Civ 7 thread

I don't see a new thread about it apart from the pre launch one, so I will start it.

I don't have the game yet but I have been watching others play it.

The two people I normally watch play Civ games both want it to get better than it is currently. One says it needs an expansion or two, which sounds normal to me as the last few didn't get out of gate running either. So it might be something to wait and see on.

I don't like one change that is big enough to stop me playing it. The fact you can't play one civ the entire way through... that was entire point of the last 6 games. I am not going to speculate why they changed it to how it is. Call me a stick in mud but it feels like they might as well have made an entire new game than to change Civ like this.

That bothers me, too, and it wouldn't be completely surprising if they didn't make that an option in the settings at some point.

This made me remember that I never played 4, which was Brian's favorite, so I went to Steam and the Civ 4 Complete Bundle is 80 percent off at $5.99. I'll play that while I wait for fixes to Civ 7

I personally don't dislike the idea of playing different civilizations throughout a game. I wasn't getting past the early industrial age in most games anyway, so anything that makes the mid and late game more interesting is welcome to me.

Even if he was still around you'd have to be patient, as patient as he is, because he'd wait for all of the DLC to be released before buying it.

He might have an opinion even if it we did have to wait for him to catch up to it... Which one was he on now?
Could be another 10 years before he got it. I forgot that aspect... why buy new when you can get everything cheaper later.

Maybe I do the same in his honor.

He wanted that sense that he was playing a complete game, and he didn't feel that way without all the DLC. I completely understand that. But for me personally, I can play a game of Civ without Ethiopia in the game and not feel like I'm missing a whole lot.

There are currently 2x more people playing 5 and appx 7 times more playing 6. There was an article with a guy from 2k saying that Civs always start slow. I guess we'll see.

Watching this reminded me of Windows releases. Its the same story, people hate the new one and say the old is so much better but over time, with patches and updates the story changes and eventually the next version will have to deal with people saying we don't want change, we happy with what we have.

They must have finally fired the person making all the dumb decisions, or they have such bad sales that it was the only way there ever would be a Civ 8

Not sure its going to save it now. Its basically in the state now it should have been at launch... perhaps next expasnsion will add something new.

I actually just bought the Settler's Edition since it's on sale. Installing it now. Against my better judgment, I also got the "Rising Tides" DLC because I'm an Edward Teach fanboy.
