and was considered good but not qualified. Turned out he chose a new profession every few years, taught himself and basically conned his co workers.

I knew nothing about art, but decided to do that, got degree in that. Good to keep challenging our minds.

It's weird that with porno mags, many lads found a few somewhere in a field or like. It was many lads and maybe girls first encounter, but why were they dumped like that. Probably never know.

Well, these were actually in bags and covered with dirt. I suspect some kid was upset when he came back and they were gone. Or something. Honestly, I don't remember what happened to them. I didn't take any, but my friend might have. My mother was not someone you wanted to have find your Playboys. I used to get beaten for not being able to sleep, for example. Playboys? I probably would have run away.

It is amazing how times have changed in many ways. Weren't Playboys considered higher up market, with articles and stories. Now some youngsters are getting addicted to porn and it has changed the way people view sex.

You've been here a while, what's the deal with all these stupid posts on this forum. It does seem to happen when school days over, but what do they want? Never seen anything like it.

Probably around 99% are bots trying to get to the post limit where they can start putting links in their posts so they can spam whatever they are here to spam.

Although it's great fun putting a build together, the deeper you look and the more reviews, the massive choice, and the variations in prices and possibilities like bundles, etc. I get to a point where I just go for it, because it can get too much. Enjoy:)
Yeah, for sure. Unfortunately for me, I won't have the money saved up that I need for another month. After that, I'll be set to go. I already pretty much know everything I want and need, other than exactly which case I'll go with. So it's really no use building and rebuilding part lists. I may last minute decide to go Intel instead of AMD for my CPU. But if they don't give me all that free RAM and AMD does, that will probably be my deciding factor.

^ But he did make a great film with Bill Murray. They even report his predictions here.

Bill Murray made some really funny movies back in the 1990s, Ground Hog Day & Caddy Shack are probably my two favorites.

Has anyone read The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever? Maybe @mainer ? Maybe anyone?
I've read The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (The Wounded Land, The One Tree, White Gold Wielder), but for some reason I've never read the first trilogy. It's probably been about 20 years since I've read those books, but I remember enjoying them. Which gets me to thinking that maybe I'll try to pick up the first trilogy books used, then read all the books in sequence. Looking for a good fantasy book series, or specifically the 1st Chronicles?

I read the first chronicles but never the 2nd. Am thinking about picking that up. It's been a long time, but I remember his writing as being very poetic. There were few just average sentences. And I loved the characters even though the main character was a huge pain.

But if you want to recommend a good Fantasy series or 3, I'd love to hear it. I haven't read any fantasy in quite awhile. Would be fun to get back into it.

So Microsoft bought OpenAI. When is Cortana going to be as good as Siri? On the phone I had until recently, Siri was mostly useless. On my new phone, she is amazing. She can pretty much do anything I've told her to do so far. And on the drive home from picking up Guido, I asked "Who was the voice actor of the merchant in Resident Evil 4?" and she didn't even hesitate. She had the answer instantly. I was very impressed. So I asked Cortana the same question when I got home, and she has no idea what I want her to do.

Not my genre, but I did enjoy Anne McCaffrey way back when. I preferred her Crystal series to her famous Dragonriders of Pern series.

Big investment for sure. Don't hold your breath on Cortana tho, MS will have much bigger fish to fry first.
