Approving new members on PCGF?

Heys lads, hope you're all doing well. I've recently joined back up on this forum after a lengthy break.

I'm enjoying 99% of the content, but I noticed one issue I didn't really notice some time back - a infestation of spambots. I love this forum and want more members to stay that actually want to talk about PC games, so I got an idea from TPUF.

When I joined Techpowerup forums, which runs on the same platform as this forum, i had to be approved by a forum moderator so I could start a thread, reply to a post or even choose an avatar. Is there some way to implement this strategy to cull the influx of spammers?

We don't want to have to approve every post.

Not all posts get through, you may notice people asking why they can't post... well, forums just say no to a lot of things at the front door.

You aren't seeing as much spam here now as if you had been here a year ago. There are measures in place, We can't stop everything but we try.

I don't know recent numbers, but last year we were getting 500-1,000 posts a day. No way we could manually deal with such a volume, even if it's considerably less now.

As Colif says, the bouncers at the door are pretty good, and anything which gets thru is caught relatively quickly.

We get about 3000 new users a week, but very few of them seem to post. I assume many of them try.

I understand. Manually approving members and posts would be time consuming. So what I'm seeing on here is just the tip of the iceberg.

Yes. fraction of it. Although they keep trying.
