Hello, this is my first post here and let me start with an apology. I know very, very little about PC gaming but I've been doing some research and watching tons of videos. I'm sure very similar posts have been made but if anything at all is different, I get lost and I'm not sure if the answers are compatible with my issues.

I bought a "new" build last Christmas for my son to game on. I was under the impression that this PC would be cheaper to upgrade in the future instead of buying the latest console every other year. I was also looking forward to better quality gaming for him.

Below is a list of the parts on the listing that I purchased so hopefully you guys can get the gist of what I'm working with. The first month or so Fort.nite seemed to be running very smoothly at 60 FPS but lately its extremely choppy. I noticed the memory with cruising around 80% so I deleted all games off the PC and reinstalled Fort.nite and Rock.et League to a new external SanDisk 2TB SSD.
That did nothing to help the issue and I'd really like him to be able to have more than 2 games downloaded at a time. Anyway, any help is appreciated! After googling each part, I'm starting to think this is an old build that I'd be better off replacing the whole thing instead of parts individually. Knowing nothing about PCs, Id be purchasing from another high rated PC builder off of marketplace and hoping for the best. I'm definitely on a budget and whatever I do will end up another Christmas present this year. Hopefully under the $1000 mark.

That CPU is about 12 years old now so that is one reason most things will run badly. There is no viable upgrade path from it that would really make it better.

That is probably the best idea. I assume from parts used you are in the US

what other games is he likely to play? As that might give an idea as to what parts to show.

I would replace that 1tb hdd with a 2tb ssd if you weren't better off replacing entire thing.

@Why_Me probably has a suggestion for a cheap build that would work way better :)

Wow, Thank you guys for the information. I had a pretty solid feeling I'd be better off starting from scratch which I was hoping to avoid only because I'm clueless. Maybe it time to sit down and watch a few more build videos. I was hoping to find something pre-built but after this ordeal I lost some faith in marketplace sellers. This is not even a year old to me PC with what I knew were budget friendly parts that I could slowly replace.

As far as other games, he's pretty much only into F.ortnite and R.ocket League currently but he's also 10. I'd love the next PC to be able to grow with him. I'm sure first person shooters will also be in the mix for him. I'm an older school nerd and it would be nice to be able to play some open world type games with decent quality picture.

I do have a newer monitor that I bough last year. Its an Acer 27" HD 1920x1080 curved 1500R with 165Hz. It was pretty inexpensive so if I needed to upgrade that too, I wouldn't mind too much. Keyboard and mouse are pretty inexpensive also but had to be RGB of course. Headset is Turtle Beach if I remember correctly.
