What is lumins effect

I have a gtx 1080 in my rig and since satisfactory got update 8 and unreal engine 5 my fps has gone from around 80 fps down to around 45 fps.

A lot of players say to improve fps you turn off global illumination and lumins.

I cant find lumins in the games settings so is it part of the graphics cards settings , i dont use gforce.

Lumen is the name of the baked in Ray Tracing replacement used in UE 5. So it affects the lighting and shadows. Far as I can tell from a quick look Global illumination is the setting that turns Lumen on and off, dont know for sure as I dont have the game.
