Are you a white knighter or doomsayer for certain games?

Like the title, what game, if any, do you white knight for or doomtalk (always have a negative outlook of) about?

I know some people dont really get involved with the community or "drama" around a game, but if you find yourself defending one more than not what game would that be and why?

So, one game i currently "white knight" for is Helldivers 2. I dont play it much anymore but ill defend that game and its direction and studio even if it has its major problems.

The one game i "doomsay" about is Destiny 2. That game needs to be put out to pasture and servers shutdown. That game is a mere shadow of itself and nothing can save it at this point.

I dont know if i have the right terms, but i see them pop up when people discuss the groups of gamers that defend a game vs those that attack it.

Umm, probably defend Baldur's Gate 3 since it is one of my favorite games of all time, buy can't see myself going super aggressive about it, it's just a game after all.

Doomaying, probably Diablo 4. I mean, I enjoyed parts of it, but I just think the game shows why Blizzard needs to shut down and start with something else. Now, THIS might be something:

Things I white knight for in terms of games would be Valve as a whole and Postal 2. I love everything Valve does, they were a huge part of my early days as a gamer. Half Life 2 was one of the first games that truly opened my eyes to just how amazing games could be as a medium. Steam has helped me find so many great people that I still call my friends over a decade later.

Postal 2 is a genuinely great game and I will not hear any slander about it. The story and writing may not be to everyone's taste, but neither are so many other games with really great gameplay. Postal 2 has such a dedicated community around it that to me it embodies the essence of PC gaming.

As for doomsaying, I really try not to do that unless the writing is on the wall and I know this game is not going to be good. I was telling everyone to avoid The Day Before like it was a brain-eating parasite, then it came out and got delisted very shortly after.

I like to be vocal with my support of a game I really like. I'll engage in comment section discussions, create posts in the Steam discussion pages prior to launch, stuff like that. I don't use Reddit anymore but back when I did I loved being a part of the hype before a game came out. I don't use Discord either so it's harder to be apart of that sort of community around a game but that's fine with me. Though if it turns out it's not as great as I thought it was, I won't try to defend it and will call out developers asking them to fix things players do not like. I won't attack them like some people do though.

If i had to pick a whole company that was a huge part of my early days as a gamer it wouldve been Midway, followed by Sierra. A lot of classic arcade games i loved playing as a kid came from midway and my earliest introduction to PC gaming was Sierra.

I seem to find myself being the Anti. When the White Knight comes in saying how awesome a game is, I'm pointing out the flaws being overlooked. When the Doomsayer shows up, I'm pointing out the fun bits. To wit....

Doomsayer: Spore, because I'm extremely aware of how overhyped it was and disappointment is also a powerful thing.
What?! Spore was fun! Not GREAT and nowhere near the hype level, but still fun. It should be a nice game to throw at new gamers to see what sort of fun they like to have, too. And the musical easter egg, putting the M.U.L.E. theme in the space portion, was awesome!

Spore is 1 decent minigame, 3 mediocre ones and then a mediocre... what do you call the genre where you're spending most of your time traveling between planets/islands/cities and trade or do simple quests? One of those. The most impressive feature, the editor, becomes pretty much entirely obsolete when you reach the space age as well.

You can get some fun out of it, but it wasn't worth paying full price for.
