Posting this in March 2025. Sometimes older games offer more value than current ones.
Though the graphics are comparatively crude, a couple games you may get a lot of replay value out
of are:
Sid Meir's Alpha Centauri
Civilization: Call to Power

You're as good with dates as I am.

Even though I'm old, I often struggle trying to play older games. For one thing, I do, actually, like better graphics. That's not important for everyone, but it usually is for me. Another thing is that these games used to come with manuals. Sure, I can look up videos and wikis, and that's probably better than a manual, but I've become used to games that are self-complete and have proper tutorials, tool tips, etc.

I can appreciate someone experiencing "aggro eyestrain factor" of older style graphics. You might find that adjusting graphics settings, both within the game and on your monitor, is helpful.

Modern TVs are relatively cheap. I use a 55 inch TV as my computer monitor and don't have to wear glasses to play games.

Gog dot com sells older games that they have configured to play reliably on contemporary operating systems. The games often include a digital manual as an optional download.

Home of the Underdogs is also a useful place to find content.
